Chapter 66 - Dead Man Walking

Chapter 66 - Dead Man Walking

----------------------------------------

Ramiel happily chatted with the non-humans without any hint of discrimination in his eyes, he told them about the way he got into the prison, and their reaction?

"Bullshit"

"Bullshit"

"Total bullshit":

"KAKAKAKHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA"

Ramiel merely laugh with his gourd. He told them his exploits in an overly exaggerated manner, yet in the end the non-humans were too clever for that. They saw through Ramiel's lies, and honestly, if it wasn't for Leone doubting Ramiel's story, especially when he told the 'super' soldier part,  which made Leone ask with a straight face.

"Didn't you tell me that you weren't a soldier."

And after that, Ramiel's lie fell apart like a pile of brick. Ramiel is quite good at acting, his way of telling lies is also quite believable, and if it wasn't for Leone, then he would have gotten away with it.

"Now, really, for it all to be a lie, how disappointing human" said the Dwarf

The campfire's light shone upon the silver haired elf as she said. "Indeed it is, but it was fun enough."

"Come on now guys, half it was the truth! At least the part where I smashed the throats of the two motherfuckers. Though in the beginning, the way I defeated fifteen men was obviously bullshit. I can't believe you guys fell for it though."

The Halflings that has been listening could not help but look at each other and say. "You guys huh..."

They couldn't believe Leone at first but now, it seems that Ramiel really doesn't care about the fact that they are non-humans.

"Hohoho, well how about more ale friend?" said the Dwarf.

"OH! Thank you for that man!"

"How uncaring..." said the silver haired elven.

"By the way friend, you don't seem that bothered that you are talking to non-humans like us."

"I should be?  if so why?" Ramiel said.

"Because that is how it usually goes with humans." said the halflings.

"Oh is that so? Don't worry about me, I am too miserable to be racist, and besides, back home I always see much more beautiful sorts of non-humans like you being pointed and instructed on a magical window." Ramiel said, while thinking of the fantasy MMO's he played during his free time.

The Non-humans heard Ramiel's reply, they thought that that there was no lie in Ramiel's part.

"That's great human..." said the Dwarf, poking the campfire.

Ramiel folded his hands in front of his chest.

"I mean, people should be rated base on who they are, unlike there race. For example, back in my days, I always see some people who calls people subhumans, people who are lesser than humans. But sometimes, even those 'people' would tell certain 'subhumans' that they aren't that mainly because of their self-determination, will and perseverance of not letting anyone keep them down. They prove their self-worth, and even a piece of shit like me gets moved. Thus, that is my excuse of why I don't care...although I may have prejudices, it depends on the person's self worth." Ramiel smiled wearily, thinking that he should apply what he said to himself too.

"Nice words human..." the silver haired complimented Ramiel, while bumping her elbow at Leone. A seemingly mysterious smile floated upon the silver-haired elven's face, Leone could not help but sigh at the look of the lady.

"Very well then!" One of the halfling suddenly wrap an arm around Ramiel's shoulder. Ramiel did likewise and the two started singing, drinking with the ale in hand.

The Dwarf look at the two, before smiling. The Silver Haired elven also was quite amused and joined. Leone who was watching also decided to joined in.

...

Midnight, in the oasis in the middle of the Trapolstan desert, the camp that was set up got a bit quieter. Everyone was smart enough to take a rest, with the desert still vast and wide, the travels will be hectic. Who knows when will they see another oasis again, so this time everyone took a rest. Well, except for one who is still awake in the middle of the night.

After the fun they had with the non-humans, Ramiel and Leone separated, not even leaving their names behind. It is a tradition on the Trapolstan desert ,no one tell names, simply because it is believe to cause bad luck. Ramiel, was kind of sad not to hear their names, and oddly for him, the effects of the alcohol wore off. He didn't know but, due to that he is now suffering in pain.

Damn, the alcohol really helps...

The effects of the alcohol made Ramiel feel less pain. He has been suffering the infection on his throat, the swelling of his wrist, and the black marked spots on his right leg that makes him limp. He doesn't know what to do with it, and without any modern doctors, he is helpless.

To ease the pain, he has been drinking gourds of ale. Sometimes, his ailments would not hurt, sometimes it would hurt that he feels like dying. And now, in an odd tree that looks like a mutation of a pine and a coconut tree, Ramiel shivers in pain.

Cringing, with a pained expression, Ramiel keep to himself that he is in pain. He is sucking it up, not letting anyone see this weakness. It makes him want to insane, but Ramiel has decided to clench his asshole, and dare not let anyone take a pity on him.

Alone, alone and alone.

He kinda getting used to it by now.

Ramiel isn't really complaining anything, he learn how to accept his fate. He thought that it is better to give himself a peace of mind than a head filled with worries.

Cheers to me then?

With a self accepting smile that welcomes death, Ramiel lift his gourd up to the air, toasting for the life that he has until the death sentence comes.

He knows it by heart, that if his condition keeps up, he wouldn't live long.

But you know what? Ramiel decided to live free and die screaming.

He at least want to enjoy whatever life he has in this world.

It may sound pessimistic, but Ramiel has told himself to just do it.

Not knowing anything at all, Ramiel determined himself while battling with his fears.
