Chapter 148 – Will of Protection 8

----------------------------------------

With the arrival of the Inquisition, things went better. The earth walls were set up and the warp gates that were surrounding the open fields got demolished. They were truly the elite of the kingdom.

Ramiel was quite tired but he didn’t care as he assisted Peronell. She was quite spent almost to the point of mental exhaustion so he took care of her.

“Looks like we did a good job this time, sigh, maybe these guys can take care of this place.”

“We should still be careful.”

“I know that.”

Peronell replied with a firm tone. She knows that as long as the bloody images of the skulls on the skies are present there would be no peace. Her mind is guarded at the moment and despite fighting for a while she could not help but worry about the situation.

“I wonder if Sardis is okay...I hope Abby and the others are safe.”

“...Let’s pray they are.”

Ramiel didn’t know what to say other than pray. He knew that this entire city was turned into ruins just by the earthquake and the warp gates appearing. He could just not imagine that the things in the village of Sardis would be better.

Peronell also knows well that the situation there might be worse than here. But she prays in her heart that everything will be okay. Ramiel didn’t know what to do right now. He was quite inexperienced in comforting people, but thankfully for him, Peronell wasn’t pessimistic as him.

“It’s okay, I am sure that Abby won’t and Raul won’t fall that easily. Pablo is quite strong despite his looks you know? He was an adventurer who usually carries a war hammer and was quite good at it so I doubt these lesser beings could take him down that easily. Besides, he might be greedy but he is fond of the village.”

“That’s great to hear.”

Ramiel hoped that everything will be fine. The village of Sardis has become his home so finding it in ruins would surely break his heart. That is why for now Ramiel decided to brush the thought of the village away from his head. He focused back Peronell, accommodating to her needs.

Peronell quite liked Ramie’s attitude at the moment. He was stern, unmoving and was quite resolute on what to do. She didn’t see his usual weakness. His gloomy face, his vacant eyes right now was quite bright with a will. She hoped that those eyes would stay.

Ramiel noticed her glance and raised his brow. He didn’t what she was thinking so he just smiled at this girl that fell in love with someone like him. The two was quite peaceful despite the blood, it was better for them to be this way rather than despair at the situation around them.

The open fields were secured by the effort of many. Death was everywhere but even so the lives that were saved made up for all those sacrifices.

...

With the battle over the Captain received the Inquisition inside the fort. Inside the fort, the Inquisition leader that clad in black didn’t bother with the formalities and directly told the Captain to hold the fort until the situation is contained.

Meanwhile, the Bishop was told by the leader of the Inquisition to join them back into the King’s Castle. The castle has a lot of wounded and a Bishop like him will be enough to cure. They just need the guidance of the man who leads the priests.

Ramiel and Peronell stayed at the side didn’t dare to go and talk to the leader of the Inquisition. But surprisingly while the leader was talking a figure approach Peronell. This figure was none other than the judge that ordered them to kill the cultist.

“Dear Judge...”

“It is you, I saw your performance a while ago, and you are good. Too bad that we didn’t anticipate that the Sanctus Curse that would only appear once in every people’s lifetime would appear at this age if we only knew then the city wouldn’t have suffered.”

“It is the muse of fate dear judge, but I worry that the other villages might be in trouble. Are the villages around the kingdom okay?”

“They are, the king has sent the runes that would notify the other inquisitors to protect their region. I believe that you are from Sardis. Do not worry, that place is important so we wouldn’t allow it to fall.”

“Thank you for telling me, dear judge.”

Peronell was quite glad about the news. The judge that talks to Peronell had a good impression towards Peronell. This judge glances at Ramiel who was silent and steady. She didn’t really find anything special about Ramiel so she just ignored him like the others.

“Anyways, the King and Inquisition would like to have your help. You feat here, as per what I hear is quite something. I already knew of your adventures at the dungeon continent so there is no doubt you can be helpful. Come with us to the castle, that cursed undead beast would surely be back and someone like you who has great range assets could be helpful.”

“If I can help then it would be my honor!”

“Good, you can come with us along with the bishop.”

“Thank you, but will it be okay if he comes with me?”

“Him?”

The Judge looked indifferently at Ramiel. She raised her brows up and scanned him once again before speaking.

“It's fine, I hope he doesn’t hold you back.”

“No, him being with me makes me a lot safer if that is okay with you? He is a companion and my lover so I hope you understand dear judge.”

“So that was the case, no wonder.”

A sneer unintentionally came out of the judge’s mouth. The Inquisition has high outlook at the strong while looking down at the weak. This didn’t surprise Peronell at all and all she could do was clench her fist in silence. Meanwhile, Ramiel who saw that belittling gaze and sneer was quite unfazed.

So what?

He didn’t need anyone other than Peronell. Anyone’s opinion was quite a nothing to him, and as if obsessed, Ramiel could only care about Peronell. This was his single-minded commitment to her.
