Volume 6 Chapter 34: What Was That Magic?

"You sure you want something like that?" Keith tilted his head. Herrick nodded, "Carolyn was the one who suggested straws when we fought against the boss. It's simple and effective."

"What if you get Alfia?" Gabriel grinned. It was not guaranteed he would get a safe pick.

"..." Herrick's expression froze when he heard that. He could already imagine the destructiveness she would cause.

"Please, I don't want to do that as well." No way was she going to be paired up with him, "I've already had enough with that cuff debacle." There was no need for more.

Everyone chuckled when they heard that. Keith thought, "Let's go with these pairs; Gabriel and Herrick, Jack and Sarah, Melor and Faelyn, then Alfia, Arlo, and Carolyn."

"Huh? Why is there a three-person squad?" "Because the three of you are the worst sleepers," Keith answered. Alfia was one of those people who slept in.

"What about me?" Carolyn frowned.

"Because you get cranky." Keith knew his childhood friend all too well.

"I don't-" "Remember the last time you bit me because I tried to wake you up?"

"That was when we were kids!" Carolyn's cheeks turned red. Keith nodded, "But I do want you guys to stay together." The trio was a good group.

"Wait, doesn't that mean you will be watching alone?" Faelyn frowned.

"Mmhmm." That meant he would be watching it all alone.

"Will you be fine with that?"

Stolen story; please report.

"Mmhmm, I can do it." Keith had done it for some time. There was no need to worry about it.

"Alright."

"I'll take the first watch then," Gabriel raised his hand, and the rest nodded. They entered their tents to rest.

...

"Keith, it's your turn to watch." In the middle of the night, Melor pushed Keith's shoulders.

"Understood." Keith got out of his tent and sat by the fire. There was nothing much he needed to do. Watch and sense if any monsters approach and call for them. As he continued to watch it, someone came out of a tent,

"Why are you up?" Keith looked at Carolyn. Her group had already taken her shift.

"Can't go to sleep."

Really? Keith didn't believe her one bit. That yawn coming from her mouth said otherwise. Carolyn sat beside Keith and looked at the fire with him. Keith shook his head, "You need to get more sleep."

"And I said I'm not tired." Carolyn shook her head and scolded, "I'm your party member. Don't treat me like a child."

"I'm not." "Well, you are treating me like a child."

"..." An eerie silence formed between the two before Keith asked, "By the way, where did you learn that magic?" He had been wondering about it throughout the exploration. It was the same magic she used to deal with the golem. However, it was different. Like it was sharper.

"I learned it from someone." Carolyn smiled.

"Who did you learn it from?" "Just someone."

Not going to say anything. Knowing how stubborn Carolyn was, there was no way she would spill the name out. Keith sighed, "But don't overexert yourself. That magic seems to take a lot out of you." Keith noticed it. The magic took a lot of mana. It was not normal at all.

"Don't worry about it. I can handle it. He told me I'm capable of it." Carolyn grinned.

"..." I hope so.

"What are you doing right now?" Carolyn looked down to where Keith was staring at some paper.

"I want to freshen my mind up. We're going to hit the 3rd floor soon. I want to keep everyone safe." The middle of the 3rd floor. That was his end goal. After that, they were going to return.

"You worry about us too much."

"True. But sometimes being more cautious is important," Keith smiled as he continued to look through the things there. Carolyn sighed as she leaned on him.

"What are you doing?"

"Going to bed?" "Didn't I tell you to go to bed before?"

"This is better," Carolyn chuckled. Keith shook his head as he continued to look through the papers.
