Volume 6 Chapter 42: Boffalo Bones

"We're going to head to the baths!" Without waiting, Carolyn grabbed the girls and headed to the bathroom. They needed to clean themselves after everything they'd been through. While she did, Keith turned to the others,

"I'm going to see what I can cook with this. You guys can hit the showers first." Those ingredients were too interesting not to try!

"Can't we watch?" "Not unless you want to get hungry."

"...I will hit the showers," Herrick said nothing as he went to the bathroom. The rest followed. Keith chuckled as he headed to the kitchen.

Keith summoned all of the bones onto the table. One look was enough for Keith to tell there was something off about the bones. These are really light. Slightly chucking it in the air, it felt more like the weight of an apple than a bone.

Smells like cured meat. Sniffing the bones, there was a slight salty smell.

"How about I simmer it down?" The first thing to do was to treat this bone as a regular bone. He would simmer those bones to make stock. He tossed in some herbs and spices to help with the aroma.

While that boiled, Keith looked at the bone general. It was what you expect as a bone: a giant one. Weight is the same. The size-to-weight ratio was proportional. Keith placed the bone into the oven to let it bake.

"Woof!" "Kwak!" "Keith, what are you making?" The spirit squad entered the kitchen, curious about what Keith was doing.

"Doing some testing with the bones." He noticed a strange glare as he analyzed the bones; it was the wolf spirit. He had been eyeing the bone so intensely.

Stolen story; please report.

"...Do you want one?"

"Woof!" That was a super yes!

Keith placed a bone in its mouth, "Here."

"Woof! Woof!" The wolf was chipper as it bounced back and forth with the bone in its mouth.

"Keith, can I get one as well?" Fira pouted, and so was the bird.

"..." Ahh, I don't think you can. The dog was going to do something with it. But to give one to Fira? There was no way she could do something with it. And the bird as well.

But those eyes. Fira kept looking at him with those cute eyes. He couldn't say no to those eyes. However, it was a bone.

"I will make something delicious with the bones. Can you make do with this for now?" Keith patted Fira's head as cookies appeared in his hand.

"Okay!" Fira nodded as she flew away with the bird spirit.

"Hah!" Keith took a sigh. He almost couldn't take it. As he wondered what was going to happen if Fira returned,

Sniff Sniff. Something was burning! What's going on?! Keith quickly looked at the pot where he tossed the boffalo bones in. Opening the lid, he paused.

Where did all the water go?! Inside the pot were only the bones. He had submerged the bones in water to let them sit. But the water was nowhere to be found!

Keith scratched his head as he poured more water into the pot. He didn't close it with a lid. He examined it, wondering what was going on. As he did,

What in the world?! The bones absorbed all the water! It sucked all the water there, leaving the pot bone dry! As he continued to stare at the bones,

Are they getting bigger? Keith noticed the bones were slightly thicker than the beginning! Keith grabbed the bone.

Squishy! And the weight of these things! It was much heavier than the last time. A bright smile formed on Keith's face.

This is so interesting! How could he not be interested after all of this? I need to fill it up with a lot of water. The bones may require a lot of water to cook it. Keith took out some water and dumped it into the pot again. How much is it going to take?

Keith continued to toss water into the bone until it didn't take any longer. It's finished, right? Touching the bone, it was much more tender than before.

Can I really eat this? Now, he wondered how to go with this.
