Chapter 85 – Personal Weapon
----------------------------------------
The next day, Ramiel return at the Guild. His presence in the guild was needed, and despite his refusal to stay long, he complied out of necessity for the situation. The Guild members also needed him and Ramiel when he asked for help would not refuse.
He stayed at the same table as usual. Helping men and women, injured from their various quests. The City is on lockdown but it doesn’t mean that the monsters entering the area outside of the city aren’t stopping their activities. Monsters care less for the trivialities of men. They do not think any less of humanoids as other than that prey to slaughter.
Thus the guild members are bound to stop the monsters. They are being paid by their services so it wasn’t bad. Also with the Guild being fully active, the military can focus on defending the city from external threat. Scouts from the Al-Goraz faction could be seen on the outskirts of the city, making the situation dire.
The fighter’s of the Guild fight them if they can. Some die, some survive, some returns with fewer limbs. Ramiel saw various men and women come back bloodied and distraught. Losing an arm in this world is considered as bad luck. Without an arm or a leg, they wouldn’t be able to work. Without work, they wouldn’t be able to earn money and live.
Ramiel felt bad at the various injured men and women. He could feel their despair and he sympathizes with them by not pitying them. He looks them in the eye and tells them that they will be alright.
He has been playing doctor for a while and as he did so, Ramiel felt like he is getting used to this kind of work. Somehow from being a beggar, he turned to become a healer working for a guild. It worked well for him at least, and if anything he should be lucky enough to survive this far.
He guesses that he is a good survivor.
Too bad that he wasn’t this competent in his own world if he knew that being put into tough spots would allow him to improve even for a bit. To be honest, Ramiel thinks that if the world he is in right now needed degrees and diplomas, he would still be stuck somewhere, starving.
This world doesn’t need fancy papers, and with life expectancy being rather low. It could be said that such things like degrees and resumes are unnecessary for this world.
This world also values able men. And at the moment, even Ramiel could be considered as an able man. With life so short in this world, even the average Ramiel could earn admirers. With the world grim and cruel outside city walls, so people easily falling for one another, or seeking warmth for another are rather nothing unusual.
In this world where lives are easily extinguished, men and women seeking for anything that might lessen the sheer madness of this world is a lot.

...
Ramiel got called to the blacksmith’s area. He saw Eziel sharpening a weapon on his workbench. Noticing Ramiel, he quickly put aside his tools and took out a parchment and a quill.
“So what is this all about?” Ramiel asked.
“Customary for everyone to have their own weapon made, sign that you are from fighter’s guild. Kind of like a memento.”
“So what’s with the paper and quill, Do I have to draw my own design?”
“Yes, I would prefer if you do.”
Ramiel stared at the paper and quill for a moment. He raises a brow, thinking what weapon he really wants to have. He has literally zero training over weapons. He has been reliant on quick-thinking and making use of anything he has to win.
So in terms of owning any weapons, Ramiel thought that a dagger just might suffice. But considering the last time he had one, it just got left behind in a dire wolf’s neck. Ramiel vanquishes the idea and thought of the best weapon for him.
He already has a repeater crossbow.
But since he can have a free weapon, he thought that he might as well get this offer. At first, Ramiel thought that a spear would suffice. With a spear's length, and using it by poking would already be great. But with him not being that athletic, Ramiel discarded the thought.
If he needs a spear in the first place then it means that his enemy is already in front of him. Ramiel really doesn’t prefer anyone that tries to kill him near him. Hence, as a modern person, if it is possible he would like a gun instead.
He heard that Dwarvens up in their homeland usually carries what the people call as ‘boomstick’ and he is very interested in it.
“I can’t think of any good weapon.”
“How about a sword, everyone wants a sword.”
“Too heavy for me, and besides I thought of wanting a retractable spear, but Nah, it is just my style not to mention my ‘footwork’ is atrocious already.”
“True, your leg looks bad. Some curse you have there really.”
“Curse?”
Ramiel tilted his head for a second there. But since he was still thinking about a new weapon, he put the thought away for now. He proceeds to think again about the weapon he wanted. For example, if someone tackles like what that man did, Ramiel wanted a weapon he can easily deploy.
“Oh...”
A light bulb appeared on top of his head. He grabs the parchment and started drawing another bracer, it is bracer with a mechanism that allows him to retract a blade by a single push of a button. It was a simple illustration of a bracer, a blade, then how the mechanism would work.
Eziel looked at Ramiel’s drawing, he first thought how impractical his design was but as he continued. Eziel’s eyes brighten and thought that the weapon Ramiel wanted isn’t half bad. He grinned at the odd design, and after Ramiel was done, he immediately started work on the weapon with enthusiasm.
