Volume 6.5 Chapter 77: Naivety Part 2/2
Scarlet went to bed like the usual. When she did, Selk was beside her bed. With one glance at the child's expression,
Flick!
"Ow!" Scarlet grabbed her forehead as she stared at Selk, "Selk, how could you do that?" That was used with strengthening magic, causing the flick to be more potent than a normal one.
Selk clutched her head, "Miss, you need to go to bed. It's not healthy for your body."
"I can still move!" Scarlet waved her arm back and forth to show how energetic she was.
Selk shook her head as she clutched her, "Then do you want me to read a story?"
"Mmhmm!" Scarlet nodded. She wasn't going to say no to that. But when she did,
"What's going on?!" "Princess, hold onto me!" Selk quickly held onto Scarlet's hand. And that was when a flash encased the room; the two had appeared in the forest. Before them was a group of people.
"Eh? Why is there another person here?"
"It doesn't matter."
"Who are you people?" Selk quickly pushed Scarlet behind her, trying her best to shield her with her body.
"Kill both of them!" The group charged without any second, wanting to take them out! That was when Selk quickly cast her magic. A wave of fire burst!
"What?!"
"She's a mage!"
"Princess! Run away from here now!" Selk screamed out. But Scarlet was too scared to move. That was when an assassin dashed in with a dagger raised.
Splat!
The sound of a knife driving into a body resounded the forest. However, it was not from Scarlet.
"S-Selk," Scarlet murmured as she stared at Selk. She had blocked the blade with her own body.
"Princess, run away from here right now. Don't look back." Selk muttered as she kicked the assassin off.
"Wahh!" Scarlet did just that as she quickly rushed back to the kingdom. She didn't dare look back. Following Selk's words, she knew she had to bring help for her.
And that was when the guards spotted her.
"Princess?!" They were stunned. That was none other than the princess of their kingdom! Why was she outside?! But Scarlet couldn't care as she shouted, "Go help Selk! Selk is still in there!" Pointing at the dense forest, the soldiers' expressions changed.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Head to the forest!" One soldier ordered, and they quickly headed in.
"Princess!" All that strength she had disappeared. Scarlet's body dropped onto the floor as she fainted.
...
"Ngh."
"Princess!" The maids were relieved when Scarlet slowly woke up from her sleep.
"..." Scarlet didn't say anything. She looked around and didn't see the person she most wanted to see.
"Where is Selk?"
"..." The maids were silent. Their expression showed something that made even a child-like Scarlet understand.
"Where is Selk?!" Scarlet called out again. But saying it wouldn't help her as she quickly jumped out of bed. As she was about to dash out of the room, her face slammed into someone's chest.
"..Father." In front of Scarlet was her father, the king of demons.
"Scarlet, what happened?" Her father's expression was tense as she couldn't believe something like this had happened under their watch.
"Where is Selk!" Scarlet called out.
"Your majesty." The maids and the others didn't know what to say to this.
"Follow me." The king didn't say much as he walked. Scarlet followed behind him as they arrived in front of the room. When the two entered, they saw Selk. She was sleeping in a bed.
"Selk!" Scarlet quickly dashed over to her side. But there was no response.
"Selk! Selk! Selk!" Scarlet continued to call out to her.
"She's not going to respond, daughter. She's in a sleep." The king didn't hide anything and revealed it to the girl.
"..." Scarlet's expression dropped.
Young Miss, you need to get your rest.
Young Miss, please study.
Young Miss, I love you.
Hundreds of memories went through Scarlet's mind; Selk smiled throughout all of them. Yet, she wasn't right now.
"Nooo!" Scarlet couldn't take it as she dashed out of the room without a thought. Something broke inside her. But that wasn't the final nail.
"Hmpf! As expected of demons." As Scarlet went outside, she heard a familiar voice. When she looked up, she saw it.
"Fritz! Why are you here?!" And the man wasn't alone as a group of people were beside him.
"Princess, do not get so close to them. They were the ones who attacked you."
"What?!" Scarlet's eyes widened.
"Cats out of the bag." Fritz chuckled. There was no need to hide anything.
"I thought you were my friend!" Scarlet never thought Fritz would be the cause of this!
"Friend? Why would I be friends with a demon? You're nothing more than monsters!" Fritz laughed at the thought, "You're a naive child who thought about cooperation between races? Do you really think so?!'
"..." That was the final nail in the coffin.
"What are you saying to the princess? Keep walking!" The soldier kicked Fritz and the men. They were going to be sent to jail.
"..." Scarlet was left standing there. It finally broke. Her trust in others. Her belief about working together. Everything went into flames. The only thing she had was herself.
...
That was why Keith's words were sickening. When Scarlet heard Keith's introduction, it reminded her of her naive self. But her thought became even more apparent when she saw how he fought. He was hiding his true colors.
Yet, Scarlet clutched her heart right now. No, he's nothing more than a monster hiding under all that skin. It was time to test whether or not this was true or not.
Was he really the person he said he was? Or was he a monster who planned to trick everyone?
