Chapter 136 – Wintery Days 5

----------------------------------------

After killing the cultist, Ramiel went and took the pouches that he had on his belt, inside there were letters, talismans, and a parcel that dictates the cultist’s movements.

And also before he could even avoid it, the cursed ring flew and just strapped in on his finger. He was unable to take it out at first but the ring fell down, and somehow felt an extraordinary force supplementing his right arm. The cursed ring supposedly doubles the body’s strength but it only somehow made Ramiel’s right arm slightly stronger.

Peronell arrived at where the corpse is and saw the ring first, it was dropped and she could not see any hint of it till she turns her eyes towards Ramiel. It was the curse in the ring. It now coils inside Ramiel’s arms, coiling like a snake on his bones, slowly turning a part of his bones.

“You are cursed.”

“I am not surprised, curses really love me, and without any resistance, this usually happens.”

“Ramiel...”

Peronell couldn’t help but worry at the vacant look that Ramiel has. His voice had a self-deprecating tone of acceptance that made it hard to hear. It was like it was the natural thing.

“Ramiel, how about going to Soren, there might be someone who can help you there.”

“How much will be the cost? I doubt they will ever find a cure for the scribe’s curse that mutated?”

“But...”

“Though I will try...if that makes you feel better.”

“Thank you.”

Peronell was a bit glad that he wanted to look into Soren. She was really worried about him. So there was a bit of ease in her heart.

“So what are going to do with the body?”

“We will burn the body; the guards shouldn’t be able to identify him the moment we are out of this place.”

Peronell replied. She took a flask of oil from her pocket, threw it at the body. With a slight mutter, a spark of flame appeared on top of the body, making the oil burn. The body of the cultist starting burning, smoke rising from the top, and Ramiel could smell how terrible it is.

“Let’s go, we already have what we need. We should go to the affixed location and deliver the letters, talismans, and parcels”

“Okay.”

Ramiel nodded his head. He followed Peronell back to the camp. While walking, he poured water on his torso, making the blood slightly visible. When he stabbed the cultist, blood spurted on him. So it was not unusual for blood to stain him.

I am really killing as if nothing lately. Ramiel thought. At first, the thought of killing sickens him, but as time passes in this world and how he saw how cruel it is, he got used to killing as if it is a natural thing to him now. Ramiel felt like there is something wrong with all of this, but his head tells him that it is only the way of this world. He might have gotten used to it, but as a modern person, he has still a bit conscience.

Yet, when Ramiel remembers how he acts when he kills, how he came laughing, how his smiles is that of Cheshire cat made him uncomfortable, he knows that there is something wrong with him, yet he never does anything about it.

...

Ramiel went back to the encampment with Peronell. They needed to deliver the parcels so they handed it to one of the couriers that handle the task for the judge. The Handler was quite tall, he wore a black robe, and was quite ominous, seething with blood.

Peronell handed everything towards the person. He was quite elated the moment the parcel was shown, he gave a smile unbecoming of an ominous person. The Handler then stood up from his lone seat. He held a stone marked with runes and muttered something as the rune markings turn into light, flying somewhere.

The Handler congratulated the two. He gave them a large pouch of gold coins. Peronell was quite happy, with this she can finally help out on her living expenses. Ramiel took it nonchalantly. He scanned the gold, and just tied the gold coins on his belt.

After that, the Handler went on his way and left Ramiel and Peronell standing in a rain of snow. Countless white dots fell on Peronell’s head. Ramiel could see how Peronell stands out. Her long blonde hair tied in a ponytail, her robe that of great material, and her curvy, bountiful body made her look like an angel.

Peronell glance at the dazed Ramiel, she smiled, flicked his nose as she walks to the Tent Inn. Once in the Tent Inn, Peronell discussed the trip to Soren. To get to Soren they would have to trek a long trail, climb a step hill and lined up on a way castle that acts a gateway to the mountains that leads to the road to Soren.

The road is filled with gobs, wolves and even birdmen that hunt human flesh. There is a caravan that usually travels there, however, so Ramiel and Peronell thought about getting into the caravan, acting as guards.

The two agreed on this plan, Ramiel didn’t really care mostly because this was Peronell’ suggestion. He knows that she worries for him, so how could he just brush it off despite knowing that there might truly no cure for his curse.

Ramiel has somewhat accepted bearing the curse until his death, but even that acceptance can be disturb. And since Peronell wanted him to, Ramiel agreed simply because he can’t refuse her worried face.

Thus he can only travel to the capital of Gann with her. If it makes her less worry about him, then Ramiel will do so. After all, even though he really doesn’t care about the curse, it doesn’t mean he would ignore someone asking him to be cured.

Ramiel might be suicidal, and uncaring at his own ailments, but even so, a person like him could not refuse a kind gesture.
