Chapter 8.5: Desperate Devotion

I ran as quickly as I could, my racing mind on the possibility. An attack on Inai, many innocents suffering from its madness. That girl in my mind, hoping for her safety...

An entity choosing her direction, running back to Inai. A mistake eating away at her, leaving her companion without protection.

An enemy taking advantage of her low point, trying to push her towards their ideal. A goddess refusing him, forcing onward with her own path.

Desdemona eventually making her way back to the town, seeing the chaos this afternoon. Rubble everywhere, windows in pieces, cars and tables upside down.

A thick purple poisonous gas in the air, her hasty vision from one end to the next. Some soldiers confronting her, aiming their weapons at her.

"Dammit! Out of my way!" lunging at them.

Their sounding weapons, madness on the battlefield. Blood spilling along the land, the deity shortly standing straight. Her mind on her companion's location, trying to narrow down the possibilities.

Soon shaking her head from left to right, hurrying onward. Her mind on the time of the day, making her way to the shopping district. Ava shortly arriving in the area, numerous bodies on the ground, some in pieces.

A peaceful place in a horrific state, the deity recognizing many of them. Those bright individuals, Dabria helping countless. Their warm smiles, helping the maiden integrate into a more normal life.

Her paining heart, seeing this massacre. Soon finding her way to Sasha and Lily, the two weakly on the land, blood soaking their bodies. The goddess kneeling to them, lowering her head.

"Sasha, Lily. Sorry, I should have been here..." Biting her lower lip.

"A--Ava? Ava...you have to go to the church...that's where Dabria would be..." Lily's weak voice.

"I'll get you both to somewhere safe first." Desdemona's eyes to her.

"Don't bother...we're good as dead, just save Dabria..." Sasha's hand on the maiden's own.

I could do nothing but watch, in the end, I am truly powerless to do anything. These people, who gave me a new life, a home to belong. If only I had not left...

A deity once alone, standing in the abyss. A pure one coming in, extending her hand, shining light into the maiden's black world. Unable to do anything, watching two close to her pass away. Shortly rising to her feet, holding in her sorrow.

Her destination in mind, racing to the location. Fighting her way through the soldiers, crushing their tanks, sounding her soul.

Eventually arriving at the church, someone blocking her way. A general in his middle age looking at her, his suspicious eyes.

"Unless you are equipped like us, none should be able to withstand this poison. What are you?" aiming his firearm at the maiden.

"That is not important. Why did you attack Inai?" her serious vision on him.

"Their land, as well as their resources. It is simply survival." His cautious stance.

"And the damage done here, at the current rate this entire town will be worthless. You are simply sick." Extending her dark sword afar.

An attack on Inai, foes greatly damaging the land. The goddess observing it, seeing its hasty deterioration. Pushing it out of mind, keeping her vision on her goal.

An entity needing to find her partner, little time remaining with her. Her moving feet, the sounding gunfire from the man.

Deflecting his assaults, closing in the distance. Quickly lunging at him, a person immediately flipping her to the ground. Instantly aiming his weapon at her, rapidly firing down.

The young woman's stretching darkness, enduring the barrage. His shaking eyes, seeing her rise to her feet.

"Clever, using my weight against me, but a mistake like that will not be made again." Ava rushing at him, grabbing his neck.

"You...are not human...!" scowling at her.

"Correct, I am a goddess. And you have killed my friends, and endangered my companion. In death, you will continue to scream." Glaring at him.

Precious individuals to her heart no more, one still out there. The deity's immense anger, slamming the general to the land.

His hands gripping her wrist, trying to break her hold. Soon shifting his angle, stabbing at her head with a knife. Unable to penetrate her skin, his increasing fear.

Desdemona raising her sword, reflecting the man's face. Cutting down, hacking away at his limbs, hearing his shrills. Shortly rising, the maiden moving the bloody body high.

"Now, the crows will feast on you."

Deep anguish on him, looking into those terrifying white eyes. The deity's stretching malice, forming countless crows. Trying to plead with her, no sounds leaving his mouth.

The young woman's paining heart, her displaying anger. Throwing him high, the many birds swarming the man. Ripping away at him, his loud screams in the air.

Desdemona shortly facing the stairs to the church, soon running up its length. Bursting through the door, this place in ruin, many corpses around. Some enemies there, her sharp eyes on them.

"Where is she?!" swinging out her arm.

"Probably dead by now down there." One devilishly pointing below.

"You really have no idea the type of hell you just brought upon yourselves...!" her angrily distorting tone.

Revealing her true voice, shaking her foes. Her increasing pressure, blanketing the area in a sinister darkness. The enemies firing weapons, hitting nothing in the abyss.

Their shortly sounding screams, blood washing away in the endless void. The clearing negativity, that maiden standing amongst numerous pieces. Fury in her gaze, her great malice.

Every moment that passed, my fear grew. Standing in the abyss, my eyes on Dabria getting further away. My moving feet, running after her, desperately screaming out to her...
