Chapter 166 – Journal Entry 16: Open Sea Gears

----------------------------------------

In the big open sea life can be a bit strange. All day I could only stare at the faint reddish hue with a tint of blue water that house over thousands of fishes. Different in shape and sizes, the clear water provided entertainment other than smoking a cigar.

The sea is huge and wide. It made me feel small and sometimes the fishes under the seat that can sometimes be bigger than the buildings in Soren makes me sweat. I guess this is fear. But it could be more like bewilderment anyway about such creatures.

My eyes are reflected in the clear sea. It was like a mirror that allows me to see through under it. It was amazing, the feeling of seeing such wide world under me. The Elven that is with me seems to enjoy the nature of the sea too. At first, I thought Miss Leona and Miss Tisza would be bothered by the wide sea. But in contrary they were quite adaptable to change, they even smile at the sight of the wonderful fishes. They were like little girls that somehow find a new little thing to enjoy.

They already saw the sea but even so, they enjoy it. Technically for me, this is my time seeing the wide open sea that is a blue like this. It reminded me of the Caribbean Sea, or whatever that place is. If it wasn’t for the shade of red that gives the sea a red layer then this would be a much more beautiful view.

“Enjoying the trip?”

I looked behind me only to see Elena wearing a rather revealing outfit. Her stomach was clearly seen, wearing pants that reveal her thighs, while clearly showing off her shoulder blades, and her soft white neck. Though she is quite a disappointing in the bust area which is covered with a tube top, Elena was quite beautiful, however.

“And looks like the trip isn’t the only one you’re enjoying.”

“I believe that it is impolite not to appreciate the beauty.”

“Thank you then.”

She shed a bit of shyness. Quite cute, I may say.

“Well, I am enjoying myself. How is Grom?”

“Uncle Grom is doing fine, as long as he steps into the light.”

“Whoa, isn’t that kind of bad?”

“Of course I am not speaking about the light you see at death’s door! I am speaking about the light that should help him when we arrive in Fernery!”

“Light, excuse me Elena, but have you forgotten that I am well, never been on the island?”

“I believe Miss Elena refers to Mefinami’s Light. The Light that blesses the island far from the harms of the Sanctus curse that erodes the world, such light is considered a divine blessing from the Goddess Mefinami who once sang a song of spirits with her arch dragon on top of the island.”

“That is quite something.”

“Not really, there are many islands similar that is considered holy so it is nothing new. I believe the Elven lands or at least the capital is blessed by Faeria right?”

“Indeed, the Capital and the Holy Forest of the Elven lands have not succumbed to the Sanctus Curse. But even so, some parts of our land fell mainly because of how close the former dark elven lands are. So I am guessing that Fernery Island and her oceans wouldn’t be troubled by the red light.”

“The four shrines wouldn’t allow the light to enter anyway. With the blessing of Mefinami and the four shrines constantly releasing spirits and lumen, then it wouldn’t be a problem.”

Although I somehow just wanted to ask Grom’s condition, I got myself taught about divine blessings, the light and the lumens that are a wisp of creation that according to the two measures the nutrients of the land through estimating the Leylines.

Fernery Island is rich with Leylines and is only second to a city called Tal who has quite a rich Leylines channel. The Elven land could not be called a rich Leylines point mainly because their Leylines are far different from the others, making it a different case.

The two continued talking to each other discussing and comparing Fernery Island and The Elven lands. It seems that aside from a Golem creator. Elena was an enthusiast when it comes to Leylines due to most of the golems or at least their circuits worked like Leylines Vein.

I was far too uninformed at the two’s discussion so I retreated back inside the ship. There are four levels of the ship. The first one where the deck and cabin are located, the second level is where some of the rooms like the kitchen are located while the third level is where people sleep. The fourth level of the ship, the last hull is where the engines and storage are.

Grom’s room is located on the fourth hull. I don’t know but when I arrive in the engine room and saw all the gears there made me want to stay there too. It is loud with all the steam blowing off and the rotating gears in place but it still is a wonder seeing how mechanism turns.

Grom seems off his feet but he was still eyeing the hydraulic press pumping water to a tube where it then turns into a steam. I could see that there a huge core ingrained with a crest of magic lines that somehow releases enough heat to turn water into steam.

I watched for a while. Grom who was watching noticed me but ignored me as we watched the turning gears and the pumping of metal of the engine. In here I could not feel the sea. Maybe this is why Grom is here. And despite the loud noise, I feel a bit calm here.

Ah, the wonders of rotating gears, the white steam, the magic lines and finally the sound of metal pumping together making these odd sounds is quite the best. Because of this I unknowingly stared at the engine of the ship. Like a kid who never saw such machinery before.
