CHAPTER 1494 GUIDING IN
Both Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar looked at the tall, thin man in black in surprise. They wondered
how he knew who they were.
"Sir, have we met before?"
"No," the man in black answered, shaking his head. "I've never seen either of you before, but I've heard
a lot of stories. You are quite famous."
"You flatter me, sir," Darren stood up and said, cupping his hands politely.
"Ha-ha," chuckled the man in black. He then asked, "What brought you here?"
"Sir, to tell you the truth, we're on our way to the cemetery to guard the tombs," Darren said.
This answer brought obvious surprise to the man in black. He remained silent for a moment before
asking lightly, "Are you stuck outside?"
Darren nodded. "Would you be so kind as to lead us in, sir? Your help would be very much
appreciated," he asked back.
"Please don't call me 'sir'. Some already regard you and me on the same level; in terms of potential
that is. The respect is mutual." The man's tone was neither here nor there, difficult to read and be able
to tell if he was joking casually or mocking Darren.
After a pause, the man in black went on, "Tell me your purpose of going in."
His first comment confused Darren as to whether they would get any help from this person. Now
though, there seemed to be a chance for them.
"Aunt Yolanda has asked us to hold a memorial ceremony for Supreme God Braxton." The Rule Soul
Avatar jumped in with a lie before Darren could even open his mouth.
"Humph, that's it?" snorted the man in black, unimpressed. Content provided by .
"Yes, that's it." The Rule Soul Avatar nodded flatly. He seemed somewhat annoyed by this man.
"Darren, you avatar is really interesting, especially with that pair of silvery eyes he has. I vaguely recall
Supreme God Braxton seemed to have a pair of silvery eyes as well. Are you planning on taking your
avatar in to find something for him?
Allow me to remind you how this works. The supreme gods' cemetery is a sacred and inviolable place.
If you wish to go in there and retrieve something, I advise you to abandon that idea right now. I do not
mind crushing the both of you. There is no one who can stop me from doing it either, not even the
ancestor. Do you understand?"
The man's tone turned icy and vicious, and there was even killing intent within it.
Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar felt his killing intent reach the depths of their souls. It was an
indescribably horrific feeling, one that rattled them at their core.
Fortunately, it seemed to be only illusory and dispersed in an instant. Even so, they had already broken
out into a cold sweat.
"Sir, you may rest assured that that is not our intention. We simply wish to hold a memorial ceremony
for Supreme God Braxton to show our respect, as Aunt Yolanda ordered us to. We have no other
agenda. Please help us out," Darren responded earnestly.
"Alright then. For Ms. Yolanda Leng's sake, I will take you. Come with me."
The man in black turned and strode to the black iron gate, seemingly displeased and annoyed. Darren
and the Rule Soul Avatar immediately fell in behind him and followed.
The black iron gate swung open quietly. Beyond it, nothing else could be seen but black mist that
shrouded everything.
The man said nothing and simply walked through in silence.
They followed, a little nervous since the two black-robed men who guarded the gate appeared before
them once more.
"Stop!"
Darren's heart stopped at the order.
This time however, the two guards did not try to restrain Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar as they had
before, but tossed two black hooded cloaks over to them.
"Put them on and carry on." The simple, practical words relieved Darren and made him happy.
"Thank you," he said and cupped his hands.
He and the Rule Soul Avatar immediately put the black hooded cloaks on, covering their heads just as
the men in black did.
Darren looked over at the Rule Soul Avatar, his face completely in darkness, not even an outline could
be seen. What was more, he sensed his aura was at the Deputy God Realm; the same as the others in
black. He sensed nothing else from him.
'It turns out the black cloak is used to hide one's identity and aura.' Darren now realized why they had
sensed that those men in black earlier had the same auras; it was an effect of the hooded cloak.
Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar did not hesitate, and stepped into the darkness.
They were dizzy for a short while before they gained their composure and began hearing the sound of
the sea, howling in their ears.
Faint light then shone in front of them. The light and a wind swept across their faces, the air wet and
cold and forcing their eyes closed.
When Darren opened his eyes, the sky was still pale gray and the world was still totally desolate.
What had changed though, was that the ground had now turned into a boundless dark blue sea.
Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar saw, through the huge waves, many black islands of all sizes in the
distant sea.
"What are you waiting for?"
Darren hadn't noticed that the tall, thin man in black had landed beside him.
"Uh..." Darren then snapped out of his wonderment and came back to his senses, focusing again on
what they were here for.
"Remember, don't just talk to others unless you absolutely need to. Don't use your god's power
deliberately. Basically, don't do anything unnecessarily."
"Why?"
"Seems to me that you're talking too much," complained the tall and thin man in black. He looked very
unhappy.
Darren fell silent.
He and the Rule Soul Avatar followed the tall thin man into the air, avoiding the massive waves
crashing below them. They continued on forward in midair.
As they walked, Darren's eyes fell on an island below, and the scene he saw astounded him.
On the island were many people in black. Each of them was pierced through the chest by an iron chain
as thick as a finger.
They sat cross-legged without any aura of life coming off them. If it weren't for their occasional
movements with their hands and feet, he would have thought they were all dead.
Of course, the Rule Soul Avatar had noticed this as well. Instinctively, he was about to activate his
silvery eyes to survey what was going on below.
"Stop!"
the tall thin man in black yelled at him, trying to prevent him from activating the silvery eyes.
He turned around and grabbed the Rule Soul Avatar by the collar and pulled him in close. "You broke
the rules. Do you want to die?'
The Rule Soul Avatar stared back at him cruelly, suppressing the rage building deep within him, making
sure not to reveal it.
"Humph!" The tall thin man scoffed and shoved the Rule Soul Avatar away before they continued on
ahead.
After that incident, Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar followed closely behind him, not doing anything
else but moving forward. They did not attempt to explore anymore, only glancing down at the islands
every now and then.
"We've arrived," the tall thin man announced.
He began to descend, followed by Darren and the Rule Soul Avatar.
It was a barren island, thousands of kilometers wide.
It was no different from the rest except for its larger size. There were also tens of thousands of men in
black sitting on it, their chests pierced through as well with iron chains.
It was not until Darren got closer that he discovered they appeared to be in pain.
The man led them to an open space, gesturing for them to take a seat.
Splash...
Two iron chains burst out from a protruding stone in the center of the island.
Puff!
Before they had time to react, the chains pierced through their chests and into their hearts with a wild
dart.
"Argh..."
The intense pain drained the color from Darren's face. He wanted and tried to struggle against it, but it
was in vain. The moment the iron chain penetrated his body, his strength completely vanished.
"Aaaahh!" Darren gritted his teeth and grunted low and hoarsely.
"Oh yes, I almost forgot that you're a Defiant Master." Only when he had sensed that something was
wrong did the tall thin man in black realize that Darren could not believe in anyone.
He raised his hand and waved it at Darren.
Splash...
The iron chain slid out of Darren's heart and his body and returned to its original resting place.
Once Darren had finally calmed down, the pain began to alleviate as well.
On the other hand, the tall thin man in black was surprised by the Rule Soul Avatar.
