Chapter 239: All's Well That Ends

As the cops escorted the now scary faced Devillia out of the court room, she truly exercised her right to remain silent. There were so many questions about her motive since she was the boss who had taken the town under her control. But none were answered.

Even angrier than Mina was Raven. The Aura has stolen his child and kept him mind washed, controlling the city at his command. But again, the answers were few and mostly unknown.

He squawked loudly at Devillia like a furious bird of prey who had its children stolen. But she just smirked with darkness in her eyes.

"Where is Anna?!" he screamed. "Tell me where it is, you witch with a B!"

Devillia just laughed. Her cold empty laughs mocking the poor man. They said it all. "You won't be getting your answers today...if ever."

Raven lunged at Devillia to seize her, but Mina grabbed him. She had never seen a man who always concealed his heart inside his sleeve so tormented. Even Chief O'Law was calmer. "We'll grill her Raven until she's well done. Our child will be found...."

"It's not enough!" Raven cried. "Not after all she's....all they've done!!!"

But Devillia was soon gone and so was his chance at an answer. He was about to slump to his knees, but Mina, his loyal protege, grabbed him tightly. "Please don't give up!" she cried. "You didn't give up on me when I was about to go to jail and neither will I."

Raven gazed up at the ceiling, at the blinding white overhead lights. He closed his eyes as tears streamed down his face. "I just don't know if I can fight anymore. After all they've done to me. To my family. To my mind."

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

Now tears were streaming down Mina's face. To hear a chipper man on the verge of collapse was just too much. But she had to keep fighting. For everyone's sake.

"If you can't..." she said. "Please just rest. I'm gonna devote the rest my law career to this What's left of it...at least."

Raven sobbed even louder, but it only made Mina squeeze him tighter. "Just let me handle things. You're going to be alright..."

"I want to believe..." Raven sobbed.

Even Mina wanted to believe her words. But she had nearly gotten decimated herself. She had gone on a limb and it nearly snapped.

"I will believe for you," she said. "And you can believe this. As long as there's justice in the land...I will see to it that it's brought to you."

The crowd was wordless. As were Mina's friends, the judge and the heartless prosecutor. There has been a victory today. A captive man had been freed from his mental prison. But even unbound from the chains, his trauma remained.

The police chief, a hardened woman of the law, stood by her ex husband. For the longest time, she had berated him, but now Mina knew it also came from a place of pain.

She placed her large hands on Raven's shoulders. "Come..." she said, managing a smile from her normally full slotoxed lips. "We'll get you cleaned up and out of these ratty bed clothes. A man as handsome as you doesn't fit them at all."

Raven opened his eyes. His ex wife, someone who had only offered him the cold shoulder now had the warmest look in her eyes. "Thank you..." he said. "To you, Rita...and you, Mina. You are the best support a guy like me could have in his life."

"Let's get you showered," Rita O'Law said. "That devil has you stinking of the worst aftershave I could imagine. Something my Raven would never wear in a million years."

"Your... Raven..." the birdlike man squawked. A different side of the chief had finally emerged. Someone that had laid dormant for years.

Bewildered, Raven was led away and Mina wiped the tears from her eyes. "He's going to be okay..." she told herself. "He's the strongest man I know."

The old judge placed her hand on Mina's shoulder. Mina turned around and remembered. The jury had deliberated on her sentence. Now she was finally about to hear if she was a free woman.

She hoped for her sake, her friends and Raven's that she was.
