CHAPTER 890 ENTERING THE RIVER BY ACCIDENT
The strange stone in Darren's soul only changed a third, but it appeared that the one third was a
dodecahedral crystal. Upon examining the crystals of this sort, he understood that they could be used
to attack.
For example, when Darren saw his avatar's hexahedral crystal for the first time, he found that it could
activate the rule force. Roc Demon Emperor's crystal could be used in the same way.
'This strange stone in my soul is also a crystal, or a Fake God Character. I should be able to use it to
activate the rule force, ' thought Darren.
'But how exactly do I use it?'
Previously, Darren had not concerned himself with this matter, but he was curious now. Unfortunately,
he knew nothing about it.
Even as Darren mulled this over, the strange stone began to spin, seemingly of its own power.
A pleasant buzz sounded in his ears as the rotation picked up speed.
Faster and faster it went, and Darren's soul began to feel lighter, even weightless, and more at ease.
The buzzing sound was swallowed up by claps of thunder.
Lightning flashed within Darren's soul as the strange stone detached itself and slowly began to float out
of him.
At the same time, the magma arrow was still approaching Darren, suffused with frightening power.
Darren had no doubt that he would die if the arrow struck him.
But just then, the black stone emerged from his head and hung suspended in midair.
The whole underground world went still, as though time itself was frozen.
The magma arrow, too, was halted, stopping inches from Darren's heart.
One thousand feet away, the holy emperor's soul was likewise rooted in place. The ferocious
expression on his face began to twist in dismay, as if he had seen something extremely horrible.
"No!
You are..."
He paused for a moment. Then, suddenly, the holy emperor's soul roared and began to back away.
But he didn't get far.
A high-speed stream of what seemed to be magma blasted into him. The force slowed the holy
emperor's soul down. As the seconds passed, it even seemed to be pulling him back toward Darren.
"No! How can this be possible?!"
the soul cried out hysterically.
Darren stood where he was, observing with awe and not a little fear. He felt a great and exotic power
bursting out from the strange rotating stone before him.
"This power seems to be a level higher than that of the Emperor Realm!" Darren exclaimed to himself.
Indeed, the flow of magma triggered by the strange stone seemed to be irresistible.
However, Darren still couldn't control the strange stone. As if to drive this point home, its power
abruptly disintegrated and vanished in a flash.
Not wasting a moment, the holy emperor's soul gasped with relief and fled away.
Everything quieted down as the strange stone returned to Darren's soul. The only remaining evidence
of its power was the burning magma which had fallen and splashed to the floor.
"Oh! Thank God!" Saying this, Darren hurriedly took another drop of red liquid, then checked the
strange stone where they were stored.
"Well, there are still three drops left," he murmured. "That's enough for me to activate the power of the
half-step emperor level three more times. It will be good enough."
Since he'd frightened the holy emperor's soul out of that place, Darren prepared to leave.
However, a strange sound gave him pause.
It was a subtle thing, difficult to identify.
At first he thought it was the sound of magma surging, but as he listened, he realized that it wasn't
quite the same.
"Eh? Is there a river down here? One of something other than magma?"
Darren was curious. In fact, the sound was similar to that of a stream.
"Is it another river of a holy emperor's blood?" he asked himself.
That was an intriguing possibility. The last time Darren had stumbled across the river of the holy
emperor's blood, he had obtained twelve drops of the holy emperor's power. If he found another one
here, it would truly be a prize.
He decided, therefore, to follow the sound and look for the river.
'I'll have to be quick about it if I don't want to be burned to a crisp, ' Darren thought gravely.
With that, he gathered all his strength and moved towards the magma. The enormous heat buffeted
him intensely, but he fought through the pain with sheer force of will.
In just a few seconds, the distinct sound of the water became clear and audible. He soon caught sight
of clear water flow, just a kilometer away.
"That's so strange," he commented, baffled. "The water looks like it's flowing through the magma
instead of being evaporated. How could this be?"
Darren immediately flew to the water. When he came closer, he found that it seemed no different from
any other stream.
Without thinking about it, he drew near and stepped into the stream. Instantly, a cold, comfortable
feeling spread through his body, and all the burning pain disappeared as if by magic.
Moreover, the burn on his body began to heal itself so quickly that he could watch it disappear. In C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
moments, his skin became white and smooth.
"It's amazing," he said, amazed. Feeling quite in need of a respite, he lay down in the stream and let it
carry him along for a while.
'I wonder where this flows to, ' thought Darren after a while. On and on he floated, and his curiosity only
grew. As more time passed without him seeing anything interesting, he couldn't wait any longer.
Feeling much refreshed, he decided to mobilize his power and follow the flow actively, instead of letting
it carry him.
After flying for a few hours, Darren was astonished to find that the stream began to flow upward!
He sped up, following the curve. Several more hours passed, and he inexplicably began to see a black
sky, dense with glittering stars about him.
"It's so strange. This stream actually flows into the void," he remarked.
Looking far into the distance, he observed that the stream progressively widened, and its surface
shone more and more with the reflection of stars. In time, it looked like a galaxy flowing through the
emptiness of the cosmos.
Darren's heart skipped a beat as he took in the view.
He had seen such a sight before. The last time, though, he had seen it from below.
"Is this… The River of Forgetfulness?"
Darren was dumbfounded.
Incredible as it was, it seemed likely. There was no other river that passed through the void that he had
ever heard of, let alone seen with his own eyes.
Over and over again he shook his head, wondering if he was dreaming. "Did I really get into the River
of Forgetfulness by accident?" he wondered.
At that moment he remembered that there were many ancient senior holy warriors hiding in the River of
Forgetfulness. Thus, if he were to detect their presence, it would be proof that he was indeed in that
river.
As the shimmering waters continued to broaden, Darren decided to slow down, flying no faster than the
river itself flowed.
'It's lucky that I didn't drink the water, ' he thought to himself. 'According to that late witcher, if I did that,
I would forget everything.'
Yet more hours passed as he followed the river, which grew wider still. Along its banks, Darren saw
many exotic green plants growing.
Since he was out of the dark forbidden domain, Darren could use his spiritual sense again. Releasing it
now, he used it to scan the area tens of thousands of kilometers ahead.
"So many powerful beings here!" he exclaimed.
This finally confirmed his conjecture. He was indeed in the River of Forgetfulness.
Darren's heart leaped at the thought. There were many secrets in that ancient and mysterious river that
even the witcher couldn't reach.
Still flying along and marveling over this discovery, Darren was caught off guard when he smacked his
head against something very solid.
It stopped him cold. As he clutched his skull while waiting for the pain to fade, he found that whatever
he'd run into was invisible.
'What's this?' he wondered, frowning. 'Some kind of restriction. I can't seem to move forward.'
Nevertheless, his curiosity continued to drive him.
Darren thought at first that he would just break through the barrier with sheer brute strength.
Unfortunately, he found the restriction totally impregnable to him.
"Oh, I can't pass. That sure is disappointing," he mumbled to himself.
He had sensed that there were many ancient senior holy warriors ahead of him, but he was unable to
go and explore this secret area. He could hardly have been more unhappy.
Darren released his spiritual sense again. However, something was interfering with it.
'Wow. It looks like there's a total of eighteen restrictions!' Darren observed, counting them.
'Wait a minute! It seems that there's somebody in the twelfth one.' Indeed, he remembered then that
when he had first detected the barriers, there had been a vague human figure there in the midst of the
restrictions.
He used his spiritual sense again and began to inspect the twelfth restriction more closely than before.
What Darren found left him stunned with anger and bitterness.
