When Mina stepped into the courtroom, accompanied by Monty and Georgia, she hardly expected the reaction she received. She soon realized it was inevitable with the wretched stigma her client possessed.
Having been on the right side of justice for her last few cases, Mina had gained support from the televised audience in the court room, but this time, she was greeted with an enormous amount of disdain.
Everyone from parents to college students to elderly folks all glared at her. A particularly dowdy group of girls wearing pink and white shirts reading "Justice 4 Greta" scowled like a collective of librarians in a noisy library.
A little girl with a tiny pair of brown pigtails grasped her mom's hand and spoke the room's conscience. "Mommy? Why's she defending Mr. Bad Boom Boom Man?!"
Mina's cheeks burned a busy red, and Monty tried his hardest to refuse the situations.
"Listen kid," he lisped. "I don't know what you've heard but if you're good and don't commit libel..."
Monty reached into the back pocket of his trousers and thrusted a half eaten, melted chocolate bar into the air. "I'll give you some candy!"
Mina heard a caustic scoff across the room; it could only belong to a particularly smug prosecutor. "Rookie, I know your client is highly suspect, but offering candy to children is a new low."
The little girl hid behind her mother but pointed at him with scorn. "Plus, he already ate it!"
Monty chuckled nervously. "Hey, I got a low blood sugar kid. If you get to my age you'll learn how truly scary diabetes is!"
The girl screamed and Mina took a deep breath. It was only going to get worse from here.

As they walked down the aisles, she repeated to herself. "Just keep going. Look straight ahead."
Nearly reaching the stand, Mina jumped when she heard a familiar squawk. "Heya sport. Good luck out there!"
She turned her head to see Raven standing with police chief O'Law. "I already seem to be having miserable luck," she muttered. "I have no evidence whatsoever."
Raven winked at her. "Just do as we rehearsed."
"But we didn't rehearse!" Mina shouted back.
"Exactly!" Raven said, grinning and thumbing her up. "Do what I do and just wing it and look for an opening. There always is...no matter how impenetrable the wall of evidence is!"
Mina nodded slowly, offering an uneasy smile. It was her mentor's tried and true method, but she had never done it before. She loved being prepared, but this time she had nothing but a brooch to prove her client innocent. She proceeded to the bench with Monty and Georgia and the grouchy judge whacked her mallet.
"Court is now in session! Justice Divine Justice decreed from her seat. "Hey Attorney Hawkins! Pick your heqd up!" Mina jerked her head up, feeling quite tired in spite of her caffeinated veins. Divine looked well rested and lively, her brown eyes shining passionately from behind her spectacles at Mina. In fact, the judge's vitality made Mina feel even more like a zombie.
The judge duly announced the case at hand:
"Ms. Joy Lester and the Estate of Greta Good are thankfully suing the pants off the current mayor Monty Banks! Luckily my grandson is on the task! Take it away, Willy!"
Wincing over his nickname, Blind took the opposing stand. "That's enough Grandma, I mean... Thank you, your honor. My client, Ms. Lester has accused Mr. Banks of blowing away the political competition...literally. Fortunately, I have assembled something that will be a"--Blind raised his finger to his head and smirked callously. "A two hit kill shot for this case."
"A t-t-two hit kill shot?" Mina stammered.
"Yes, rookie," Blind said pointing his finger straight at Mina. "I will end this case in two witnesses. One to provide the motive and one to provide the damning evidence. By the time, I'm finished, the jury will have no other alternative than to declare a guilty verdict!"
A bead of sweat trickled down the back of Mina's neck. She shuddered.
"Blind is looking extra confident...and sexy...today," she muttered.
She turned to Raven in the audience and nodded to herself. "I'm just gonna have to find an opening in this impenetrable wall of evidence!"
