Standing on the opposite side of the courtroom, Mina and Blind had just announced to Divine about their sudden change of plans. Mina would be the prosecutor for the president's case, and that fact alone led the entire courtroom to burst into a hubbub.
Just about everyone from townsfolk to millionaire out of towners had gathered and many were baffled that the girl they had unfortunately monikered "Himbo's Bimbo" had given up her defense ambitions.
Now she would be going on the attack!
Surprisingly, Mina did not feel ashamed or bashful about her new position. Everyone has turned their back on her as the perky Birdbrained defense attorney, and now, she would be upholding the law rather than defending the unjustly (or justly) accused.
"Correction!" she bellowed in a deep voice, mimicking her boyfriend.
She lifted her hand and worked at the dumbfounded Blind. "How was that too-cool-for-you tone?!" she giggled at him. "I did learn from the best after all!"
Blind smirked and shook his head. "Yes babe, theatrics are a big part of being a prosecutor. We tend to be the most dramatic ones in the room with our condemnations, but you also must remember your wits. You never know when some crafty defense attorney is going to throw at you. Let alone Unlucky Sev..."
The door to the courtroom slammed open. Mina beheld, beside the odious Maxine Electra, the stringiest, weediest, lankiest man she had ever seen. He was dressed in an all-black all- leather trenchcoat which swung as he walked and if not for his mop of shadowy dark locks, he'd resemble the internet urban legend, Skinny Man.
It wasn't often that someone stole the scene from the fashion forward Maxine, but this man clearly could with his gaping black hole of fashion. He wasn't even as much a man as a void dweller.

"Severus Silverman..." Mina squeaked in fear as the sliver of a man walked to the center of the room.
He turned his head. "You're the replacement for Ashley?" he snorted in a gutteral voice. "You clearly lack everything she had. The crimson orange mane, those sparkling emerald eyes, and most importantly, her brains."
Mina held her hand to her mouth. "That's rude? How can you tell my brain size?"
"Because," Silverman said, his eyes like shadowy slits behind his bangs. "I spot a booger on your lapel. You're just some nose picking child compared to the great and mighty Ashley Ryan."
Mina's mouth hung open and her eyes bulged. She was used to people in this courtroom throwing shade at her, but bringing her down, just to praise Ashley?!
That was brand-spanking new.
As Sev strolled slowly to his seat, Mina turned to Blind. "Uhm...why does he like Ashley so much?"
Blind tilted his head and leaned back against the window sill. "You probably wouldn't believe me. But this man had an insatiable crush on Ashley when we were all at Yarhard. Like he was a mouth breathing drooling obsessive. But our families had already decided we'd be together, and even though Ashley turned out to like me even less than Sev. She never gave him the time of day either."
Mina rolled her eyes and screwed them up. She raised her hands at odd angles like Skinny Man. "I wouldn't give him the time of night either. He's a freakasaurus rex!"
"I heard that!" Sev responded across the room. "And I'm going to warn you, m'loser. It's always the quiet ones..."
"The quiet ones what?" Mina teased back. "You're clearly talking now."
The man hissed like a serpent in a suit. She knew full well that irritating him would only make him despise her more, but she couldn't help it. He was just a pathetically sorry Ashley simp.
Justice Divine Justice looked like she was over the case before it began. "Something tells me," the chocolate skinned judge said in her raspy voice. "This case is going to be a migraine and a half and I'm all out of Hadvil."
She slammed the gavel hard. "Are both sides ready?"
Mina stood proudly and thrust her finger out. "Ready your honor..."
The justice turned to Sev. Sev stood silently behind the podium. He gave a nod.
"Well then," Justice Divine announced. "Without further ado, let the case of Louse V. Electra begin."
