Chapter 135: Now She Has A Secret Too

Mina was shocked into silence by Blind's words.

Justice Divine Justice was the one person she hadn't betted on being kidnapped by Dustin and his tiny hitman. But it made complete sense to her...even if it was a bit daring and bold to kidnap one of the top sitting judges in California.

"Mina..." Blind said, taken aback from her silence. "Are you okay? I know this is horrible news... I don't blame you for not knowing what to say."

"Yes, yes, yes mhm yes!" Mina said, spewing her words in a frantic outburst. "I can't believe your grandmother was kidnapped!"

She held the phone away from her face to scowl at her own lie. Blind quickly responded to her.

"I know my grandmother was very stern to you in the courtroom, but she was just starting to warm up to our relationship."

"I know..." Mina said, straining to get the words out. The Justice had indeed started being a bit more lenient and a bit less sassy to her. It was a small but appreciable amount of tolerance...and now that could easily be cut short. "I really hope she is okay! Where are you Willy?"

"I'm at the Crafted Arts museum downtown," Blind answered. "Still overseeing the whole Maria Santiago art theft. But after hearing about my grandmother, I think it's best to put my grandmother's life over a couple of splotches of paint on a canvas! I'll be right over!"

"Please be safe..." Mina said, her hair standing on edge.

"I will be, dear," Blind answered. "I'm taking this right to Chief O'Law and I'm sure we can use your attorney expertise too!"

Mina nodded again, feeling like there were a bunch of marbles lodged in her throat. "Mhmm... I'll do my best, Willy."

"I will see you soon and then we'll talk about the future," Blind said and the receiver clicked off.

Mina slumped to her knees, her hands deep in prayer. Not to dog but to God or whoever was up in the sky he'd make it there safe. She didn't want Blind to be kidnapped too.

How could she even break the news who was behind the kidnapping? Dustin Himbolake has insinuated that Justice would not prevail if she did and that cryptic pun made total sense now.

"If I tell someone about Dustin..." Mina said to herself. "Divine is gonna get it."

Mina sat in the police lobby, reclining in a bench and shivering from the dark news. The two police officers offered more of their leftover donuts to her but extra sugar wouldn't help when she felt like she had been kicked in the stomach. She still politely played it off like she was watching her figure, but in truth, she'd gladly gain a hundred pounds if it meant the safe return of Divine. Her head played the scenario over and over of what Himbolake said, but there was no way she could defeat him. Divine was a hostage and Knives Chives was mostly likely ordered to kill her upon discovery if he wasn't walking free. And even if Dustin got off, he never said he wasn't gonna kill her anyway.

Mina remembered when Blind had kept a secret from her: that he resigned from his role as top prosecutor so he could learn the identity of the individual who blinded him. She felt so left out because she loved being personally invested in every part of his life. It was understandable but she still felt a bit jilted.

This was worse though. She knew the identity of Divine's kidnapper, but she couldn't tell him personally. She was sitting on a deadly secret and she resolved to just use her best attorney skills to allow Dustin off the case scot free.

As the sliding doors opened and Blind stepped inside the precinct, Mina immediately stood up and hugged him so hard.

"Are you okay...love?" Blind asked. "You're shaking. "

"Yesps!" Mina practically lisped from fear. "Everything's fine. I'm gonna make sure that your grandmother makes it back to us safe and sound."

Blind eased back into his hug with her. "I know you don't have much competition, but you are the best girlfriend ever. I couldn't ask for anyone more devoted than you..."

"Thank...you..." Mina squeaked as tears ran down her cheeks. "I'm gonna fight for justice until the very end."
