Chapter 139 – Wintery Days 8

----------------------------------------

Ramiel woke up with the sun’s light seething on his eyes. He brushed off the sun, scratch his hair awkwardly and put on his fur coat. Ramiel stood up, he went out of the room. There he saw that there is a small basin next to his room. Seeing this, he grabbed it, washed his face, and use the cloth put beside the basin.

He went down the first floor. The bar was already full with people, he sat near the window. The waitress walking around noticed Ramiel, made him take an order. He ordered two sets of dishes, one for him and one for Peronell. After ordering, he saw Peronell walking down.

He greeted her with a wave of his hand, she replied back, walking towards his location. She sat yawning, her disheveled hair, and sleepy eyes made her look cute at Ramiel’s eyes. He couldn’t believe how beautiful she I something, making him a bit questioning if this woman would ever look at him with affection.

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing, just wondering how beautiful you can be sometimes...”

“You can really say that with a straight face?”

Peronell couldn’t help but blush. Being complimented early in the morning was quite something. She didn’t hate it in fact as a woman she appreciates it kindly. She brushed her hair slightly. She adjusted her robe as she sits in front of Ramiel.

Ramiel and Peronell waited for the meal to arrive. While waiting Ramiel talked to Peronell, it was just random chatter, and at the same time, they talked about their plan for today. The reason they traveled here in the capital of Gann, Soren was to find anything about his curse.

To do so they would have to scour the city. Ramiel was ready to do so despite knowing that there is no hope. He is only doing out of respect for Peronell. He didn’t really want to search for any cure that couldn’t be found. It felt vain to him there was no reason to do so.

The food carried by the waitress finally arrived. She laid the food neatly on the table, wink at the two and left to deliver the tray on her other hand. Ramiel scanned the food in front of him. Two sets of meal merely composed of corn, roasted meat, soup and a rye bread. It looked quite bountiful to Ramiel. He was used to the food of this world.

He took a bit of the food in front of him. It tasted like the usual, flavorless and a bit salty. The food of this world was quite stale in comparison to what he usually eats back in the modern world of his. Though Ramiel doesn’t complain about it that much since three years made him accept the taste of it.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

He lazing use his hands, carried the polished wooden bowl, drinking the soup. He took a bit of the corn it was quite sweet, while the rye bread was sinfully bland as usual.

...

After eating the two departed to look for anyone that could look into the curse happening around Ramiel’s body. At first, they went into a chapel where high priests could be seen working. Ramiel asks the head priest if he can cure him, the head priest took a glance, got surprised at the heavy curse lingering upon his body. Unlike magic perception, the method that head priest used was quite more effective. Using the eye of the holy to inspect, he saw the heavy curse enveloping Ramiel slowly without any hint of stopping.

“It is no use the curse is something I cannot lift, in fact, I doubt anyone could ever remove this curse. Your body has zero resistance against any magical, making you a prime target for curses. I am afraid that no one could help you...”

The Head Priest said straightly with confidence. He was sure about his statement. Ramiel heard him loud and clear, he knew this was the case. He looked at Peronell and smiled wearily. It was no use at all there was just no use in trying to cure something that cannot be cured.

Even the Argo’s Curse that ran through the bloodline of each heir couldn’t be cured for centuries. So Ramiel thought that it would be impossible for him to have it cured. He has a limited lifespan, and he knows that he won’t ever pass this curse to anyone.

“I am sorry.”

“It is alright, I understand it already.”

The head priest said with a bit pity, Ramiel told him softly that it was not the case. Peronell, who heard what the head priest said, looked down. She was quite saddened that was the case. Ramiel saw the look on her face, his heart ached and he could only stand up, walk out of the chapel.

Ramiel stared at the sky. His thoughts wondered for a second before looking at Peronell walking out of the chapel. Her eyes blue as emerald, her blond hair that shines like the sun, her well-proportioned face, and her hourglass body made him in deep awe looking at her.

“Are you okay?”

“I am...”

Ramiel replied with a bitter feeling in his heart. He remembered the Argos Curse, how it spread through the bloodline of their heirs. Knowing this, he was quite saddened and seeing Peronell made him sadder. It felt like it was no use, and even though he found hope, he was reminded that this hope was fragile.

Ramiel’s heart broke, he made a smile at Peronell. It was melancholic kind of smile that reeks of sadness and desolation, an empty smile made of nothing but pure empty loneliness. She didn’t know why Ramiel would smile like that, and it bothered Peronell.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing...”

Ramiel smiled. There was no reason for him to stay in the chapel vicinity so he started walking. Peronell followed as usual and tried to talk to Ramiel but there was a huge gap suddenly appearing. She felt like Ramiel was getting distant. and his eyes were more vacant than usual.
