Chapter 132 – Wintery Days 1

----------------------------------------

Two weeks after the beach bonfire, at the height of winter. Ramiel and Peronell took on a task that came from the board inside the In. The task states that they should hunt a member of the deliverance cult that is currently hiding under a guise of a soldier.

This soldier is on the encampment near the village of Sardis. So they went their way in secrecy as they try to track down the soldier inside the encampment.

Sitting near the wooden gates of the encampment, Ramiel could see the soldiers hitting the dummy targets. Repeatedly bashing them with their swords mechanically, he thought that it was funny. He looked at the young soldiers running around heavily armored. It seems that they are getting trained to run around with the armor on.

Currently, the snow is heavily falling down from the skies. It was rather cold, and even though Ramiel sat near the gates, he wasn’t that cold simple because of the fur coat crafted from the scrofus boar he killed and feasted.

Ramiel inhaled, he saw his breathe as  he does. It was already about forty minutes since Peronell left, they have been getting along to the point they are always together. From hunting, taking tasks, or just chatting along, it has been quite a habit of them.

Right now she is out there meeting a female inquisition judge. Since the judge didn’t want to make any fuss, she instructed that only Peronell would be allowed to talk to her. Ramiel didn’t have any care, so he just went along with it and stayed behind.

It is getting cold out in the open. The Encampment is near a cliff that faces the sea so wind blowing harshly is making Ramiel shiver despite his fur coat on. He is already wearing a neck warmer and a leather surcoat on top of his leather armor yet the chilling breeze still makes him shiver.

The sky was covered with dark clouds, the sun wasn’t present nor could it ever be seen. Gann is facing the cold continent, so when winter comes in Gann, the land would get so cold. At least the green parts of Gann will, the desert like settlements west of the nation won’t ever feel cold. In fact, most of the nobles go there for winter in order to take a break from the overbearing cold.

This encampment is in the southern part of the nation. The eastern part doesn’t get that cold simply because of the geography of it, facing the deserts Trapolstan. While the Southern parts, where the Capital is located is near the elven land, and the giant mountains of the dwarven lands bounces the wind, making the land cold. The Geographic size of Gann is only about eighty thousand square miles, relatively smaller than the Hillines continent where the states of the Kingdom of Lin, Nation of Trapolstan, the Easterion, Wisteria and the Kingdom of Deus are located.

The only reason the Nation of Gann has stayed free from is mainly that of the giant merchant guilds that control the trade routes. They offer a loan, weapons, and any sort of services, making the Nation of Gann a rich center, with a neutral stance.

They only ally  themselves to the Merchants of Gann, and King of Gann control the merchant guilds with an iron fist. But anyway, Gann is located at the crossroads of the land where the non-humans are, and the Hillines are. Ramiel knew nothing about how the nation where this nation is located, the only thing he cared about is if the place is peaceful.

Why is he here in this world?

Ramiel always asks that but every answer that came upon his head was that he only wanted peace in his life. Yet right now he is chasing after someone’s life simply because of the reward money. Ramiel and Peronell needed the money simply because of the weather. The two agreed on sharing the profit even if Peronell does all the work.

Peronell is far stronger than Ramiel. She is someone who experienced the dangers of the dungeon continent and came back alive. She is also a magick archer at the rank nine, a level considered to be great. So this job for Peronell should be easy.

Ramiel sat waiting under the makeshift shelter. He crossed his arms, his vision moving from left to right. He saw that the soldiers are still busy, while some are building a campfire, making a pit where they can start cooking. Ramiel exhaled, he saw his breathe again and inhaled the cold air, waiting for Peronell to get done with her conversation with the judge.

The Judge and Peronell climbed up to a cliff. That cliff was surrounded by trees and she was able to climb it easily without arousing any suspicion. That sort of feat is something Ramiel could never do, he was physically weak and he cannot guarantee that he will be able to climb it all.

He might be able to somehow use that improvise blast magic he has. If he could somehow put the blast magic on his foot then use the recoil, he could possibly reach the cliff. In fact, he could use it to blast people off without destroying their flesh, a simple throw.

But right now he didn’t dare to try it. He has been slowly recovering and he doesn’t want to go into mind exhaustion again. Ramiel looked forward, he saw Peronell walking towards him. She is wearing her robe, and despite the cold, her robe seems able to resist the chill.

“Are you done talking with the judge?”

“Yes, she also gave me a few tips on how to kill the cultist.”

“I see, though isn’t it weird how she isn’t doing it herself?”

“The judge must have her reasons, I have no idea about what it is, but definitely it is far more important that dealing with this cultist.”

“Whatever, so where is the cultist?”

“That’s our job, all we know that he wears a cursed ring that doubles his strength. I could find it probably, but first, we need the night to come.”

“Okay, so are we staying at the tent Inn?”

A few steps away from the gates there is a ten that has beds and tables. That place is also serving ale and bread, there are a lot of guards there too.

“Yeah, let us go there.”

Saying that, Peronell gestured Ramiel to follow her to the Inn to take a drink, Ramiel nodded his head as he follows Peronell, finally getting away from the damn cold.
