Chapter 843 Would He Do Anything Bad To Me

CHAPTER 843 WOULD HE DO ANYTHING BAD TO ME

"Darren, what are you doing? You're letting him get away!" Barnes the Holy snapped at Darren. His

eyes were accusing as he looked at Darren, trying to avoid getting blamed for the kylin's escape.

Darren's face darkened upon hearing Barnes' accusation.

Unable to control himself, Darren went over and slapped the other man in the face.

Barnes was too stunned at first, but it was immediately replaced by fury.

"How dare you slap me? You really are looking for death. Come here and I'll kill you myself," he

bellowed in pain.

The mutated monkey and the others immediately interceded.

"Don't mind him, Darren. Barnes the Holy is only in a bad mood. He didn't mean to annoy you. Also,

the kylin is an easy opponent. He can run away now, but we'll definitely get him soon." Caroline tried to

soothe Darren.

But he was still too angry. "You're the one who messed up and let him get away, not me. But now

you're putting your mistakes on me? I'll get you for this."

"Hey! Don't take this too seriously. This is all just a joke." Barnes rushed to the mutated monkey's side,

as if searching for protection.

"Darren, you're back!"

At this moment, an old kylin of the Water Kylin Clan flew out.

He then froze in his tracks, feeling a little uneasy upon seeing the people with Darren.

Sensing this, Darren made the introductions. "These are my friends, and they are here to help us fight

against the Fire Kylin."

The old kylin didn't say anything. He only continued to size them up, taking note of how powerful

Darren's friends were. He couldn't help but wonder if bringing them with him would cause trouble in the

long run.

Of course, his doubts didn't have anything to do with not trusting Darren. After all, he was the prince's

good buddy. But if Darren was threatened by them, then these people could pose a problem later.

"Old kylin, if you won't let us in, then we'll have to leave with Darren," Augustine said, rather impatiently.

After some deliberation, the old kylin chose to put his trust on Darren and his companions.

"You are Darren's friends, so you are distinguished guests of our Water Kylin Clan. Please come in."

Everyone then entered the passageway.

"Did your patriarch wake up?" Darren asked the old kylin as soon as they were inside the passage.

The old kylin shook his head. "Our patriarch is badly ill due to depression. I'm afraid he won't wake up

until the prince manages to obtain the inheritance."

"What about Finley? How is he?"

"He is in closed-door cultivation for now. I believe he has just made a breakthrough recently, so we

dare not disturb him.

Enough about us. How about you? How are you doing? You got everyone worried. You are our prince's

good friend. If anything happens to you, we won't be able to bear it," the old kylin said.

Darren shrugged. "I had some business to attend to, but let's go now. I need to see Finley."

They moved along until they finally arrived at the lake where the Water Kylin Clan settled.

Ensconced in this broad, magnificent cave, all the members of the Water Kylin Clan were gathered

together. The old turtle man was also there.

The Chief Elder of the Water Kylin Clan then stepped forward to greet them. After hearing Darren's

explanation of the story, the Chief Elder shifted his gaze on the gray-haired monkey.

"I thank you on behalf of our patriarch for your help. We used to call each other enemies, but now, we

consider you our friends."

The monkey appeared indifferent. "I was only helping Darren. No need to thank me."

"Cut the crap. Monkey, go and bring me some good wine," Barnes snapped. He was sitting with his

legs crossed. His air was arrogant as if to display his prestigious status.

The monkey gave him a respectful "yes" before he fetched him a large jar of good wine.

When the senior members of the Water Kylin Clan saw this, they realized the black-haired monkey had

a higher status over the gray-haired monkey. They, too, began showing him respect.

But Augustine was not having this. "Old kylin, why do you only welcome Barnes the Holy and the

monkey? Why do you ignore Caroline and Naomi? Both of them have a nobler bloodline than that of

you kylins."

"Don't say it like that, Augustine..." Darren gave Augustine a silencing glance. "Why care so much

about manners? Barnes the Holy, the damn black monkey is the only one who likes flashy etiquette."

"Well... Of course, Miss Caroline is very much welcome to visit our humble abode." The senior leader

of the Water Kylin Clan tried to cover up his embarrassment with a sheepish laugh.

Darren dismissed the blunder and immediately went straight to the point. "Let's stop talking nonsense.

Has the Fire Kylin done anything during my absence?"

"It seems that he has just disappeared. We haven't heard anything from him for some time now," the

old turtle man spoke up. He was on his feet now and had taken two steps forward. "But recently, there

have been strong waves of fire in the eastern sky. I believe that this is the Fire Kylin's doing."

"I see. But just today, I have encountered several kylins from the Fire Kylin Clan on my way here.

By the way, sir, what about the Water Kylin? Has he had any chance of obtaining the inheritance?"

Darren asked.

The old turtle man looked thoughtful for a while and answered, "It's still too early to know for sure. But

he has been in the cave of inheritance for a long time. Everything seems peaceful and quiet over there

and he hasn't been disturbed by anyone yet. I believe he'll be able to make himself compatible with the

Water Soul Crystal in time."

"I hope so," Darren said, solemnly.

Barnes took this as an opportunity to ask, "Dear Darren, where is Finley?"

Darren rolled his eyes at him. He was obviously still annoyed at him. "Fuck off! And don't call me 'Dear

Darren'. It's useless."

Barnes raised an eyebrow at this. "Look at you. You are a man now and yet you act like a baby. Be like

me. Even though you have beaten me several times already, I have never been angry at you. Just

learn from me and try to be tolerable. It's a good virtue." He was only teasing, but his tone sounded

preachy.

Darren stared at the other man, trying to calculate just how many times he had defeated him.

"Well then, I forgive you. You are an important and powerful master, and I don't want to waste my time

holding a grudge against you. Come now, let's go and visit Finley." With that, Darren walked ahead and

left the cave.

Pleased by their reconciliation, Barnes happily followed.

As they walked, Darren decided to bring up a conversation.

"Barnes the Holy, if you regain your power, what do you want to do first?"

"You have helped me a lot so I'll surely repay you first in return."

"Come on. Be honest. I bet you want to kill me and Finley first, don't you?" A strange light flickered in

Barnes' eyes. Darren could not help but notice it.

"I really don't know what you are going on about. Why are you so suspicious? I'm a man of principle.

How could I kill someone who helped me? You think too much." Then, Barnes laughed.

"Well then, don't you want to kill your Inner Fiend?"

With these words, Barnes froze in his tracks and the murderous light flared back to life in his eyes.

"I have to kill him." He spat out as a ferocious aura steadily flowed out of him.

Darren turned around to face Barnes, his confusion evident on his face. "I don't understand why you

two want to kill each other? Aren't you guys from the same origin? Just like my Rule Soul Avatar and I.

He is stronger than I am, but as long as I am in danger, he wouldn't hesitate to help me. We get along.

So why can't you guys do that?"

Barnes laughed coldly.

"Think of it this way. What if one day, your avatar decides to drive your soul out of your body and

occupy it entirely? How would you feel?"

"No, that's impossible for him to do so. He also won't dare," Darren said confidently.

"Young man, nothing is impossible in this world. You just haven't encountered this because you are still

not in that level yet. Once a cultivator reaches a certain level, he starts losing his emotions. He

Someday, your avatar might become like that. I only advise you to be careful."

Dread descended upon Darren, but he still refused to believe Barnes. "No, he wouldn't do that. There's

absolutely no way."

Silence fell between them as they flew toward the cave where Finley was. Darren was obviously too

preoccupied by the topic. He couldn't help but wonder if his avatar would eventually come to that point

as well.
