The blonde secretary had just called for Mina's arrest. The young lawyer had seconds to scramble away. Or perhaps she'd have to defend herself? Yep, one can of mace would be able to fend off fifty security guards dogpiling her like she had just caught the pigskin at a football game.
Perhaps the answer was just to curl up in a fetal position and pray this was just a dream. She'd wake up in Versailles next to her hot boyfriend and who'd feel her locks of brunette hair. The blonde nightmare would be over.
Instead, Mina didn't do anything. Her mouth just opened and closed as she stood like a deer ready to be mauled by a bus.
"You are under arrest!" the blonde secretary repeated herself. "For a crime against fashion!"
"F-f-f-fashion?!" Mina stammered.
"Who do you think you are?" the secretary demanded. "David Zowie?! Anyway, girl, you need to get with the program!"
The secretary stepped out from behind the desk and moved closer to Mina, who was still in a catatonic state of shock. "You have violated Electra Fashion Code 777: All thunderbolt shaped earrings should be so needlessly jumbo that they touch your shoulders!"
Mina finally closed her mouth, and reached towards her ears. Indeed, they hung down, but not far enough to make a love connection with her shoulders.
The bob haired secretary flicked her fingers. "Just remember, the bigger the bolts, the bigger the jolts!"
Mina took a deep breath. "Thank you for the advice. I forgot I have to look like a complete hooker for this job."
She immediately regretted her word choice and covered her mouth. "Mmph!"
The secretary giggled as she walked her way back to the desk. "Nothing wrong with a little power exercise of your feminine wiles. How do you think Electra got where she was? Playing checkers?!"
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Mina was dead-silent.
The secretary grinned. "Yes. Because everyone would always checker out!"
Mina managed a nervous laugh. Admittedly, she admired this secretary's tendency towards punishment. As she was quite the pun fan too.
"Anyway," the secretary said, leaning her head in her hands. "I'm Alexandria. What brings you here today?"
Mina took a deep breath and strutted forward towards Alexandria. "I am looking for an internship and I would like to work here for Madame Electra. I hear she's a fair boss."
"Fair boss?" Alexandria laughed. "Do the words 'hostile takeover' mean anything to you? I think you're in the wrong place, girly."
"Oh but..." Mina said, and she reached into her purse.
Here was her trump card. The only thing that could land her an interview over a thousand other blonde bimbos.
"I, uh, received a recommendation from my dear friend, Vicki..."
She removed a note from her purse. It read, "Dear mom, I, like found the perfect girl for your intern program. She like rocks...and stuff!
Vicki"
Alexandria pressed her hand to her chin. "Yes. This barely legible chicken scratch does look like Maxine's daughter...but..."
"But..." Mina repeated.
Buts were literally the end for her. And she didn't mean her rear.
Alexandria narrowed her eyes. "Vicki doesn't have any friends."
Mina thought for a second. It was true. Vicki Electra didn't have friends, only brown nosers looking for a piece of that sweet trust money (Or girls who planned to set her up for a murder, remembering the recent trial). Perhaps the only way to get out of this jam was to reverse the psychology, Raven style.
"Oh snap," Mina said, making a fist. "Perhaps this was all a setup."
"A setup?" Alex asked. "What do you mean?"
Mina smirked. It was time to go full Andy Zapps mode.
"Like, perhaps Vicki really doesn't like me and is setting me up for the worst job ever! This Maxine Electra seems like a total hardbutt! Maybe I should seek my job elsewhere."
Alex took a deep breath. "I mean you can try if you want. You do get good benefits. I've lost weight from the really short lunch breaks."
"That sounds..er...wonderful!" Mina grinned. "I've always wanted to go on a company approved diet."
Much to her surprise, Alexandria reached in her drawer, and hung a thunderbolt shaped day pass around her neck. "Well, if you really want to lose your lunch! This job is for you! Now head straight to floor 99 and you'll have an interview with the err... ..nice lady herself."
Mina...or rather Andy thanked the secretary for the only thing resembling hospitality and paraded towards the elevator. It was gold plated and glistened like an oversized dubloon.
She had done it. She had successfully infiltrated the Empire Electra Building and scored an interview.
But that was the easy part. Now she had an interview with the devil herself.
