Chapter 50: What a Dreamhouse Doll

Chapter 50: What a Dreamhouse Doll

Toppling the trash can, Mina tumbled out of it, now reeking of two day old shrimp tails and rotting escargot. "Geez Louise," Mina muttered, feeling slightly dazed as she brushed off rancid cocktail sauce from her pink business suit. "For a restaurant that serves snails, Les Schargo's sure gets around to all these big events."

Mina's mentor seized the young attorney by her bony shoulders and hoisted her to her feet. "No time to stop and smell the mollusks!" Raven shouted. "That evil butler is getting away, kiddo!"

Mina brushed off the remaining appetizers off her outfit. "Right!" she said with a sudden clarity in her eyes. "We have to catch him. Giles D. Butler is the only lead we have!"

The two defense attorneys sprinted after the surprisingly spry old man until he pushed his way through a swinging pair of doors into the backlot.

"Brace yourself, sport," Raven hollered as he pushed his way through the doors. "Who knows what kind of film set we'll end up on!"

Mina's eyes glistened as she ran through the doors. "Lets just hope we don't end up in a Wild West shootout or...oh my lawdy!"

She stopped frozen in her tracks. They had found themselves in a plastic neighborhood of crystalize pools, cobblestone patios and two story suburban villas.

"What is this place...?" Mina stammered, but she excitedly balled up her fists. "But I have a vague but pleasant feeling that a core childhood memory is about to be unlocked!"

Dashing further through the suspicious streets, Mina found they were all lined with neatly trimmed hedges and pink convertibles. "Wowie zowie!" she exclaimed. "Whoever lives here has my fashion sense of maximum pink perfection!"

"Did you say maximum pink perfection, lady?!"

A boyish voice called from behind them. And when Mina turned around, her eyes nearly popped.

A white blond haired hunk in his late thirties approached them. Toned, tanned, handsome and wearing a brightly colored, barely buttoned up Hawaiian shirt, he resembled the kind of dreamboat Len doll Mina would have played with as a girl. She nearly fainted. "R-Robert G-Gander?! Is that you?"

"None other!" the man said, flexing his pecs beneath his barely buttoned shirt.

"Eeeeeeee!" Raven shrieked with his hands to his cheeks, causing Mina and Robert to recoil in shock.

They stared confused at him. "What?" Raven snapped, his tanned skin flushing crimson. "Even I can't resist the cover star of Handsome Himbos monthly!"

Mina faced Gander, her pasty face a rosy shade of red too. "Please ignore my friend and his ambiguous sexuality! We're trying to find a suspicious butler dressed like a swedish janitor!"

"An odd request," Robert Gander remarked, but he gave a charming grin. "But this is Gollywood, by golly, everyone is wearing a strange costume and being something they're not!"

"Did you see him?" Raven and Mina both asked him.

"Of course," Gander chuckled. "He headed straight into the Malibu Harley Dreamhouse!"

Mina waggled her thick eyebrows and gave him a wink. "Thank you, my sweet boy toy. You are such a doll!"

Gander chuckled. "That's my casting, sweetums!"

Mina's sighed and held her hands to her chest before a thought entered her mind. "Before we go...can I...have your autograph?"

"Uh sure..." Gander responded and he whipped out a pen from between his pectoral muscles. "Do you have a paper on you? I couldn't fit that in there too."

Mina fumbled through her Ninja Kitty purse. "Crap, I don't. Though I do have this..." She removed a dark green fruit from her purse. "Trudy gave me this kumquat for extra vitamin c!"

"Sure," Gander said, rolling his eyes.

Mina handed him the kumquat. "And be sure to sign it to Mina Hawkins, your forever dream girl!"

As the famous actor scrawled on the fruit, Mina giggled mischievous. "And they say 'blonds have more fun'. Not in this case!"

"Okay," Raven muttered. "Now that we got that over with...after him?"

"After him!" Mina screamed. She took off running, but before Raven left, he took out his lawyer card and slipped it between Robert Gander's pecs. "That number doubles as my home phone in case you want to make a dreamhouse call, Mr. Boy Toy."

Mina seized Raven's hand and yanked him away. Together, they ran to an enormous house that stood at the center of the set. As plastic and pink as an early 2000s starlet, it was their final frontier. There was no way Giles could escape them now.
