Epilogue: Grey Day

The alarm clock rang in Mina's apartment and she stirred.

Not with her usual excitement or grumbling over waking up too early, but with silence.

Complete and utter silence.

It has been two months since the Electra case, and time had flown by, yet the shock and ensuing trauma remained as crisp and clear as a bolt of lightning straight to the scalp.

Electra had been found guilty.

And like a billionaire, she tried to spite her verdict with any means necessary. Hundreds of further legal battles had been waged by her endless army of defense attorneys, but she could not escape the one inevitable truth: she had hired Severus Silvermen, a defense attorney and part time hitman, to do away with the young attorney who had dared to prosecutor her.

And he had succeeded and failed. He had failed to kill her, but the blow he dealt had made her wish for the sweet release of death.

Her life was empty now.

Empty, but she still felt his strong but gentle arms wrap around her when she slept.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Empty, but she remembered the wry and elegant way he'd phrase his words of love for her.

Empty, but his memory continued to fill her brain with so much love.

Love that could never come back.

Life was filled with things one possessed and things one was missing, and well, she missed William most of all.

She spread the curtains to a grey September day.

The sun had already hid behind a veneer of clouds and the brisk cold had ordered the leaves to change. She couldn't believe how much the day reflected her mood.

Cold. Grey. Numb.

Why even wake up at all? Her bed and covers welcomed her with the only softness left.

But instead, she dragged herself to her couch with the Ninja Kitty plushies. She sighed into the biggest cushiest one and switched on the TV.

Immediately, she was greeted with a sight that would have brought her joy on any other day, but this one.

Madame Maxine Electra, in a news coverage by the news company that once ate out of the palm of her hand, was now in an orange jumpsuit, being escorted to the place she truly belonged.

No doubt, she'd be housed in a cozy and safe prison for the one percent, but now she could no longer plot her insane conquests of the world.

President Louse has made a full recovery and was back on the campaign trail. This time facing off against Electra's replacement. A muttering balding suit with less charisma than Legal Suit Larry even.

It was a guaranteed victory and Electra would no longer rule the country by storm.

But all the good news in the world couldn't brighten this grey day.

He was no longer beside her to celebrate their victory.

He had lived and died for his namesake.

And her.

What more could you ask from a perfect boyfriend?

Except to be alive and there for the one who loved him.
