Volume 6 Chapter 20: Bring It On!
"Thank you so much, Dorm Mother Diana!" Having a golem would be a great rehearsal against the real one. Herrick cracked his neck, "Let's get to work."
"Yes," Alfia was prepared as the two face off against the golem.
...
"Again?! Why are you charging in like that?!" Alfia scolded as she grabbed her head. The two of them fought with the golem; it was the same result.
"Why do you keep firing so slowly?!" Herrick groaned. Thankfully, he didn't get blasted in the back again. But Alfia didn't fire magic at the thing for two minutes. Two minutes may seem short. However, in a fight, it was a lot.
"Okay, this is not helping." She thought fighting with the golem would help them out. It did the opposite. While the two were silent, Diana suggested,
"How about the two of you stop fighting against golems."
"Hmm?"
"Rather than practicing, you two need to talk with one another."
"What are we supposed to talk about?"
"That's for you guys to find out. Not me." Diana nodded, "Please call me when you want to practice again." She said nothing else as she entered the mansion. That was all the help she was going to give.
"She's right. We need to get on the same page."
"I see,"
"It's clear my thought process and your process are two completely different things." They needed to work together, or they would screw up the assignment again.
"Alright." Herrick sat down.
"First things first, why are you charging in like that?" That was the problem she had. Herrick was one-sidedly charging in like a madman.
"That's because I don't want to give the golem any distance. It can't attack with all its strength if I go in." The golem swung its arm. For it to swing like that, there was a wind-up. That was why Herrick jumped: reducing that distance would lower the power.

"I see," Hearing what he was trying to do made sense.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm waiting for the golem to show its weak point. For a monster of that size, there has to be a weakness. I want to fire a high-level magic and blow up that spot." She saw what Scarlet did. She could do the same.
"That would take too long." Herrick frowned. Waiting for the perfect moment would affect their grade.
"Charging in like that would waste your strength as well." The golem was sturdy. It took Herrick's blows and survived.
"..." "...." Silence yet again.
"Ragghh! One of us has to yield!" There was no choice. One of them had to follow the other's plan.
"..." Neither one said a thing again! That was because the two didn't think their method was wrong!
This was going to be tough.
...
"Are the two of you-nevermind." Keith looked away. Today was the day of the reexamination. The students who failed the assignment get to do it again.
Alfia and Herrick both had dark expressions as they waited for their turn.
"Did something happen to them?" Carolyn questioned. The intensity from the two was incredible. No one dared to talk with them.
"It's because they were devising a plan throughout the night." Keith heard it. While he walked to the bathroom at night, he heard Herrick and Alfia talking about it in the dining room.
"Can they defeat it now?"
"I don't know."
"Eh?"
"The two were screaming at one another." Keith scratched his head. I guess the two didn't get any sleep. Those dark circles said a lot.
"Herrick! Alfia! You two are up!" Tennol called. The two of them got up,
"It's finally time." "Yes,"
Are you guys going to war? They made it sound like they would fight a behemoth!
The two stood in the arena.
"We're going to add something extra for you two." Tennol grinned.
"What?!" The two's eyes changed. Extra? What kind of extra was he going to add?! There was something they were worried about.
The golem was summoned. And that extra was really apparent. The golem had four arms!
"Are you serious? Ain't that kinda dangerous?" Those four arms weren't the only thing that changed. The size of the golem was twice the original.
Ain't that kind of overkill? Everyone thought.
What are they going to do? Keith thought. It was something that couldn't be changed. Since it was Alfia and Herrick, it was not surprising that their assignment was more difficult than the others.
The two looked at one another. The look the two shared said it all. Stepping up,
"Bring it on!" The two shouted!
