Chapter 27 – Delayed Fear

----------------------------------------

In the gates of the town of Tal, two armored guards holding spears on their hands have their eyes tracing Ramiel. Following Ramiel with their eyes, they stared at his blood soaked right hand. The guards thought that he might have met something bad out there. And as the two pairs of eyes scanned Ramiel, they found out that aside from the rather wide open eyes of his. He doesn’t seem to be injured. The Guards thought what might have happened to him, but since they know that Ramiel is a ‘dumb mute’. They let him passed without speaking a word towards him.

Ramiel noticed the stares of the guards but ignored it. He is currently in a state of shock. When he was facing that dire wolf, his mind blanks out and in fear, he immediately thought of doing those actions to survive. His mind went one track on him, and since the trauma of being unable to move during the cruise ship accident made Ramiel scared. It did him a bit of favor and he was able to survive through that fear.

Now that he is out of that danger, Ramiel felt his legs trembling. Standing in the middle of the street, the eyes of the onlookers stared at the wobbling Ramiel.

Ramiel at the moment felt like he could vomit all of the food he ate. He remembered those fierce eyes, the long fangs, and the sharp claws of the dire wolf. It made him tremble and as he stiffens up. He held his swollen throat and pointed his eyes towards an alleyway. He wobbly walk there and escaped from the eyes of the locals.

He let his back slid up on the wall. He sat on the ground, held up his hand to his head. Grabbing his hair, Ramiel stared blankly on the ground panting. His breath ragged, eyes with a roll of tears. Ramiel, who escaped the dire wolf, felt the fear engulfed him.

A delayed sense of fear, cause by being distress at the face of danger. Ramiel was only able to do all of those things was because of his mind blanking out. When he blank out, his fight or flight instincts came hard and he was able to somehow escape through his last luck.

Ramiel is only acting this way because he managed to calm down. When he got out of the forest, all he could think of was to get inside the gates. So when that single goal of his got fulfilled. He now faces the drawbacks of being able to think what he just encountered.

Ramiel’s breathing got even more ragged. As his right hand was bloody, it stained his hair red. He looked deranged if he is seen by others. But since he is in a dark alleyway of a street, no one really noticed him. The locals who are walking on the street didn’t even hear his ragged breathing.

Ramiel still panted heavily. As he his trembling slowly subsides, he raised his head up and stared at the sky. His eyes flickered as it reflects the clouds up in the sky. The rays of the sun shined upon his eyes, and with the sun’s light being too bright, he squinted.

Ramiel calmed down, a bit. He took a long exhale as he reclined on the wall. His mind wavered for a while. He thought of the dire wolf that would have killed him.

If I didn’t blank out and pulled out my camera. I wouldn’t have been able to stab that monster. I was lucky, but now that I think about it. Will I ever be lucky next? I don’t know how to feel about this. This is something that I scared to think about!

Ramiel felt scared at the prospect of encountering another kind of monster like that. He knows that he might not get lucky next.

I got truly lucky this time. But if fetching things for that lady will take me to such dangers then it isn’t worth it at all. I rather work in the docks or endure the hard work on the Inn. It is not worth to risk my life, just so that I can buy something that prolongs it.

Ramiel concluded in his head. There was no use to risking his life for money that he needs to heal himself.

I can always work on the Inn. I am safer there, and I am getting paid. This pain on my throat might get severe, but it still better than getting stared down by a monster.

With that thought in mind. Ramiel stood up from the ground and shook his hand. He tried to remove the blood on it, but it seems to be sticking quite well. He felt the stickiness on his head and sighs. He looked to his right, then to his left. Ramiel took a deep breath before thinking.

I should take the flower back to the lady. The flower better is worth it, and I hope they pay well. I really need that medicine to cure my swollen throat.

Ramiel touched his neck and cringed in pain. It had gotten even redder and much painful to Ramiel. He didn’t have the money to buy the rest of the pills from the healer. The bag he bought during his first visit was long dried up. So for days, he has been enduring the pain on his neck. Without money, all he can do is tolerate the inflammation on his throat.

Ramiel’s start on this world isn’t really good. He didn’t have some great power; he didn’t get a physical boost. He also too didn’t become some chosen one. He got transported here as himself.

The Ramiel that have fear and anxieties, the Ramiel that is purely just a human, who became a loose cog in a world he doesn’t belong. He is scared, anxious and terribly shaken up by his future in this world. But even so, like a normal human being who doesn’t know his bleak future. Ramiel still walks.
