Chapter 73 -  A Medic Courier

----------------------------------------

Led into the master’s office by the black-haired receptionist with a docile appearance, Ramiel was told to wait for a bit. He waited as instructed, watching the black-haired girl enter the master’s office. Hearing a few conversations, the door opened, revealing the black-haired girl directing Ramiel to the master of the guild.

Burly, bearded, muscular, tall and intimidating just by appearance alone, Ramiel bowed his head in respect which made the man before him took note of him, raising a brow, the master of the guild said:

“Tell me your name youngster.”

“Ramiel is my name.”

“I see. So let us be direct to the point. Why do you want to work for the guild as a staff member? I figure that most men would love to go on adventures and slay monsters to gain glory. Yet you rather work in this guild?”

“I am weak Sir, I am limping, my right hand is rather shaky, my throat is aching, and I do not know how much long I can live. I am sure if I was any better I would be not asking to work here, but as you can see, God seems to like putting me down quite a bit lately.”

“I see, you are unable to adventure?”

“Yes, sir,” Ramiel said.

“Interesting—I am Randal, Master of the Fighter’s Guild, and I think that I might jut hire you.”

“That would be great Sir.”

“But...”

“Yes, Sir?”

“What can you do?”

“Sort documents, count money, balance accounts, and micro manage. If you can, then I can also work as a courier, as long as it is only limited in the city.”

“A messenger too huh? You have quite a confidence in what you said.”

“Well, let us just say that it is easy for me to do that.”

Ramiel went to a modern school. He can at least do those things easily. Management is something that he can easily do.

The master glanced at Ramiel looking at his whole appearance, he notices the gourd of ale in his waist, the wooden backpack, and his snapsack. He thought for a while holding his chin, he said.

“So tell me about yourself youngster.”

“Let’s see…I once lived in the Kingdom of Lin, working for an Inn. Then I was ‘thrown’ out of the Kingdom of Lin, and let us just say that I suffered misfortune along the way, then I work as a ‘doctor’ for a quite a while.”

“Quite vague, but may I know if you have done things that ended you in prison?”

“No sir, aside from defending myself I have by no means attack people out of spite.”

“I see, are you perhaps a pacifist?”

“I cannot say that I am.  But I guess so?”

“Hmm, indeed you look like you do not fight a lot. Very well, I guess I can hire you.”

“So where can I start?”

“Stop right there young man, for now, I will give you one condition before I can truly hire you.”

“What is it?” Ramiel tilted his head.

“I will train you for a bit. It is a bit necessary for someone working in the guild to defend himself.”

“Does that mean…umm may I ask your name milady?” Ramiel said to the black haired receptionist with a strange try in seduction.

“My name is Dall!”

She said quite flustered. Ramiel bowed his head, and then turn to the Master of the Guild.

“So does that mean Miss Dall here also knows how to fight?”

“Self-defense—but she can fight if it comes to it.”

“I see, though I think fighting is not my forte.”

“Hmm, you said that you work as a doctor?”

“I know healing spells, aside from that I think I can learn more.”

“The Guild quite lacks people that are eager to learn healing spells. Okay, I decided, how about I let you learn healing spells and become a doctor messenger for our fighters?”

“What does that mean?”

“It means, I might send you out in some of the fighter’s houses so you can deliver letters to them or provide healing. How about it young man? To be honest, not many is fond of men on the receptionist counter and the guild is lacking able men that can cast healing spells.”

“Hmm, deal.”

“You are okay with that?”

“As long as the pay is good then I can deal with it, Sir.”

“I see...looks like you are easy to deal with.”

“Thank you, Sir Randal.”

“No problem. Hmm, how about taking a tour of the guild first? Miss Dall, please escort our new member to the areas of the guild and introduce him to the other members if you please.”

“Y-yes Sir!”

Dall bowed her head. She turned towards Ramiel and gestured with her hand to follow her. Ramiel thanked Sir Randal, as he went out of the office of the guild and follow Dall to the places where he needs to get acquainted with. First, they went to the armory, where various blacksmiths work. Then they went to the archives where a person is sorting various books and catalogs. Then she took Ramiel to the receptionist counter where she learned the people inside.

Ramiel introduced himself as the new Doctor messenger of the guild. They quite feel odd at Ramiel’s appearance suddenly and how he got hired. Dall who is acting out as Ramiel’s guide felt quite odd too. She never really thought that someone would apply as staff member so willingly.

To her experience, most of the people that apply as guild member are like her, who thinks she could not handle the cruel world outside or veterans who went down the drain from an injury while adventuring. To her, Ramiel is an odd one simply because she did not find anything weird to this gray-haired man who she thinks that tried flirting with her.

Ramiel walk along with the docile receptionist while not noticing the rosy cheeks she is trying to cover up as she treks down the hallway of the guild.

Ramiel followed silently behind Dall’s back. He watched the docile receptionist in a butler-like outfit stride along the hallways. He listened to her talk and at the same time, wondering what his job would truly be in this guild.
