Chapter 141 – Will of Protection 1
----------------------------------------
As Ramiel walk silently in the streets of Gann with Peronell just by his side, he suddenly felt a trembling. The world shook and there was immediate panic as the earthquake harder.
“What’s happening?”
“I do not know...”
Ramiel asked Peronell. The whole city of Gann was shaking hard, the people were screaming, as the tremors only get bigger. Ramiel didn’t know what to do, he casted a barrier spell around him, and despite his mood awhile he ago. He instinctively protected Peronell as if it was natural. He knew that there was no use to wooing her, and dreaming of a family with her, but he wasn’t that jaded to allow the woman that gave him hope in danger.
Peronell saw how brazen Ramiel was. Her heart fluttered, and when thinking about how he was so distant made her heart ache. She grabbed hold on to him tightly, her heart beating fast while the world trembles. The earthquakes didn’t stop, and as it continues the buildings around them started breaking.
Ramiel didn’t think that those buildings would last so he grabbed Peronell’s wrist and moving along dodging the falling buildings and the debris around them. The other magus also rose their barriers in defense of the folks around them, and despite his barrier protecting him and Peronell, the danger didn’t pass around. There was too many falling debris, the buildings were falling and the earth split as the quakes continue.
While trying to dodge, Ramiel felt a burning feeling on his arm. The curse on his arm burned up in response to the curse vowed upon the world, Ramiel didn’t know but he was absorbing unholy curses that are supposed to be granted to the monsters targeted by the curse.
As someone with zero defenses against the magical, Ramiel was slowly being granted power that of supposed to be monsters. He didn’t know why but these curses buffed him, yet at the same time mutated the cursed that is already upon him.
Not knowing anything, Ramiel carried on dodging the falling buildings and splitting floor. Peronell followed slightly yet her heart was wavering as she saw the brave look that Ramiel had. This look was simply what Ramiel does when he studies on anything that interests him, he was quite average in the world but despite that, his looks was quite charming to Peronell. She knew that she has his faults, and despite his attitude, Peronell felt close to him due to how they interact too much, he was quite blunt with his feelings so it was no wonder that a foolish girl like hers, that falls in love too deeply, to the point that she would follow who she adored into the despairing floors of a dungeon continent.
She fell hard and seeing Ramiel’s resolute look on his face made Peronell wonder why she was being so weak at this time of danger as if she was intoxicated with the current Ramiel. A half-elven has the same lifespan of a normal elven, they are long lived and due to this, their love is quite deep. This is because of the tiny years, that most of the elven-human pairings are deeply in love. Peronell’s mother was quite old at the time her father courted her. Yet despite that, her father won her heart and happily, she spent the rest of her life dying old with her husband. Unlike most of the tales, her mother died happily.

“Why...”
Peronell said that while looking at Ramiel’s back firmly.
...
Ramiel desperately dodges the debris and splintered earth. He followed most of the other magus to an open field where debris should be no problem. Ramiel didn’t know why, but he was feeling a bit full despite using his barrier for quite a while. He didn’t know what is happening to him but he just brushed it off, his focus was on protecting Peronell at the moment.
The world still trembled.
The land seems to scream as it shakes. The animals within the open fields were loud as if crying at how the world trembles. Ramiel could see that shaking wasn’t stopping, and as he looks at the building lined streets. Falling, being destroyed, Ramiel could not help but tremble in his heart.
“It’s okay...”
He heard those words. He looked at his side and saw Peronell’s face smiling ever brightly at him as if comforting him. Seeing that, Ramiel couldn’t but sigh in his heart, she was too beautiful and too lovely for him. He hates how he could not ever if possible start a family with her. He hates how he is cursed, yet that smile makes him greedy. He wanted her so much, that it hurts.
“I will be, as long as you are with me.”
Ramiel replied back at Peronell with honest words. He looked forward, trying to be careful if ever the ground on the open fields split. Ramiel was with the other magus and mages who evacuated in the open fields. Around them were hundreds of folks, travelers and adventurers scared. While looking around he saw holy men and women wearing priest and nun outfits gathering, protecting the simple masses with a barrier. A man wearing a mitre on top of his head, embedded with a simple cross standing, praying to the light.
The world’s trembling slowly stopped. But as it does, the dark gray clouds that were making the snow fall slowly turned into blood red. Images of skulls appeared in the sky, and Bishop who was standing tall bravely looked wide-eyed at the terrible signs above.
The land finally stopped shaking, yet the people could not help but feel absolute fear at what is happening above them. Ramiel saw the blood red sky, the ominous images of skulls that seem to laugh at them. Peronell looked at the red sky too; her heart trembled, along with the other folks who knew these kinds of images.
No one dared to say it, but the Bishop that was along with Priests and Nuns stepped up, with his eyes dilating, and trembling, he said in loud words that the people could understand.
“The Sanctus has come; the Dark Lord has cursed the world!”
