Chapter 83 – Lurking Barbarians

----------------------------------------

The barbarian ran straight to the direction of the window. Ramiel, who expects things to happen due to his own fear already casted a binding spell and was about to hit the barbarian with it. When suddenly, one of the fighters, lashes out a long chain, with a spearhead and stab it right in the barbarians back. With one single pull, the barbarian got lifted into the air, and the archers who were able to notch their arrows fired point blank at the barbarian, skewing the barbarian in mid-air.

The barbarian fell on the floor with a loud thud. Ramiel’s heart palpitated loudly. Outside he looks calm but internally he is a mess. He scanned the surroundings out of fear and there he saw a patch of shadows and the sound of something breaking the wind.

One keen-eyed fighter noticed this and shouted:

“BONE ARROWS EVERYONE TAKE COVER”

With that single shout, almost everyone in the guild rolled to the ground. Ramiel who heard that immediately acted out of fear. He in panic muttered the incantation and clasps his hands together in order to activate it. A bone arrow about the size of an arm then shot through the walls of the fighter’s guild. Everyone took cover, and Ramiel who was about to roll in the ground tripped, and accidentally he trips at the direction where Dall is, unintentionally deflecting the bone arrow away from her.

The Arrow hit his wooden backpack. With the protection spell on, he was able to deflect the arrow out of Dall’s direction. The Impact, however, scratched his backpack and made him fall to the ground. Arrows continued to shot through the interior of the guild.

Ramiel opened his eyes. He saw that in the middle the guild master is surrounded by a blue aura that somehow deflected the bone arrows. With a swing of his hand, the bone arrows got crushed.

The rain of arm-length arrows finally stopped. Silence came over inside the guild. Panting, and groaning then sounded out as if, the danger has passed. The Guild Master, however, did not calm down. With a shout, he immediately ordered the fighters to pursue after the attackers.

Ramiel took a deep breath as he stood up, as he calms the storm inside his mind. Everyone was either injured or shocked at what happened, so in order to shake the fear, the fighters started to get their act together. Ramiel also took action. He saw Dall still lying on the floor, so he extended his right hand to her.

“Are you okay Miss Dall?”

“Thank you...for saving me.”

“I did?”

“Yes!”

Ramiel tilted his head in question. He never knew he did something like that, but since Dall said so, he brushes it off and said:

“It is nothing really. Also, can you help me deal with the injured?”

“Of course I will!” Dall said with a rosy flush on her cheeks.

Ramiel nodded his head at that reply. Looking around the guild, he walks to one of the injured and started doing what he was hired for.

...

The Guild got hit by the barbarian scouts. The Guild Master and his fighters chased after the barbarians and brought them down. With the Guild Master taking the lead it was an obvious result.

The attack immediately spread all over the city.

The Militias rounded up everyone. And the governing officers of the military immediately took action by sealing the gates. Guardsmen surrounded the upper walls of the city.

Patrols were littered everywhere.

In just five hours the whole city of Lugenstan went into a lockdown.

The surprise attack caught the fighter’s guild by surprise. They would have never thought that the barbarians would reach this far up the northwest of the continent.

Either one thing happened.

Either the Kingdom of Deus has fallen which is unlikely.

Or Al-Goraz and his keen barbarians have found another way inside the continent.

Either way, the reality that there are barbarian scouts is there.

If it was the normal barbarians then it would be simply nothing unusual. But with the barbarians being identified as part of Al-Goraz’s Barbarian War band, it changes a whole lot of things.

Barbarians are usually stronger than the common humans due to their upbringing in the savage lands. They rely on brute strength and numbers. But for the barbarians that belong to the Al-Goraz faction. They possessed the ability to do tactics, unlike the usual reckless charge they do.

So when it comes to the Al-Goraz faction the nations of Hillines is a bit wary. His Warband consists of a million in total, and that doesn’t count the scouts they deploy. How Al-Goraz manages to keep his barbarians fed and alive is a mystery to all.

No one knows anything other than the name of his, and the Warband of barbarians he commands.

...

Back in the guild, the fighters are trying to take things back to normal. The injured laid one single part of the guild. Ramiel, along with the fighting healers made use of their healing spells to take care of the injured. Blood, gore and things like that are over everywhere.

Ramiel wiped the sweat off his brow.

The smell of blood entered his nose. If it wasn’t for the fact that he drank some ale already. He would be a bit uncomfortable now. Also, he has a smoke on his mouth to ward off the smell. It helped in making him not take in the scent of blood.

“That’s done.”

Ramiel finished healing one of the fighters. He looks at his rolled cigar and took out another one. He didn’t like the air in the guild so he decided to smoke another one.

He didn’t have anything else to help inside the guild so he excused himself out. Outside, he saw the armored fighters looking around heavily with a cold glare in their eyes.

Seeing that, Ramiel thought things will get rough from now on.

But instead of worrying, Ramiel decided to go home for now.
