In spite of his late thirties handsomeness, Himbolake looked more like a sinister snake as he chuckled to himself. Now, Mina had to face up to the fact that the dreamy idol of her childhood was nothing more but a cunning, murderous and petty killer.
"You..." Mina said. "Did you really kill Whitney over his biography?"
Himbolake squinted one eye and let the other one bulge out. "Did I? You really think you're gonna get a confession out of me? I'm the No Stick Frying Man and any dirt anyone throws will not tarnish my image. Even yours, slick!"
Mina gritted her teeth. He was so right. No evidence she had could stick to him. Like a cornered animal, she started to back away from the wicked hunk. As she did, it almost felt like something snapped in her brain.
Ever since Chad Hangten was murdered, she believed she could fight for justice. And not only that, she thought she could be on the right side of justice every time. After all, Victoria Electra and Monty Banks were not such likeable or personable people, in fact, they were total jerks from the jerk department, but she had followed through on them and was awarded a fair verdict. They had been wrongly accused and she had defended them to prove they were rightfully innocent.
This was quite the opposite. Her knees wobbled and the room spun around her. She felt she'd drop to the ground but she wanted to stand it instead. "I...what if I..." she said softly. "refuse to defend you..."
Himbolake's smug smile spread across his face like a serpent.
She took a deep breath and confidently thrust a finger straight at Dustin's well toned chest. "No way in Smell am I gonna defend you. You're a dirty, slimy, double crossing crook who eats girls' hearts like breakfast cereal. You incriminated Penny and murdered Whitney and I firmly believe that!"
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Dustin let a sick giggle that sounded like a snickering rat. "Ch ch ch..." he said with his hands to his face. "You can firmly believe anything you want, but you are still my attorney and there's no backing out...unless..."
"U-u-u-unless what..." Mina stammered, realizing that he still has the upper hand somehow.
Himbolake displayed a row of sharp teeth cut like diamonds. "Let's just say that my bodyguard Knives Chives might have paid someone a little visit. Get it? Because he's short."
More rat snickers followed as he held his hand to his mouth like Dr. Maniacal from the comedic spy movie, Houston Powers.
"Enough with the jokes..." Mina said. "Who did he visit..."
"Someone very important to you..." Dustin smirked.
Mina's stomach dropped into a dark abyss. There were quite a few important people in her life. Her parents, her friends...Blind!
Mina looked around nervously. She started to stumble on her heels. "If you did something to someone I care about...I'll...tell..."
Himbolake gave a deep belly lap patting his six pack of abs. "Sure...tell someone and...let's just say that justice will not prevail..."
Himbolake was such a smooth talker that he made sure to not make any confessions but now Mina knew that her William Justice was involved from his punnery. She stepped back so far she whacked her head on the door of the detention center.
Himbolake waved coyly to her. "See you in court tomorrow, baby girl. Better bring your A-Game for me!"
Mina spun around and seized the door. She escaped into the hallway panting like she had run a marathon. She was crying at the same time. She had no idea what Himbolake did to her boyfriend but she couldn't just sit idly by.
But even before she could dial his number on her E-Phone, Ninja Kitty's familiar chiptune played its Japanese video game theme. A handsome avatar of Blind appeared on the screen. He was calling her.
"Please be okay!" Mina gasped through tears. "Oh please!"
She picked it up and answered. "Willy?!!! Where are you?! Are you okay?!"
Blind immediately answered, his voice surprisingly cool and calm, if sounding extremely serious. "Mina. I am. But I have awful news. I can't even believe this has happened!"
"Oh thank Dog you're okay!" Mina sighed, temporarily forgetting that he had mentioned bad news.
"I'm okay..." Blind said. "But Divine. My grandmother. She's disappeared. I think she's been kidnapped!"
