Volume 5 Chapter 45: A Noble's pride? Will That Feed Me?

While that happened, Keith headed to the library. As he did, the students gave him a strange look. That was going to happen for some time. Keith shook his head. As he headed to the tables, he spotted Ange.

A smile formed, "Hello, Senior."

"Hello, Keith." Ange smiled, but then she noticed the situation.

"What happened to you?!" His shirt was covered in stains!

"Someone spilled their food over me," Keith laughed. He had cleaned most of it off with water magic. However, that was the only thing he could do. The stain was still there. It didn't matter all too much.

"Well, that won't do." "Eh?"

"You have to be presentable with looks like yours," Ange moved her hand, and the stains on Keith's clothes started to change! It went from brown to white!

Keith's eyes widened, "Thank you so much!"

"It's fine. A senior has to help our juniors."

"But senior, you know how to use chantless?" Keith realized Ange was a skilled mage. Only a few people knew how to use chantless magic. To use a spell like that to clean his shirt was probably difficult.

"It was nothing," Ange shook her head. But it was easy to tell she was lying.

"Senior, do you want a snack?"

"Hmm? What kind of snacks are we talking about?" Ange's interest peaked.

"Please try these," Keith took out some cookies, "These are butter cookies I baked."

"These are cookies? I never had them before." Ange was intrigued as she took a cookie. When she bit into it, there was no reaction. Her hand halted as no words came out.

"Senior?" Keith tilted his head.

"Eh?" Ange's expression turned red as she smiled, "Sorry about that, Keith. I was just amazed by the taste."

"Then do you want more," Keith asked.

"Is that fine?"

"Sure! I don't mind!" Keith smiled as he took out a jar of cookies! And when she saw that, Ange waved her hand, "Keith, you're bringing out too much!" Never did she expect Keith to have so many cookies in stock.

"It's fine. I did all the baking myself. Just take it as a gift," Stuff like this wasn't much.

"... Thank you for the offer," But then she realized, "Let me put it away. The librarian won't like it if we eat here," Did they forget about being in a library?

"Oh, yeah." Keith laughed.

"Now let's talk about books," Like that, the two of them started to talk with one another. The two continued talking for quite some time before the library was going to close. Sayin' his goodbyes to Ange, he headed for the gates.

As he walked,

"Keith, can I speak to you for a moment?" Keith turned around to see Faelyn.

...

"Come on, why are you pouting like that?!" Melor laughed as he stared at Herrick. But that pouting was more like a deadly animal snarling. It wasn't cute at all!

"Can't you see you're scaring the others?" The beastmen and dwarves didn't dare to get near Herrick.

"Shut up," Herrick didn't care as he kicked the floor. That caused Melor to turn around and sigh.

Herrick headed for the gate. But his expression was that angry. He was still pissed off about what had happened during lunch. How could he act so nonchalant about this?!

Those elves were clearly in the wrong for trying to mess with him! Why did he have to be the calm one? If it was him, he would have crushed those elves. They were nothing more than insignificant bugs.

As Herrick continued,

"Keith, I want to apologize for what happened."

Eh? Herrick's ears were much sharper than others. It was faint. But he could hear it was Keith. He quickly followed the voice. It was father away. But he knew where it was. What he saw was Faelyn apologizing to Keith.

"What's there to apologize for?"

"I know that those elves were trying to mess with you." It was clear as day the elves wanted to mess with Keith.

"I should have scolded them more." What they did was too much.

"There's no need to worry about that," Taking a deep sigh, Keith explained, "That was the best course of action. If I had fought, that would have caused a problem with Alfia."

"..." Faelyn's eyes widened.

Eh? What does he mean? Herrick was confused. How would this affect Alfia?

"If I really did attack those elves, that would place Alfia in a tough situation." Who was Alfia? She was none other than the princess of the elves. However, she was hanging out with their group. If Keith had attacked them,

"She would have to pick between her race and us," Keith understood. He didn't want to put her through that situation. He could tell Alfia valued her race. However, she also thought of Keith and the rest as friends.

"Thank you for understanding," Faelyn bowed.

"There's no need to do that. What are friends for," Keith smiled. He also thought of her as a friend.

"!" Faelyn froze when she heard that.

"Also, thank goodness it was cold food. Dodged a bullet right there," Keith wiped the sweat off his face. Hot food would have been bad.

"What about your pride?" Faelyn was worried about that. A noble's pride was important. Those elves had smeared that pride.

"Eh? What about pride? Will it help me solve problems?" Keith questioned. He really didn't care much about that concept.

"A noble's pride? Will that help feed me? Will that solve all the problems?" Keith shrugged, "I could care less about it."

"...You really are different from others,"

"Get that a lot. Well, I'm heading home now!" Keith headed to the teleportation gate. Before he entered,

"Hmm? Was there something there?" Keith looked around. He shrugged his shoulders as he entered the gate.

"..." Herrick took a deep sigh. For a second, he thought he would be exposed. That guy's senses are too sharp. He breathed deeply for a second, and Keith noticed!

He thought about what Keith said. Does pride really matter? To him, pride was everything. That was the reason why he wasn't going to let anyone mess with him.

Keith was the opposite of that. He didn't care about pride.

"..." Hearing all of this, Herrick was lost in thought. He thought about how Keith got food spilled over him. He was so composed through it all.

If it was me? There was no need to think about it. He might have caused a fight between elves and beastmen.

"Dammit!" Herrick realized how much of a difference he was to Keith.
