Ashley Ryan, The Esteemed Graduate From Yarhard

Ashley Ryan, The Esteemed Graduate From Yarhard

Finally pulled away from the suffocating crowd of people, Mina could finally get a good look at the girl who claimed to be Blind's ex fiancee.

Her face, was lightly freckled with a pair of emerald eyes and a green dress to match. A bushy pile of orange hair extended from her head like a lion's mane. She had a sort of pinched face that made her look conceited even if it was merely just her face. Soon, Mina realized it wasn't just her face.

The girl extended her hand for a hand shake. "Ashley Ryan, esteemed graduate of Yarhard University. I take it you're a lawyer?"

"Yes," Mina nodded. "I went to Lawson."

Ashley twirled her nose in the air and removed her hand. "Ah community law college. Well, it's better than going to Ding-Ling Bros Clown College, I guess."

Mina's face flushed bright red. "What the huh? I worked really hard to get into Lawson. My mom wanted me to go to college to be a hairdresser but then..."

Ashley chortled and fluffed her hair. "Never too late for that. I could use a new perm soon and you could be my perm-anent hairdresser!"

Ashley laughed at her own joke, and then tilted her head with a sadistic smile. "Anyway, sister, just came to warn you that Blind is probably the least dateable person on Earth. If I had known ahead of time about him, I would have invested my time in self-care instead."

"What's wrong with him?!" Mina exclaimed. "He was nothing but a gentleman when he took me out on a date. He even complimented my dress and he can't even see!"

"That's not the only thing he can't see," Ashley muttered, beneath her breath.

Mina grimaced at this snooty lion-like girl. She hoped the party was the last place she'd come across someone so full of themselves, she wouldn't even need to eat at the buffet.

"Well then," Ashley said, rolling her eyes with a smirk. "If you really must know...William is..."

"Mina," a debonair and concerned voice called from the crowd. "Stop wasting your time with that snob...."

"Blind!" Mina turned around, and smiled, seeing her date from a few months ago standing behind her.

"William..." Ashley snarled. "I'm surprised you managed to find your way to us."

Blind shook his head. "I could smell your snobbery a mile away, Ms. Ryan. Stop poisoning Mina's head with your bile."

Mina pumped her fist in the air. "You tell em! And I don't think that's her snobbery, just over priced perfume."

Ashley winced at both of their insults, but she quickly turned up her nose. "I see you two are two of a kind. But if you must date someone with a lesser pedigree, so be it. She'll find out in due time what a jerk you are Blind. Not only can't you see the forest for the trees, you can't see anything at all."

Blind put his hands on Mina's shoulders. "I'm not gonna waste another word on you, Ashley. Low-blows at my vision just prove how bitter you are. Come on, Mina."

Mina smiled, feeling Blind's hands on her bare shoulders. "It was nice to meet you, Ashley," she said, knowing how irritated the girl was with Blind's hand placement.

"Hmph!" Ashley said, turning on her heels and stomping off.

"My lawdy," Mina exclaimed as soon as she was gone. "Who put the fly in her Chardonnay?!"

Blind turned Mina around to face him. "I'm afraid I did, Mina. You see, not only were we dating, but we were both top students at Yarhard. Highly competitive. We vied as much for the teachers attention as we did each other. But I don't know if that's really why she's angry at me!"

"Ooh!" Mina said, giddily raising her pinky. "Is it T time?! I've always loved a dose of sweet T!"

Blind opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly, was interrupted by a man with a microphone standing by the ice sculpture of the crow. He was a bell-boy in red hat and concierge suit. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming tonight to Mr. Ebony's party! Our host has a special announcement for you all!"

When Mina saw who strutted up to the ice sculpture, her mouth dropped open and her mind nearly somersaulted in her head.
