Mina immediately recognized the young man on the stand as Tim Justin, the newscaster from Ear Hearing News on Channel 10. He was a handsome, upcoming reporter, though even his looks didn't compare to the tall, dark and legally blind, William Justice.
The judge was stupefied as the young man gave a news report on the stand. He pushed back his spiky hair and mugged for the camera. "This following case in the Lawson courthouse is a scoop in the making. And I, Tim Justin, will fulfill my court duty while reporting on it!"
"I've been featured on plenty of court TV," Divine Justice remarked. "But I've never seen someone give a live news report as they are testifying!"
"Hey," Justin answered, pointing at the judge. "I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone, and besides, in this economy I can't afford a day off!"
"Very well," Divine answered. "But this pooper scoop better not get in the way of justice!"
"Relax!" Tim grinned and gestured to the courtroom audience. "My cameraman has disguised himself as part of the audience so you won't even know he's there!"
Tim pointed to a man with an enormous blond pompadour. Upon close inspection there was a camera sticking out.
"He may not be able to match my special spikes," Tim said, massaging his own hair. "But you won't even believe the angles he gets with that hairdo!"
"Anyway," Blind remarked. "All of this is beside the point, Mr. Justin. Care to tell us where you were a couple nights ago!"
Tim Justin raised his microphone high in the air. "I was reporting on the SCOOP OF THE CENTURY!"
"Ah yes," Blind said, smirking and causing his rival defense attorney to gulp. "Care to fill us in on this so called scoop? Perhaps to add a tasty scoop to my delicious ice cream sundae of flawless victory!"
"Tune in to Channel 11 at 7:30 PM Western Standard Time!" Tim said with a gallant grin. He was met with a hostile grimace from Blind and added, "Sorry, that's a bad tic of mine. No...what happened last night was the biggest boom in a very slow news week! Famed politician Greta Goode was murdered in Gollywood!"
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
"Oh we already know that," Blind smirked. "But where were you?"
Tim stood proudly. "I got the biggest boost of my career because I was the one reporting on it!"
"Hold it!" Mina exclaimed, trying to stall for time. "Did you say that this news boosted your career?!"
"Why yes," Tim grinned. "My handsome face is on everyone's screen nowadays!"
"Your honor!" Mina said, trying to get the judges attention. "Is it possible that Mr. Justin has something to do with this murder! It did boost his career after all!"
People gasped in the audience. Even the pompadoured camera man clutched at his pearls and uttered "my word!"
"Objection!" Blind shouted pointing directly at Mina. "As much as I respect Miss Hawkins outside this building, I have to admit that's the most cockamamie argument I've ever heard!"
"Why?!" Mina shot back.
"Because..." Blind said, clapping his hands.
A large projector screen lowered down from the ceiling, resembling one from Mina's college at the Lawson Legal Institute. "Because..." Blind answered. "His alibi is more obvious than your love for wasting time. He was reporting on the very crime as it took place!"
Blind gestured to the screen. "I have been told the contents of the video and even a man with my lack of vision, can tell you how Monty Banks is perpetrated the case!"
He snapped his fingers and Justin's recording of Greta's limo driving by appeared on the screen in slow motion. "An associate reviewed the footage and told me," Blind answered. "That at precisely four minutes and twenty seconds, there is a visible bomb on the side of her limousine."
Mina watched in horror as the video moved frame by frame until a small box attached to the car was clearly visible, even in the dark of night. Blind chuckled, a bit more sadistic than usual. "Miss Hawkins," he said, hands on his hips. "Care to read the name of the bomb?"
Mina hesitated. The case would be over if she read, "Boomsday 3000.," the accursed bomb found in Monty's mansion.
She looked helplessly towards Monty and Georgia. Both had absolute worry and horror plastered on their faces. She then looked to Raven. The avuncular birdlike man merely smiled and looked towards the screen. He wiggled his eyebrows.
Mina looked back, her eyes scanned the footage further. Suddenly, something in the upper right hand corner caught her eye.
"Objection, your honor!" Mina shouted and did a happy dance on her stand.
"Why are you so giddy?" Blind answered, looking a tad worried.
"Because..." Mina said, grinning from ear to ear. "Direct your attention to the upper right hand corner of the screen! Giles D Butler is in the crowd...and he's got a detonator remote!"
