Chapter 130 – Starry Night

----------------------------------------

The Villagers happily sang. With wine and meat on their hands, the merry mood of the beach turned into a party. The children danced, fiddling at the bonfire, their mothers either screaming or ignoring their young ones as they happily chat with the others.

The local guards the one that hauled the scrofus beast sang as they cheered with cups of ale on their fingers. Their happy faces and their widely open mouth filled with joy. The local guards didn’t have any guard duty, and they shut the gates close so that they can just enjoy this feast.

On their left is the sea that spans blue, glowing under the influence of the moon. The houses are on their right, the docks on their back, and the front where the Cliffside acting as the wall for the village is. There is a watchtower their armed with a ballista.

The sands of the beach were white, the waves slowly wash the sand. Some crabs could be seen crawling silently, the embers from the bonfire falling upon them. The fishes of the blue sea lit up by the moon jumped as the other creatures deep under glows.

The Bonfire raised up to the air, the smoke can be seen from far. The wind around the beach was thick with the scent of roasted boar. The sounds of the villagers singing along with their string instruments were quite lively. A villager strung the instrument with mastery, his fingers waving back and forth as he plays it.

The tune was cheery, and it was a country like, with a bit of humming. It made the young lads of the village stand up and dance around. The village has quite the young ones, they are bachelors and bachelorettes that would either stay or settle down infinitely in this village or go out and venture into the wide world.

Some never return, while some are like Peronell who came back sincerely for the beauty of this village. They dance, as if they were possessed, the instrument playing made the young lads smile at their heart’s content. Flushing cheeks and red ears, the ear reaching grin of the lads made the feast quite lively and romantic.

The other folks sat idly at the scene before them. Old and young eyes, the scene was unchanging to both. This village has been established a long time ago, it grew up with the capital of Gann, Soren, which faces the cold sea where the icy continent is located.

Many people, at least most of the villagers gathered here simply because of the bonfire. As for the fire unites them, warms them at either night or winter, the fire is important. Within the continent of Hillines, there are four basic deities that are worshiped.

The God of Creation that has many names, the Sun God Auro, the winter’s Mistress Schnee and Light that is named only as Lumen.

The Nation of Gann adores the Sun God’s fire that brought warm to the freezing world, it could be said that the world’s creation started with a burning fire in the middle of the world where every freezing creature approached.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The Fire is Salvation, while the Light is the Guide. The Cold Snow for the people of Hillines is figured by the state of coldness that the body emanates at death. In winter many deaths occur, thus the people associate the deity of winter to death.

Thus the bonfire on this beach is a native tradition that is practiced. The roasting of boar, along with the people feasting is a tradition to them when the hunt is successful. It doubles as a party, a Thanksgiving in thanks to the Gods above for granting food.

...

Around the gathering, at least forty inches away sat Ramiel and Peronell. With a cup of wine and a roasted meat on their hands, the two talked idly. Ramiel chatted away with her, and Peronell simply enjoyed doing so. Peronell’s presence made Ramiel cheer up, she also forgave him for the scare he gave her awhile ago.

“This, a good wine...”

“Agreed, Pablo contributed it.”

“A bargain I am guessing.”

“Yes, a bargain...a trade of fur and meat for his customers.”

“Well, that is quite wise.”

“By the way, you were the one that killed this boar? I am impressed.”

“Not really, just by chance when it stupidly tried to ambush, I created a barrier with protruding spikes, and it basically killed itself.”

“I must say, you are quite fond of using your barriers oddly. Why is that?”

“I can’t into offensive spells; I am bad, no, more like I couldn’t use them,” Ramiel said.

“Why?” she asks.

“Circumstances with my body, or something like that,” Ramiel said, he obviously could not say his body is not compatible with the world’s energy, simply because find it hard to explain.

“I see, is it because of the curse?”

“No, this one is something I got from desperate folks. They tricked me into chanting a hex spell.”

“Are you mad at them?”

“Yes, I am who wouldn’t be mad? But at the same time, I could see why they are desperate, that is why if there is a chance I would ask them why. After that, I do not know anymore.”

Ramiel said with a dark expression. Peronell saw that so she pouts as she pulls Ramiel’s cheeks.

“Why did you do that?”

“Because you are making a bad expression, and I hate it when you do that. Why not try to be positive?”

“Gah that is something I could not do!”Ramiel said.

“Come on, or I won’t like you.” Peronell poked Ramiel’s cheeks.

“Fine...” Ramiel forcibly smiles.

“Now that is creepy...he he.” Peronell held her mouth near her mouth as she tries to contain her amusement.

“Teasing me...well I will have my revenge.” said Ramiel, as if he would find a way to do so.

“He he, well I am glad that you aren’t looking gloomy...”

“Thanks to you...you are nice despite being a smug angel.”

“What does that even mean?”

“Hell if I know...”

Ramiel shrugged his shoulders as he takes a sip of the wine. He breathes out, looked up to the sky only to see the silver dots that cover the sky entirely. With the wine, the warmth of the bonfire, and the companion beside him, Ramiel felt like his nostalgia a while ago were deliberately gone.
