Chapter 57: Ain't She a Peach?

Chapter 57: Ain't She a Peach?

Even the normally sharp justice was stunned. "Excuse me, grandson," Divine asked as she adjusted her spectacles. "But did you really just let this rookie uncover the murderer in this case!"

"Yes-indeedy!" Mina exclaimed, giddily dancing on the spot. "I was looking for my opening and by golly I've found it!"

There was an grumpy scowl on Blind's face, but he remained silent. "Rookie, care to tell us who this person is?" He asked calmly

"Giles D. Butler," Mina said proudly. "Like, the worst alias name ever. He may as well call himself Giles D. Killer, which is basically what he is!"

"No..." Blind said sternly. "Who is this man...and what does he do for a living."

Mina put her hands on her hips. "A butler by day...an assassin by night."

"Yes..." Blind said, a smirk curling up on his face. "But who does he work for..."

"That's an easy one!" Mina said, before her eyes nearly bulged out of her head.

"What's wrong, rookie?" The prosecutor asked. "Ninja Kitty got your tongue?!"

A bead of sweat glistened on Mina's forehead. "Ugh...even his pop culture references are on point," she murmured.

The judge glared with hostility at Mina. "Are you going to finish your sentence, Miss Attorney? We honestly don't have all day. Unlike you, we all ain't spring chickens!"

"Monty Banks!" Mina shouted before cringing from her words. "He is the butler of Monty Banks."

"Who's side are you on!" Monty said, so furious he whacked his hand on the table.

"So isn't it obvious then!" Blind said. "Mr. Banks employed his butler to do his dirty work for him. It may be servant profiling, but I am quite sure that in this case, the butler did do it!"

Divine Justice practically glowed with happiness. "I knew that child couldn't get one over on you, Grandson. This very well could be case closed here..."

Mina's knees trembled from behind her stand. She had an amazing winning streak in this courtroom, but it truly seemed her luck had run out.

The judge looked around. "Well well, if there's no further objections I..."

Mina looked behind her. There was only one last bullet in her revolver of justice. "I have one last witness!" she cried.

"Who?" The justice asked before Mina pointed a trembling hand towards Georgia Peach.

"This young woman was with Monty Banks the night that Greta was assassinated. Clearly, she can tell us if he really ordered her killing! Giles could be an independent actor!"

The judge raised her eyebrows incredulously. Even Mina knew it was a long shot and that Georgia Peach was a total wild card. She hadn't even really collaborated a decent alibi with the dim belle.

"Very well," the justice said. "But these are the last words I will hear on the matter. You are truly grasping at straw in the Georgia haystack!"

"Yay!" Mina exclaimed to the heavens before covering her mouth with a squeak. "I mean thank you, your honor!"

As Georgia walked to the witness stand, there was a vacant smile on her face.

"Okey-dokey!" Mina said with a smile. "Miss Georgia. Care to tell us who you are?"

"Ma name," Georgia began and she read her sash. "Is Miz Georgia Peach and I was voted finest peaches in the state three years runnin'!"

"I can testify to that!" Monty Banks shouted with a leery look on his face.

"Order!" the judge shouted. "Keep it in your geriatric pants, Mr. Banks. Now care to tell us who you are in relation to the suspect? I sure hope you aren't his daughter."

Georgia giggled nervously. "Daughter? Why I neva. I may call him my daddy but we ain't blood related..."

"I think I'm gonna be sick!" Mina exclaimed, turning green.

Blind chuckled to himself. "This is why I'm a prosecutor, Hawkins. Being a defense attorney is too dirty a job even for me."

"Er umm..." Mina said, turning a flushed shade of red after her green hue. "Care to tell us, Miss Georgia, what you did with Monty Banks on the night of Greta's murder?!"

Georgia positioned her eyes skyward. It was a look of innocence, for something that was not innocent at all. "Hoo boy! What didn't we do..."
