Bonus Scene From Desdemona/Ava:

56 Years Ago - A Single Light in the Abyss

This bright and shining day, these people from the church. I am unable to understand them, so many coming to this place. Not caring about it, my issue being with a girl, one possibly forgetting my purpose.

Folding my arms, sharply glaring at her. Seeing her uneasy expression, both of us in the quiet halls. A good opportunity, I do not wish to attract a scene.

"Tell me Dabria, do you remember my reason for being here?" my cold voice.

"To search for your brother...I remember..." Her low mood.

A good sign, we are making some head weight here. I am not certain what she sees in me, but this is a fine moment to test her.

I wonder, just how far I can push her before breaking her. Turning from her, glancing back to her. My sharp vision penetrating her own, her nervousness clear to me.

"Do you know of what I had done to achieve my goal?"

"What...are you saying...?" her hands to her chest.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

This innocent person, a strange experience with her. The further I search for my brother, the more danger that will come. A dire situation, one that she needs to grasp.

Extending my influence, darkness swirling around the halls. Watching her look around, two from the depths of blackness emerging. My unease with this, a move not part of my plan, my stern gaze on the problem.

"A—Ava..." Dabria slowly stepping away.

These echoing screams, monsters from the abyss. This not being by my command, my growing worry for the girl. Two figures approaching her, blood streaming down them.

Sounds bouncing off the walls, their claws in view. No eyes with them, those malicious entities. My vision to the girl, seeing her flee. Racing after her, those fiends pursuing her.

Shortly arriving, those two enemies backing her against the wall. Not allowing for this, negativity engulfing me, revealing my true form.

These white eyes showing once more, my long blonde hair. Black armor on me, my noble ruinous cape reaching down from the lower half of my back.

This ancient sword, those malefic scales. Standing there, seeing her in fear. Raising my hand, releasing my power.

Darkness piercing through, attracting these foes. Watching them, standing on my side. Monsters charging at me, motioning my offhand forward. Snapping my fingers, unleashing malice.

This energy shredding the surroundings, tearing apart these filth. Blood raining down, its liquid bathing me. My vision on that girl, her shaking body. Shortly walking to her, soon standing before her.

"I kill, and I continue to kill. Anything that stands in my way towards my brother, do you fully grasp this situation now? I am Desdemona, Ava is but a lie and nothing more." Folding my arms, sharply looking at her.

"A—Ava...Desdemona..." Her conflicting tone.

Guilt suddenly coming over me, seeing her like this. That pure one, doing this to her. Wondering on the reason for mentioning my identity, watching her current state, witnessing her world crashing down.

Usually I do not care for this, but there is a difference now. Thinking on my action, potentially going too far. Accepting it, my concern with her safety, one likely to leave me alone now.

"Ava, Desdemona, I do not care what your name is." Frowning, her hands on her waist.

Her surprising words, this girl acting in a different way. Expecting her to clam up, that one stepping towards me.

Stifling her fear, raising her chest. This mortal, her shining presence in the darkness. Continuously pushing forward, her fierce front.

"You always do this, trying little tricks here and there to push me away. Despite this, behind your coldness, I see warmth. I suspect, it is your way to keep me safe. Desdemona...no, Ava. Stop holding in everything, and tell me of your troubles. We will find your brother, but let's take a step back now and then." Her firm tone.

This girl constantly seeing through me, a strange one she is. Coming across her, an unlikely encounter. Living my life in sorrow, this pain inside of me. Years in torment, these experiences branding on me.

This simple life, her efforts to aid me. That one shining light in my dark world, slowly bringing down my barrier. Holding my upper arm, my vision below, Dabria continuing on.

"There is so much hatred in the way you fight. I am not saying to put yourself at risk, what I want, is for you to tone it back. I mean look at you, you are covered in blood, this is a step too far." Raising her index finger.

"Oh come now, this is the battlefield. Best to ensure your enemies are absolutely dead." Gesturing my hand to her.

Challenging her, forcing on the pressure. This innocence, I am not able to hate it. Living this way for years, trying to distance myself from others.

My response pushing her more, that girl backing me against the wall, her stern vision on me. Finding myself in an unfavorable situation, this persistent person. Two of us in this darkness, her determination to meet my line.

"You can make sure your enemy is dead, without going overboard. Promise me you will try to do better." Holding down her hands.

"Heh...you are something else. Yeah, I will try. And...sorry. I should not have been testing you..." My vision away her from her.

"You should know by now, that I am not easily dealt with." The girl's bright smile.

My intention from the start, wanting to force her away. To give her a feel for what I do, of this blackness, the lengths I will go to for my brother.

Testing her limit, this being my way to keep her safe. Her surprising direction, that girl not breaking. Her strong heart, someone confronting me. Stepping on the same domain, meeting my line, pushing me back.

Her bright personality, this one opening me more. Darkness leaving the area, her hands holding my own, my true state going away. Desdemona is my name, this girl choosing to call me Ava.

Someone standing up to me, her firm resolve, maintaining her innocence. Truly a pure one she is, an irreplaceable companion. This light in the halls, both of us soon heading off together. I listen to her as we go on, our bond growing stronger in this warmth.

Ava: I lived much of my existence alone, then you came into my life, shining light onto my path.
