Chapter 144 – Will of Protection 4

----------------------------------------

When Ramiel fainted, black veins sprouted all over his body. His eyes whitened and he was utterly convulsing. Seeing this, Peronell tearfully called out help towards the bishop. When the bishop saw Ramiel, he detected the malediction on his body.

“What is happening to him?”

“He has no magical defenses. It means that curses are easily attracted to him!”

“Are you saying?”

“Yes! - Please help him!”

The Bishop was quite the smart man. He noticed that the curse wasn’t in the open fields and now seeing this convulsing young man, he knew that this child loved by curses attracted the curses, forming into a malignant malediction.

“Let’s have the captain sent him to a room. You are quite brilliant in your deeds today, and I am expecting more of you today young lady.”

The Bishop didn’t hesitate to say those words. He needed Peronell’s strength at the moment to save the various folks on the small fort until the King and his inquisition could defeat the undead girdled dragon trying to make the City into its layer.

Peronell understood the Bishop’s words yet she agreed. She could use her power to negotiate better. The shaking of the land still did not stop, but it was faint enough for the small fort made of stone to endure. The Bishop called out to the Captain and ordered for a room. The captain was a worshiper of light, so he attended to the Bishop’s needs without questioning it.

Following that they carried Ramiel into one of the soldier’s room. It was vacant with most of the soldiers that defended on the first wave died. The battle outside wasn’t stopping either and only through the efforts of the priests, nuns, and mages that they somehow fortified the fort. The mages brought up an earth wall, to support the fort while the holy men and women of the Church crafted a barrier openly supplied with the energy of the world. It required two priests and two nuns but it was worth doing despite the effort.

The Situation outside was still chaotic, it would take weeks to assess the damage done to the city. The Warp gates that summons the Grim were still around. So the situation being in control would take a while. This is only the beginning and they had no choice but to endure it.

The Bishop arrived along with Peronell in the room. The Bishop started healing Ramiel he was susceptible to healing due to his zero magical so the Bishop did not have it hard to calm his nerves down. But after healing Ramiel, the Bishop inspect his body, making his brows knit.

“His insides are slowly turning that of ebony wood, this curse is simple no curse at all anymore...I doubt anyone could ever remove this unless they have God’s light!”

“Is that so?”

Peronell had quite a sour face as he stares at Ramiel’s condition. He grew his fingers back yet it was more of ebony wood and was harder than metal. She heard of curse once, a curse that covers the skin with another layer. This was the curse Ramiel got when the Sanctus curse activated. Adding to that, this curse of his got a buff as his right arm mutated along with it.

“You seem unfazed.”

“I am hurting...but I cannot cry, seeing him like this.”

“Are you his lover?”

“Yes...maybe, I am kind of it now that I think about it.”

Peronell said those words with a slight bit of laugh. If Ramiel heard her words right now, he would have cried in happiness and sadness. It would be too sad for Ramiel. So luckily he didn’t hear words.

“I see...he should be fine for now. I have things to care outside. I hope you can join us when your mana has recovered.”

“Thank you, Bishop...”

“It is nothing. I am a mere servant of light doing his job. Rest well, and take care of the poor lad.”

The Bishop went out of the room leaving Peronell and Ramiel alone. Ramiel wasn’t waking up he was still a bit cringing in pain, unable to stop shivering. Peronell saw his condition, and looking at him, she caressed his head, patting it.

“It’s okay...I am here, don’t worry.”

Peronell comforted Ramiel. As she does, she could see the slight scars around his scalp, it was due to the boiling water poured on him back in Tinople. He also had scars on his arms. His neck and there was a slight lump in his throat.

Peronell could see that there were signs of torture on his body. When she compared his arms, she noted that his right wasn’t looking great. Ramiel suffered a permanent dislocation during the time he was dragged around everywhere, treated like a dog until he got thrown into Tinople.

Ramiel’s life in this world wasn’t a smooth sailing. He encountered a few reliefs, yet he wasn’t truly at peace until he somehow got himself into Sardis. And even getting into Sardis, he had to be cruel. Ramiel wasn’t great in coping, his madness was one of the reasons that he has come far. His a coward, yet due to this uncaring, suicidal and violent tendencies lately that he somehow got a bit better in facing the world, it was a detrimental thing to him, yet despite all of that finding himself into Sardis, getting in banter with Peronell made him a bit better.

Peronell was a foolish woman. Even though she could find herself a good man, she fell in love with one that is loved with curses. At first, it was a man with a magnetic charm. And now she is attached to someone like Ramiel. She thought that she should find herself a better one, yet somehow the banter's she shared with him and how brazen he can be sometimes made her fall. Ah, she thought of herself as an idiot, looking back at the mental image of Ramiel’s resolute face.

“Damn it...you better not mope around and complain about this.”

Foolish as she was, Peronell couldn’t help it. Despite all of the negative traits Ramiel had, she decided to forget about it is simply because she can. It might sound an insult but she preferred people weaker than her and that she can take care off.

So for the first time since coming to this world, Ramiel finally got lucky. Someone actually got fond of him, despite his conditions.
