Chapter 129: A Trial of Karma

Mina was so elated and lovestruck from her night with her sweet William, she practically skipped into the police precinct like she was running threw a row of red poppies. On heels, that was quite a feat, but she managed it... until she skipped into her sworn adversary.

CRASH!

Mina and her least favorite prosecutor rival, Ashley Ryan both toppled to the floor with the court papers of the latter fluttering to the floor. Mina stared stupidly into space after colliding headfirst with Ashley, but a white glove with sharp fingertips snapped right in her face....snapping her dazed mind right to attention.

"Ughhhhh!" Ashley complained. "Are you blinder than my ex?! What are you doing?"

Mina's eyes were able to focus and she narrowed them with a sly smirk. "What am doing? Other than your ex fiance!"

Mina admittedly realized it was the pettiest thing to say. And cattier than the cat-gloves and attitude Ashley possessed. But she couldn't help it. Ashley had been nothing but mean to her and Blind for the pettiest reasons.

She expected Ashley to scream and make a bigger scene than a soap opera like LeGrassi, but instead she merely gathered her papers and calmly said. "He obviously is blind if he's dating you!"

"Ohhhhhhh snap!" a pair of male cops said as they walked in with a box of Lunkin' Donuts.

They indeed were creating quite a scene, and Mina admitted she was this close to slapping Ashley silly. Instead, she collected herself and remembered D. Vito's wise words of water off a duck's back. Fitting her heels on, she asked a reasonable question instead.

"Are you really holding this catty grudge because Blind copied one answer off your test? I mean come on, you're still the top prosecutor in this town now! That shouldn't matter... now, at least."

Much to Mina's surprise, Ashley snorted from her snooty upturned nose. "He told you that, huh? Wow, he's not just blind literally, he's blind to emotions."

Mina was silent. Her response made no sense. Was the test a major source of emotion for her? Or was she referring to something else?

But Ashley had gathered her papers and dusted herself off. As she stood up, she looked down on Mina who was still on the floor. "Listen..." she declared. "One day, you and Blind are gonna get yours. Maybe not in a court of law, but in the court of karma! Karma is the ultimate judge in this life and she will make sure that you will pay."

Before Mina could utter another word, the prissy prosecutor stomped away out of the precinct. Rather than enrage Mina, she was left to wonder about Ashley's words. There was more to Ashley than being a jaded ex it seemed. But she couldn't focus on that now. She had to determine the aura of her client.

The two cops helped her up and one of them chuckled. "Thanks for the literal catfight!" One of them chuckled, "I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see one."

The other cop laughed. "And that meant she didn't get to scratch us either!"

The first cop took his truncheon and speared a strawberry donut on it. He handed it to Mina. "Donut?"

Mina grabbed the donut. She liked strawberry donuts as they were as pink as her lawyer outfit. "Thanks," she answered. "I'm gonna need all the carbs I can get to power through this case."

She headed down the hallway to Dustin's holding cell, munching on the donut. It was time for a heart to heart with a heart throb. "There's so much I donut know," she said to herself.
