Chapter 119 – Elite At
----------------------------------------
The Land Dragon landed directly in front of the den. The Deliverance cultist was quite fast to cast a binding spell at the land dragon. With that bind, the cultist was able to direct the land dragon to attack Ramiel and the others.
The Elites of the soldier encampment did not panic at the slightest at the sight of the land dragon. These men were elites it would be a mockery if they get surprised by such thing. The local guards were scared, Peronell had a calm look simply because she seen worse back in the dungeon continent.
“FIRE THE BALLISTAS!”
The elites fired at the land dragon. Peronell also fired a bolt of the grapple and bind to pin down the dragon on the ground letting the soldiers of the encampment shot the land dragon down with the ballista’s bolt, the bolts are made of reinforced steel so the dragon’s scale was easily penetrated by the ballista bolts.
The Cultist standing near the dragon grew infuriated at the land dragon’s weakness. Therefore, he summoned another magic circle and released another land dragon.
The land dragon collided with the land dragon, accidentally making the bolts pierced on the land dragon that was first summoned dig deeper. The land dragon died at the own incompetence of the cultist. The cultist, however, did not care for one single land dragon and decided to release a violet barrier that engulfed the whole den.
It released violet flares that immediately flew to the local guards and the elite soldiers. This violet flare is a brand that would curse the branded as if they were lures for monsters. The only way to break it is to kill the caster.
“Damn it...”
The Ser Knight stomped his right foot at the way he was branded. The local guards were panicking, Abby, Raul, and Peronell were quite worried at the brand that marked to them.
“Looks like we can’t leave until we kill the bastard, going out there with this brand will get us all kinds of monsters, looks like we have to break the barrier first, so until that we can’t even think of getting him.”
Peronell said it with a blank expression. She then turned to Ramiel who was taking cover only to see him unbranded at all. This shocked Peronell so she hurriedly went to him and asked.
“Why aren’t you branded?”
“I have no idea,” Ramiel replied.
In fact, the only reason why Ramiel is not marked is that his energy is incompatible with the world, the cultist casted with the idea of branding the human attacking him.
Ramiel was not of this world. So the branding did not home to him. There was no way that such brand that targets this world’s humans would mark him.
“Then aren’t you lucky,” Peronell said.
“Well for once...I guess so.” Ramiel replied, standing while keeping his repeating crossbow with him.
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“It’s great that you are not branded but we still need to kill the bastard inside.”
“That’s bad...don’t worry I won’t run away since you here.”
“Well that’s sweet,” Peronell replied.
The two stared for a while before Abby said.
“Peronell can that stop for a while. Help us break the barrier.”
“Got it, are you going to help?”
“I leave it to you guys.”
“Okay.”
Saying that Peronell left Ramiel alone and went back to helping the other soldiers destroy the barrier.
Ramiel stood for a while before walking to the barrier. Back in the City of Tinople, he was unaffected by the array formation that the city has. So knowing this Ramiel touched the barrier.
“Hey what are you...”
A guard noticed Ramiel but was surprised to see that the barrier did not stop his hand. The guard ran towards Ramiel, he tried touching the barrier too only for his hand blocked by a physical force.
“You can pass through this?”
“I probably can.”
“That’s great! Please kill that bastard. Leave distracting them to us. We will fire at the barriers so they won’t expect you!”
“Wait-“
Ramiel was not able to speak as the guard pushes him inside the barrier. He felt fear at the second but seeing the guard ran through the others with hopeful eyes, Ramie felt stressed. However, he looked at Peronell, she focused on destroying the barrier, and looking at her eyes, Ramiel saw expectations.
Expectations that will be able to do something about the situation they found themselves. Ramiel hated carrying expectations on his shoulders, but somehow he did not fear at all. There was this odd snap on his brain, a feeling of wanting to win. Therefore, even though he should be cowering in fear right now, Ramiel instead focused on achieving something here.
His heart pumped so hard he hears it on his ears. He felt like there was a cold wind around him as he slowly lowers his posture and proceeds to go to the door. He peeked around the door for a second; there was no one inside other than the lamps hanging around. There was a staircase leading down, and inside Ramiel could smell the dead, probably the corpses of the cultists that got crushed when the ballista’s started firing on the den.
Ramiel could hear the voices of a few inside. It made Ramiel think if he should go with this. However, with how thing is, he swallowed his fear, emptied his mind as he opens the door without thinking. Ramiel was slowly breathing through his nose his steps were silent and he was moving oddly quiet. Ramiel had his days of sneaking around the house or at his school. He was not a sneaking master, but he himself thinks that he can sneak around just fine. Therefore, with that in mind, Ramiel slowly climb down the stairs while readying his repeater crossbow.
With the intention of firing before speaking, Ramiel’s expression went cold as a tinge of madness leaks out. With his beating heart, his emptied mind, Ramiel who was usually a coward entered the den of cultist with the intention to kill them all.
