CHAPTER 927 INCREASING THE SPEED WITH GOLDEN CROW
When Hailey's beautiful figure flew out of the purple fog, the earth seemed to have frozen over.
Even though Anthony had come with her, seeing her still put him in a daze.
"Hello," Darren said.
Darren's heart skipped a beat. Her face was so beautiful, yet it felt so familiar to him.
"Hello? Is that all you have to say to me?" Hailey said, huffing. Her dress fluttered in the wind as she
spoke. In that moment, it seemed that there was no one in the world more beautiful than she.
"Long time no see. I don't really know what to say." Darren smiled. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
"Darren, do you know Hailey?" Laura couldn't help but ask. Her eyes filled with jealousy when she saw
them looking at each other.
"Yes, I do. We are friends," Darren nodded.
"Oh, what a coincidence!" Anthony was standing right next to Hailey, and his gaze had never left her
face.
The corners of Hailey's mouth lifted into a wry smile. She looked uncomfortable.
A few months back, she had heard that Darren was going to enter the eighteen cities. She had
imagined meeting Darren many times after she had heard the news. She did not expect to feel so calm.
The wind whistled in their ears.
Hailey tried to let her thoughts float away with the breeze. She smiled gently and walked to Darren. She
reached out her hand. "Nice to meet you again, my friend."
Darren's heart suddenly swelled with an unidentifiable emotion, but he managed a small smile. He took
Hailey's delicate hand and shook it, but only for a few seconds.
His politeness and his touch made Hailey feel like she had been struck by lightning. She felt a chill run
down her spine.
"Anthony, how about we go somewhere else to look for the golden crows?" Hailey said, stepping back
from Darren.
"Shouldn't we all stay together?" Anthony asked, confused.
"You know that I don't like to be around too many people," Hailey said apologetically.
"Oh! Right!" Anthony scratched his head. "I'm sorry. I'll go with you to find the golden crows."
"Laura, I'm sorry that I have to leave you and Darren alone," Anthony said, winking. He turned around
to follow Hailey, who had already begun walking.
Darren gazed after Hailey's retreating figure, a bittersweet smile on his face.
"Looks like you two have history."
Laura's blunt words brought Darren back to reality.
Darren rolled his eyes and tried to think of a witty comeback, but his mind was blank. He couldn't find a
word to retort.
"Aha. Your silence means yes,"
Laura said, jokingly. She tried to put on a brave front but in truth, she was hurt that Darren did not deny
what she said. 'Please, please, please. Say it isn't true!' Laura pleaded in her heart.
"Let's go to see if we caught a golden crow,"
Darren finally said, walking away. Laura's heart dropped to her stomach.
'Oh, he makes me so upset! So, he really does have a history with that bitch... I remember that he told
me his wife's name is Elsa. Well, turns out that he is such a playboy. He pretends to be a honest man
but, really...'
Waves of emotion washed over Laura. When she looked up to confront Darren, she found that he had
already gone ahead of her. She hurriedly used her spiritual sense to follow him.
After checking all the Serial Feminine Rings, Darren did not find a single golden crow in any of them.
"Damn. Not even a single feather," Laura muttered.
"Don't worry. It's only been a few hours," Darren said absent-mindedly.
"Darren, are you thinking of her?" Laura suddenly asked.
"What?" Darren was confused.
"Stop pretending you don't know what I'm talking about. Hailey! I mean Hailey Yao. Are you thinking
about her? What happened between you two?" Laura asked, her voice mocking.
"Nothing," Darren said, getting annoyed.
"Don't lie to me. You men are not to be trusted!"
Laura pouted. Hearing Darren's reply, Laura felt more certain that they had history. There was no way
that nothing had happened between them. And she wanted to know whether Darren was the one who
had taken the initiative to approach Hailey. She had noticed that Hailey was the one who was anxious
to leave, so she thought that Darren might have hurt Hailey.
"You're so annoying! Stop asking me. Not everyone is like you, you know!"
Darren retorted without thinking.
"You!" A lump rose in Laura's throat. "What do you mean, Darren? You think I'm a tramp, don't you?"
Darren froze for a moment, realizing his words were a bit too harsh.
"Sorry, I wasn't thinking. I was just too angry."
"Ha!" Laura let out a bitter laugh. "You don't need to explain. I get it. You saved my life twice. You're
entitled to say whatever you want. Whatever,"
Laura said coldly, and then she disappeared in a flash of light.
Darren took a deep breath and let out a sigh.
He didn't chase after Laura. She probably needed her space.
"Caw, caw, caw..."
A moment later, a shadow appeared and fell straight into the Serial Feminine Rings.
A cold and ghastly aura burst out from the Serial Feminine Rings, and it caught the bird before it could
fly away.
"Caw, caw, caw!" The bird flapped its wings frantically.
"It's a golden crow!"
The noise caught Darren's attention. He transformed into a bright light and transported himself beside
the trap. He lifted his hand to strike.
The golden crow panicked, and it flapped its wings even faster. It shot out several golden arrows from
its body, each one wrapped in blinding light.
However, the power of the tied golden crow was weakened by the Serial Feminine Rings. Darren just
took out his sword and cut the arrows in half.
Then he raised his hand again and crushed the golden crow's head with one blow.
Finally, Darren obtained the golden crow's fragment.
"Assimilate!" he shouted.
Darren began to assimilate the talent of the beast.
However, to his surprise, he felt a different force enter his body instead of its martial arts talent.
"What's this?"
Darren felt as light as a feather.
"Oh! Golden crows are known for being exceptionally fast. I must have assimilated their Speed Rules!"
To test out his theory, Darren sped into the void. Just as he had expected, his speed had increased.
'It turns out that assimilating the golden crow can increase my speed. If I had assimilated more of it, I
would be as fast as I was when the dragon ancestor helped me activate the fragment.'
Darren's previous speed was only temporary, and he needed the dragon ancestor to activate the
arcane skill to help him.
Although the new speed he obtained after assimilating the golden crow's Speed Rule wasn't as fast as
the previous one, it was permanent. It was a much better way to improve his speed.
He decided to capture more golden crows to increase his speed. He freed his mind of any other
thoughts and hid in the dark, waiting for more of the birds to fall into the trap.
