CHAPTER 1055 FIGHT THE INNER FIEND
Darren let down his defenses and was killed at a quick flash, as he was attacked simultaneously by
dozens of half-step emperors. His body went limp and crashed to the ground!
"Hurry up! Quickly, send Darren into the passage!"
With no time to waste, a group of people hastily rushed Darren into the passage. His corpse vanished
in a flash.
"May the heavens assure his safe arrival," said Linda, choking back tears. Hope was all they could hold
onto now.
"Let us all pray for his safety," everyone murmured.
Meanwhile, in the outside world, two figures were pacing around nervously, awaiting Darren.
"It's him! He seems to be coming!" one of them suddenly shouted.
At the entrance of the passageway, Finley and the old man were waiting.
"Quick!"
Darren's corpse, devoid of aura, came flying out through the passageway.
Gusts of wind began to shift around the space focusing immediately around the corpse.
Two powerful Life True Rules were applied to the body in unison.
Shimmering green dots of light covered Darren's body. His damaged heart slowly began to rejuvenate.
After six hours, Darren finally woke up. The shock of life returning to his body had him feeling ecstatic.
"Ha-ha, I made it!" he shouted in relief. He felt like a new person. Finley, weak and sweaty from healing
Darren's body for many hours, smiled excitedly upon seeing Darren wake up.
Darren immediately got up and flew towards them.
He landed in front of Finley and the old man with a proud smile on his face.
"Good job, boy! You have made big progress in your cultivation level. Congratulations! You're a half-
step emperor now!" the old man of the Mythological Palace said with a smile. He was immensely proud
of Darren.
"This is still far from enough." Darren smiled. Then he turned to look at Finley. "Hey Finley, quit the
modesty. You didn't do so bad yourself. Now you're even higher than me in terms of cultivation level!"
"Of course I am, I've been cultivating faster than you! Let's go back and celebrate," said Finley,
chuckling. The three of them happily walked off together, ready for a celebration party.
In the great hall, many people had been anxiously waiting for many hours. Nobody could speak a word
as they were so worried about Darren.
The moment Darren walked in, the entire room burst into excited gasps and joyful tears. Amongst the
crowd, a golden figure flew over and collided right into Darren.
"Master, I missed you so much! I thought I would never see you again!" Darren couldn't breathe from
the Water Kylin's huge body knocking him onto the ground in a tight embrace.
"Get off me! I just got back to life. Are you trying to kill me a second time?" Darren said as he pushed
the Water Kylin away.
"Master, I mean, the eighteen cities were sealed and there was no way you could get out. I didn't
expect that you'd come up with such a risky yet genius plan, master. It's truly amazing!" The Water
Kylin grinned bashfully. His emotions were overflowing.
"Cut the crap. Now, go get us some wine." Darren patted the Water Kylin reassuringly.
"Yes, of course!" The Water Kylin then merrily skipped away to retrieve the wine.
"Welcome back, Darren!" There were senior holy warriors and law enforcers present, cupping their
hands in gratitude to Darren.
Darren nodded slightly and scanned the crowd, distracted. Chandler and Lord Donald were nowhere to
be found.
"Where are Chandler and Lord Donald?" he asked, confused.
"Alas," Finley sighed. His excitement dropped as he scratched his head. He wasn't sure how to break
the news to Darren. "You've missed many things in the years you were gone. Sensing the human race This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
was in danger, Master Chandler couldn't bear the worry anymore and was driven insane. He's currently
recuperating in a secret room.
As for Lord Donald, he felt terribly guilty and started to blame himself for being useless. I was worried
he would end up like Master Chandler. Before his mental state got any worse, I suggested he cultivate
in seclusion for the meantime. The Water Kylin and I have been managing the affairs of the Sacred
Palace in his place."
Darren's joy dissipated from hearing this, and was quickly replaced with deep worry.
"How could this happen? They've devoted so much to ensuring the human race's safety. What about
Scott's whereabouts? Has he returned to the Dragon Blood Clan?" Darren asked.
"No, he left for the Fire Cave just a few days ago," Finley replied. His heart wrenched when he saw
Darren's reaction.
Darren looked downcast. He knew what he needed to do now.
"I'll go help him there in a few days."
Worrying for his other comrades, Darren also asked about Mathew and Hanson. He learned both of
them were also in seclusion and would make very rare appearances as of late.
Darren's heart sank more and more as Finley shared more details with him in the great hall.
"Let's drink!" said the Water Kylin as he bursted in happily, ready with the wine.
He was surprised to return to a gloomy and silent hall. The atmosphere had turned from light and merry
to heavy and filled with worry. The Water Kylin, not knowing the reason for the change of mood,
bellowed, "My master has returned after many years. Even if the situation outside is dire, we must drink
in celebration first!"
He carefully lined up some wine glasses and filled them up one by one.
"That's right. It's great that Darren has come back. Cheers to him! Come on, now, cheers!"
"Drink. Let's drink..."
The crowd began to fill with chants and chatter as they drank together. They attempted to lighten the
mood.
Suddenly, a violent rumble shook the great hall as an explosion was heard outside.
It seemed that an extremely powerful force had exploded from a fair distance outside the palace.
"Shit, that came from a Holy Land!"
As Finley sensed it, his expression darkened. He sensed that the Inner Fiend had laid waste to one of
the forbidden areas.
Barnes was currently preoccupied with healing himself in seclusion. Who was supposed to stop the
Inner Fiend now?
"Finley, Water Kylin, follow me!" Darren also sensed the forbidden area shaking. He took the lead to
leave.
"Wait, we're coming with you." said the people of the Sacred Palace as they followed Darren out.
"What are you going to do? Get in our way?" said the Water Kylin angrily, pushing them back.
"Everyone, please wait here. We'll check up on the area and update you when we return," said Darren.
He couldn't risk their safety with the danger at hand. The next moment, Finley, the Water Kylin, and
Darren took off.
A malicious fiendish aura was emanating from the forbidden area.
The three warriors began to feel uneasy as they pushed further towards the area.
They were surprised to find a strong Witcher Power guarding the entrance. It was perfectly intact.
"What? This doesn't make any sense," Darren murmured.
They did not expect the forbidden area to look so untouched. The sound of the explosion earlier had
them expecting chaos and rubble.
"Do you think the Inner Fiend is luring us here?" Finley frowned.
With a sharp sound of electricity crackling, a golden monkey appeared from the shadows.
"Excuse yourselves, do you think you deserve to have been lured here? I wanted Barnes! Where is
Barnes?!" shouted a very annoyed Inner Fiend.
The entire reason why he had caused a ruckus was to lure the injured Barnes out and devour him.
With a strange turn of events, he'd instead lured two humans and a kylin.
"Well I didn't expect you to be alive and breathing, that's for sure." The Inner Fiend sneered at Darren.
"You're still alive. So why can't I be alive too?" Darren jeered back.
"You bastards! You've ruined my plans! Go to hell!" the Inner Fiend roared, revealing sharp tusks.
Finley looked on in horror as he sensed that they'd been completely sealed into the surrounding space.
Even if he tried using his space skills, retreat was impossible.
"I wouldn't be so confident if I were you," Darren said indifferently.
"Do you seriously believe you could win a fight against me?" The Inner Fiend sneered. He learned that
Darren was only a half-step emperor. Killing him would be as easy as crushing an ant.
Wielding a golden stick, he strode towards the three warriors.
"Water Kylin, go!" shouted Finley.
Knowing what he meant, the Water Kylin rushed out with him.
Both of them knew that Darren was new to the half-step emperor realm and might be understandably
weaker than them. They took the initiative to form a protective stance in front of Darren.
"Master, we can't hold him off for long. You must take this opportunity to escape," the Water Kylin said
anxiously.
"There's no need to panic," Darren replied.
An explosion then rang throughout the space, and the void began to shake. In a flash, the Water Kylin
and Finley were already clashing with the Inner Fiend.
