Chapter 47 – Days off

----------------------------------------

Ramiel woke up before Felli. It was already fall season, and even with that much passing by already. Ramiel, who has spent quite a time in this world still found himself suffering from the consequences of what he did.

Right now, he is on his bed sitting cross-legged. He looked at his wrist, palm, and finally his leg. His leg, during the last days of summers, has started acting up. And oddly, he found black marks on his legs. Ramiel thought it was some kind lymph node again. He grimaced at the sight of the black marks on his legs. Due to it, it made Ramiel want to stay in his room and rest. But since that was not allowed. He, despite his current condition, forced himself to function.

It is fall already. I really did spend some time in this world.

Ramiel muttered while caressing his right leg. He touched it and tried to ease the pain using the healing spell. But even with that, it was useless simply because the black, wood-like marks are a pain for him. Usually, he would be not awake until 5 am, but since his leg, throat, his wrist has been aching. He cannot help but wake up drenched in sweat.

I better get some water.

Ramiel thought as he stood up and limply walked down to the kitchen. In the kitchen, he took some mug and drinks some water. As he was drinking, he noticed a faint purr coming under the kitchen’s counter.

Oh, it’s Felina...

He saw the pet cat of Felli sleeping. Fluffy as always, Ramiel didn’t want to disturb the cat, so he left the kitchen. In the empty bar, Ramiel pulled a chair and rested his arms on a table. He laid his head on the table, staring at the empty bar.

I wonder if I can take a break. Though Felli probably would be dissatisfied since I am barely here in the morning—and aside from the Lady—I really don’t want to be on Felli’s bad side.

Ramie is grateful to Felli for saving him when he was homeless. If it wasn’t for Felli, he wouldn’t be able to find a job and a home. Plus he wouldn’t be able to meet the lady who throughout the summer taught him how to speak the language of the land.

He can now understand some bits of the language of the land. It is not perfect but nonetheless, Ramiel can understand some of the things now.

“You are awake already?”

Ramiel glanced at Felli who rubbed her eyes as she walks. Looking at her messy appearance, Ramiel said.

“Good morning Miss Felli.”

“Good morning Ramiel. Hmm, you are getting good at speaking. Keep it up.”

Felli complimented as she walked into the kitchen—taking a mug of water and a fruit with her. She then went to the bar and started eating the fruit. Ramiel watched from his table and said.

“Miss Felli. Can I ask for a favor?”

“You mean this? It is an eastern peach. I bought some from a merchant who came by. And no, I am not sharing them.”

“I think that came out wrong. I am asking for a favor Miss Felli.”

“Oh, favor huh...” Felli bit on the pink peach and looked at Ramiel with dull eyes. “So what do you want? If it’s money then I am afraid that I am on a spot too.”

“I want a day off.”

“A day off work, aren’t you always doing that already?” Felli said.

“I know. But Miss Felli, my legs is.” Ramiel showed the black on his legs to Felli.

“That seems bad.”

Ramiel smiled wearily at Felli’s reply. “Indeed, so that is why I am begging you for day’s of no work.”

Felli hummed as she pondered on Ramiel’s plea.

“I am not paying for the week.”

“Thank you, Mister Felli. I owe you one for this”

“Whatever, also you should take the time to sharpen your language skills,” Felli said.

“Okay.”

Ramiel replied while thanking Felli inside his head. He really needed to rest for a while.

...

After that talk, Ramiel went back to his room and rested. He wasn’t sleepy, so he decided to read some of the notes that the lady gave him. It has been useful and due to that, he was able to somehow make a conversation with Felli.

He still is rough around the edges but at least it made him able to understand things now to an extent.

That reminds me, I need to take the time off from visiting the lady’s house. I got a lot of pictures from her, and there is really no need to visit so often right?

Ramiel was thankful for the lady. But even, he has limits to how he could work the lady. During the last days of summer, aside from learning the language, Ramiel spent his time roaming the town, taking pictures for the lady. It honestly tires him out. So thinking about the lady, Ramiel went up from his bed and took his cloak with him. Along with his camera and charger, he walked down to the Inn, passed by the busy bar, and subtly told Felli and Desha goodbye.

As he went outside of the Inn, Ramiel looked up at the cloudy skies and felt two whispers of the wind on his right ear. It happened two times, and it made Ramiel feel rather weird.

I wonder what that was about. Kind of eerie, but oh well.

He dispelled the odd feeling though. He felt that the whisper of the wind in his ear felt ominous. It made Ramiel feel like there is something unlucky that will happen.

But even so, Ramiel dispelled the thought as mere superstition and went to the house of the lady.
