Time passed. The afternoon came and went. Sparky brought catering for everyone including big sub sandwiches from Salvador's Deli. Mina wasn't hungry and she most certainly didn't laugh when the chief accused Sparky of being a bigger sub than the sandwiches themselves.
She was just full of one thing: worry. Both for Divine and her standing with Blind. He still hadn't returned to her. She just crossed her fingers, her legs and attempted to cross the toes in her heels. It would be all right. At last, at exactly 5 pm, she was ready to just throw in the proverbial towel and find Blind, wherever he was. Before she could stand up, her handsome boyfriend appeared in the lobby.
Apparently, she wasn't the only person with things crossed, he had his arms crossed and a rather cross expression on his face.
"Hawkins..." he said, not even using her first name or a sweet pet name. "Come here."
His eyes were blindfolded, but a scowl was quite visible.
"EEP..." Mina squeaked, shuffling to her feet. "Somebody bring the butter because I'm toast."
She slowly inched her way to her boyfriend who she was desperately afraid would become her ex.
She approached him, a bashful look on her face with her hand behind her head.
At once, Blind was curt and merciless like the prosecutor he once was. "Why didn't you tell me that debased scum kidnapped my grandmother? I thought we weren't going to keep secrets from each other?! Least of all, ones that involve life and death."
Mina gazed down at her heels, both pointing towards each other, rather than Blind. "Nothing I say can show you how sorry I am for doing that," she said, feeling dejected. "Maybe I truly don't deserve to be called Mina, or sweetheart or Mi-Mi by you."

Blind wrinkled his nose. "Mi-Mi?"
"Yeah," the young attorney said. "Thought it would be cute. But now's not the time for cuteness. Its time for the ugly truth. The reason I didn't tell you who kidnapped your grandmother was because that rotten pop-star told me he would kill her if I didn't defend him in court."
Blind nodded. "Ok..." he said, followed by a dead silence that sucked all the warmth out of the room.
"Ok..." Mina said, as tears trickled down her face. "That's all you can say? I tried so hard to protect your grandmother from having her kneecaps broken by a washed up has-been. Why isnt that enough for you Willy?"
She began to sob, sniffle and gulp, her face a mess of melting makeup and mascara. She wanted to run away away from this courthouse and never came back. Not only did she defend a jerk in court, but a jerk out of court too.
Suddenly, she felt a pair of strong arms on her shoulders. She looked up as chocolate fingers brushed her long brunette locks out of her eyes. Weirdly enough, there was a gentle smile on Blind's handsome face. "No..." he said. "I mean, ok! My grandma said as much too!"
The gold plated doors to the lobby opened and Mina wiped the blurry tears out of her eyes to witness a spectacle. Divine Justice was standing in the door, her bronze skin looking as radiant as ever. She looked a little tired, but there was a happy expression on her surprisingly creaseless face. She spoke with the chief, who still had Sparky at her side.
"Oh my lawdy!!!" Mina exclaimed. "Your grandma was saved!"
"In the nick of time!" Blind grinned. "And she told me exactly that: The 'witless bubble head of an attorney was crusading on my behalf the whole time'!"
"WOWIE ZOWIE!" Mina exclaimed to the heavens. "And your grandma crusaded for me too! I didn't know she liked me that much."
Blind pulled his girlfriend close to him and squeezed her body tight. "She'd be gone without you, Mi-Mi! And for that, I can not only forgive you, but just say, an important member of my family likes you now. That's gonna be quite beneficial when we reach the next stage in our relation!"
"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!" Mina exclaimed, bouncing up and down. "Not only did you call me that pet name, you implied marriage in the future!!!!"
Her eyes rolled back. "Somebody pinch me. I feel faint---Ow!"
She regained semi-consciousness to feel her boyfriend pinch her from behind--right where it counted. She playfully punched him. The worst trial in the world had ended up being the best. And she may have lost the trial, but there was Justice indeed.
