Chapter 8: Despairing Truth(Part 1)

A great wrong long ago, an entity desperately acting. Everything slipping out of her hands, these eternally branding emotions. The young woman roaming in the endless sea, carrying its immense weight. Swimming through the horrors, breaking to the surface.

A pure one in the darkness, their guiding presence. The maiden struggling in her sleep that night, gripping her beddings. Darkness shrouding her, glancing around her, her hasty heart.

"Ava!" Selica calling out, their bright smile.

"Selica..." Her vision on the child ahead.

Their close friendship with one another, a turtle toy in the small one's hand. Tears in the maiden's eyes, her slow movements to them. Shortly running to them, wanting to preserve that bond.

A shadowy figure surrounding the girl, the young woman soon stopping her movements. Horror in Ava's eyes, seeing the slim fiend grabbing the child, flying off into the distance.

"Ava! Ava!!!"

"Selica! I am coming!" her urgent voice.

Racing through the abyss, resisting these crashing tides. Bloody hands wrapping around her, the maiden ripping them away. Her quickly moving feet, yearning to save the kid. Arriving at the warehouse, seeing the fiend biting down on Selica, spilling blood in the distance.

The screeching girl, her sounds shortly no more, that falling arm. Dabria coming in, shining her light, bringing the two to the park in the daylight. Ava falling to her knees, her shaking eyes. The hazel one sadly kneeling to her companion from behind, wrapping their arms around her.

"I'm sorry that I cannot do anymore..." Dabria's low tone.

"Why...? Why is this happening...?" the maiden frustratingly pounding the ground.

"I do not know, even the Iconoclast do not have the answer. She just continuously witness one horrid thing after the next..." Resting her head on her companion's shoulder.

Never ending cruelty, a cycle constantly repeating itself. Terror forever branding, yet a way existing towards a brighter tomorrow. An entity watching from between dimensions, allowing two partners in the presence of one another.

"You mean...she just watched this happened...?" Ava's anger.

"She cannot interfere as much as you'd like. She already pulled a lot of strings to give us this chance..." Dabria's slight vision to her companion.

"What do you mean...?" the maiden glancing behind.

"Ava, the Iconoclast's presence is very dangerous. Just her being here can attract enemies, and ruin can come if she descends. There is only so much she can do without having a war break out, she tried to warn you with that vision." The girl's low tone.

"Hah...so it really was my fault, I am such a fool." Her painful grin.

An old being acting in the shadows, putting their faith in one below. Their wish to see the person's success, someone only able to remain on the side. Ava raising her hand, resting it on her partner's own. Her mind on these experiences in Inai, thinking on one thing.

"Dabria, what is truly going on in Inai? Can you tell me that?" Ava's gentle tone.

"Go to Sera tomorrow, she will have that answer. From that point, it is up to you to decide where to go." Her soft voice.

"Up to me?" looking back to her companion in confusion.

"I will keep waiting for you Ava, no matter how long it takes." The girl's warm smile to her partner.

A steadily fading realm, two moving away from one another. Ava slowly awakening from her slumber, soon sitting up in bed. Gripping her upper arm, thinking on the dream. Dabria shortly awakening, her eyes to her companion. Shortly rising up, her sad vision to her companion.

"It was my fault..." Ava lowering her head.

"Ava..." The hazel one embracing her.

"I will make no excuses. It is no different from my brother, both I could not keep with me..." Frustration from her tone.

In the end, I could not keep my brother or Selica with me. I will not deny it, I should have done more...

A great being's efforts to warn her, yet someone not responding to it. The child's echoing screams in the maiden, her crushing hope.

Her hastily beating chest, her mind on her next destination. The two shortly readying themselves for the day, soon standing outside. The young woman's low mood, her partner the same.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have been like that. This is difficult for you as well..." The maiden apologizing, her attention slightly away.

"No, I understand. Ava...it is not your fault, okay? Some things are out of our control..." Dabria looking away, holding her arm.

That is the thing, this was completely in my control...yet I did not act on it. Not until it was too late...

Sorrowfully proceeding forward, hearing the sounds in the distance. Bickering and happiness alike, those not aware on the occurrences after the setting sun. These frustrating sentiments within the maiden, individuals sticking to their lives, allowing for the madness.

The two companions walking along the sidewalk, their silence on the way. Eventually coming upon Avalon High, students going on with their day.

"Ava..." Dabria looking down, holding her upper arm.

"Don't mind me, go onto your class. I need time to think..." Facing her companion, her hand on her waist.

"Alright...try not to do anything reckless, okay...?" the girl's eyes slightly in her direction.

"Yeah...do not worry, I am not going to play into their hands...whoever is organizing this..." Ava folding her arms, her attention slightly below.

A continuously repeating situation, many blissfully chatting with one another. These two sides of Inai, the maiden steadily getting a clearer picture.

One existing in the shadows, Ava walking along her road, drawing closer to them. Dabria's hand to her chest, the girl worrying about the maiden. Watching them head on their way, wishing to do something more.

The young woman eventually finding herself at Sera's home, soon knocking on it. The shortly opening door, that woman looking at her. The goddess gripping her arms, lowering her head.

"Ava...what is wrong?" approaching the maiden, her hand on her friend's shoulder.

"S—Selica...is dead..." Her shaky voice.

"Wh—what—?!" unease from Sera.

Her constantly plaguing memories, a girl rushing out the orphanage, screaming for one to her heart. An entity unable to save them, falling into the despair in her heart. The deity on her knees in the darkness, feeling the immense weight on her shoulders.

Another kneeling behind her, wrapping their arms around her. Her vision slightly behind, seeing Dabria there. Sera urging Ava in, bringing her to the living room. The maiden sitting down on the couch, her eyes on her surroundings.

A table at the center, plants lining the corners. Some shelves with books, a fancy carpet beneath her feet. The woman seating herself at the young woman's side, embracing them.

"S—she ran all the way from the orphanage, screaming for me. She was right there...and was taken. When we got there, a demon devoured her. As a way of...drawing out my abilities...to devour me..." Tears in her eyes.

"Dale...damn, with how things are now..." The grim woman.

"My fault...it was my fault. I saw this, a vision...yet...yet I thought it was stress, and brushed it off..." Her quivering voice.

"Hey...it is okay. Sometimes, it is hard to believe what we see. Ava...I know this is hard, but I do have some bad news..." Sera's low mood.

That is the last thing I wanted to hear. Though, Dabria did say Sera will have the answer...

Two reflecting sides, secrets residing on both ends. One steadily drawing closer to her past, wrapping in its heavy pressure. Enduring the sorrow on her heart, pushing onward along her black route.

Carrying her terrible experiences, keeping her eye on a pure one in the vast stream. Sera soon handing the young woman a newspaper, Ava shortly reading it, her trembling eyes.

"Th—this has to be some kind of sick joke...!" unease from her, her shaking hands.

"I am afraid it is true, I might not look it. Though, I do have experience with programming. I created a way to the outside, and verified what I found. Ava...everyone here has been dead for fifty years..."

A neighboring conflict...poison released. An attack launching against Inai for their land and resources, this place becoming uninhabitable as a result. This...this can't be true...can it...?But...why does it feel so...?
