Chapter 87 – Curses
----------------------------------------
Ramiel went back to the guild after his spell learning.
He knew that there might be injured people again on the guild, and as he enters the guild. He indeed saw lines of people bleeding.
Taking a seat on one of the tables, Ramiel started his treatment. One by one, the fighters approached him for healing. As he does his healing one of the fighters asked him for a pill. Not knowing what that means, he asked the patient what it is.
According to the fighter who he asked, the pill is usually something that they can take to lessen the pain. It is more of a painkiller. Knowing that Ramiel went around the guild to ask about where he can get the painkillers. Dall, who was at the receptionist counter, got asked.
“Hey Dall, is there a place where I can get some pill? Most of the guys that I tend to are asking for it.”
“Oh that?” she touched her lip, “Just visit Sheriwn's Shop and he can hook you up with some”
“I see. I owe you one Dall.”
“No problem.” she strangely fidgets in reply.
Ramiel then left the guild in search for this Sheriwn. The street was cold due to the fall season. The gusts carry leaves and the other half of the city was covered in a mist of dust. Lugenstan City is half covered in desert sand while the other half is coated in greenery.
Men and women still drown the street as usual.
The Children’s play on the stone road but they don’t run around in the city with all the guards around.
Ramiel scoured the city of Lugenstan for this Sheriwn. He somehow managed to find him in a shop that has a signboard that says ‘Palarca’ on it. Entering this shop he met the owner who is about as tall as him.
Black hair, thin face, skinny, eye bags under his eyes, messy hair.
Ramiel thought that he looks sleepless.
He greeted him and asked for the painkillers.
“Painkillers...so is that what they call these pills these days?”
“I just call them that. It lessens the pain so technically it should be that right?”
“True, I like it, let us call this as painkillers now.”
Sheriwn’s shop has shelves all over the place. Flasks containing liquid, herbs, containers, small ring sized boxes, bottles, and instruments. He searches around his shelves until he finally took out a bottle containing small pills.
“Here you go. It will cost a lot as usual. I can offer you a discount since you look in pain. As for obtaining the recipe, forget about it. Also, would like for some anti-curses? Your leg smells like it got hit.”
“What do you mean by Anti-curse?” Ramiel knitted his brows.
“Really now, can’t you see that leg of yours is pretty cursed? Even without seeing it I could smell the hex on your leg. Who curse you?”
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“Hex...” Ramiel’s went dim as he thought. “I never thought about it, but can you get infected by a curse?”
“Maybe, curses are much more complex than miracles. They can string together and even affect your fate if you got afflicted. The curse on you seems to have wrapped around your leg already. Because if didn’t then you wouldn’t be limping.”
“So are you saying it cannot be removed?”
“You can always cut your leg. But that would too problematic.” Sheriwn held his chin in thought. “The anti-curses and the pill can help you become less limp. But other than that, I doubt that you can fix that leg now. It is even worse than the Argo’s Curse.”
“Argos Curse...” Ramiel muttered.
“Yes, the Argos Curse, the curse that a millennia worth of wealth and alchemists couldn’t even cure. Maybe you can go to the kingdom of Lin and try asking for what cure they did.”
“Cure?”
“Maybe you can ask them. But the Argos house is busy now you know? I heard that the lady is now constantly hounded by the magus and alchemy guild. I guess you could say that after years of suffering, the Argos bloodline finally gets its peace”
“So does this mean that my leg has no hope?”
“Who knows? You may find one or you may not. But do not be down you can always at least lessen the curse’s affliction. As long as you take the pills and anti-cursers then it might work out for you.”
“I see...”
Ramiel’s mood went downhill as he continues to listen to Sheriwn. Taking the gourd of ale on his waist, he drank. Sheriwn noticed his customer’s sullen expression and thought that he might have talked that out harshly. But nonetheless, that was the reality and Sheriwn doesn't have any reason to butter it up for him.
The Truth hurts more than a lie.
Ramiel suspected that there might be something weird happening on his leg. Now he learned the problem, it pains him a bit.
It is a spiral of emotion.
Depression, frustration, and anger filled him.
He thought that maybe he got ‘afflicted’ by the curse that the lady Argos have. But thinking about it further, Ramiel cannot find any reason why would they bother to afflict him with a curse. He knows that he is just some lame nobody.
Ramiel doesn’t know how the curse works too, and because of that, he cannot think of any further reason why they would even curse him.
In his mind, the Lady Argos helped him how to read and write the language of the land. So it is out of his belief that she would do something like that. He also thought that Gundry was someone hospitable, he also helped him too and he just couldn’t suspect them.
He wanted to ask them some questions. But with the Kingdom of Lin being far away, Ramiel can only clench his fist in frustration.
Happy thoughts left Ramiel.
He wanted to go home already so he bought the anti-curses and painkillers. He then thanked Sheriwn and left his shop. While walking on the road, Ramiel walks with his leg throbbing.
He was in pain.
