Chapter 74 - First Patient
----------------------------------------
The day after he joined the fighter's guild Ramiel went to his office in the guild. It was a small office that has a desk, a table, and rows of books. Behind the chair is a window that if looked, could overview the city’s houses. The office has a small room that could allow the member of the guild to rest. It has a closet and a small bed that is stuffed by sheep fur.
Ramiel decided that he might as well use this place as a room. He didn’t have enough money at the moment, despite the fact that he was handsomely rewarded by the events of Tinople City. So he decided to be frugal and endured the overbearingly small room.
It was morning when Ramiel decided to finally work on his office. His room is literally just a door away so he wasn’t that adamant in hurrying up. He sat upon his brown carved chair that looks rather moderate for a chair. He reclined on the chair and was about to close his eyes when he heard a knock on the door.
Ramie opened his eyes and told whoever is outside his door to wait. Standing up first, he strides to the door, opened it and saw a blonde haired young man with messy hair. He was an inch smaller so Ramiel looked down upon this young man.
“What can I do for you?”
“You the new doc right, if so can you patch up my hand Doc?”
Ramiel looked down and saw the burned hand of the young man. It smelled like it got roasted, and judging by the smell of iron and furnace he is giving, Ramiel deduced that this young man is a blacksmith.
“Sure, just sit down on the chair and let me see your hand.”
Ramie instructed the young man. He wasn’t a registered physician but he knew how to do some first aid. Heck, the school he was attending was so gung-ho about drills that even an underachiever like him could remember the instructions. Also healing magic.
“A second-degree burn and a few lacerations on your backhand, quite an injury you have here?”
“Eziel’s the name Doc; looks like you know what you are doing?”
“This is basic stuff. Also, please grit your teeth or if you have any cloth, bite it. I am going to disinfect your burned hand, to avoid infection.”
“Infection, what’s that? Also, what’s with the alcohol?”
He saw Ramiel opening a gourd filled with alcohol.
“I need it to disinfect your hand, or would you like to prefer for your hand amputated due to infection?”
“Why is that necessary? Just heal me with your healing spells!”
“I am just trying to make it safe. Uh, just grit your teeth.”
“Oka-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
Eziel’s mouth open as Ramiel poured the alcohol on his hand. It is whiskey, so it has quite an ethyl alcohol in it compared to just ale.
“Hold up, let me numb it for you.”
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Ramiel extended his left palm and freeze the excess alcohol on Eziel’s hand. With the ice numbing his hand, Eziel managed to suck up the pain and quiet down. With that done, Ramiel opened his right and created a sphere made of soft orange light.
“Ah, that really tickles doc...”
“Really huh...” Ramiel said.
“By the way Doc, it hurts now. Why is that?”
“It’s magic how the fuck should I know?” Ramie spat.
“Eh, is there any explanation you can give then?”
“I don’t really know...” Ramiel said.
He thought for a while before sighing.
“You do the healing but you don’t understand how it really does that?”
“I don’t really know, but I have to guess then this healing spell that is considered as ‘miracle’ is helping the destroyed tissues on your hand to regenerate faster. You see, there are cells on your hand or something, and through using this healing spell I am accelerating the healing process.” Ramiel said in one breath. “So how about that for an explanation?”
“What’s a cell?”
“It makes up your body. Like ten gold coins won’t be ten gold coins if it lacks one coin.”
“Eh...that is a bit vague.”
“How tiresome...”
Ramiel felt annoyed at this young man. He kept silent as he focused the healing spell until the wounds and laceration on his hand slowly disappeared. Eziel raised his hand the moment the wounds went away he wriggled his fingers and said.
“Wow, looks good and new.”
“Well, it's magic,” Ramiel said as he looked at the healed hand of Eziel. It has been months since he learned such miracle and it stills impressed him.
“Thanks, doc, also can you help me get the ice off my hand?”
“Sure...” Ramiel said while producing a torch like flame on his left palm. He could not muster any true offensive magic but the elemental bracer he looted on Tinople city do him well.
“That’s some elemental bracer there...though I never saw it being used that way.”
“Really?”
“Yes, since it's mostly used as a fire starter or a tool for high-class people who cannot cast basic spells. Why used it?”
“You said it yourself, I can’t into basic spells.”
“I see...why?”
“You ask a lot of questions. Don’t you have to work on your forge or something? Not thinking about the people that you might bother?”
“If you put it that way...” Eziel wearily smiled at Ramiel’s words.
“Then you should go...I still have documents to sort. I am new here you know?” Ramiel said as an excuse.
“True...then see you soon doc!”
“Hey don’t ‘soon’ me. Try not to get yourself burn again for fuck’s sake.”
“Okay, okay!”
Saying that, Eziel stood up and turned to the door, he waves his hands at Ramiel as he disappears without even closing the door. Seeing the door wide open, Ramiel went to it and slowly closed it. After closing the door, he went to his chair, reclined and took a sharp breath.
It seems that his days in the fighter guild are going to be tiresome after all.
