Chapter 86 – Barrier Magic
----------------------------------------
After drawing up the weapon he wanted. Ramiel left the forge area of the guild. It was quite hot inside so he didn’t really want to stay longer than he has to.
The Guild is huge. It has different rooms built for other purposes. The Guild has about five major rooms. The quarters where the staff member and the blacksmith lives, the armory where all the weapons are stored, the medical room where the injured are put, the offices where the documents are worked on, and finally the main lobby where most of the fighters stay.
The Guild is a maze if one didn’t familiarize themselves with it. Ramiel got a guided through the rooms by Dall once, so he had no problem navigating in the room. In the hallways, he slowly walks, and as he does, Dall who was back somewhere noticed Ramiel.
“Sir Ramiel!” she called out.
“Dall?”
Ramiel stopped to look at Dall. He raises his eyebrows and said.
“Why do you call me Sir? Please stop that.”
“Okay, ah, the guild master wanted you to have this.”
She handed out a piece of scroll towards Ramiel.
“Is this another spell incantation?”
“Yes, it is a barrier spell. You should be able to cast it since it is just barrier spell.”
“I see. So this a non-elemental barrier spell then?”
‘You can’t use offensive spells so the guild master want you to take that.” said Dall,
“Why exactly?”
“Eh, maybe because it will help, he said that a protection spell won’t be enough and the Guild Master wants you to learn it.”
“Really...”
Ramiel felt wary. The last time he accepted a spell scroll things turn sour. He hesitated for a second, which made Dall say.
“Please take it. Actually...” she blushes. “I told the guild master that you may need this. We don’t know if those barbarians would attack while you healing the fighters of the guild. So having a barrier to protect you from harm might be a good idea. Besides, you can’t hold a shield well right? Then this would be perfect.”
Ramiel smiled wearily. It is true that he can’t hold anything that heavy. Sword, Shield, Maces, Axes, and even Armor is too heavy for him. With his body being un-athletic as it gets, him carrying those things would just hinder him down.
Ramiel prefers lighter clothing. Hence, the leather armor, the cape, and the kneecaps, and the bracers he is currently wearing right now are for light movement. He already has a bad leg so equipping heavy things is out of the question for him.
“I’ll take it then.”
Ramiel took the scroll.
Dall smiled as he takes it.
He didn’t really want to take the scroll since it would mean that the guild master would want something from him. Getting involved is a bad thing, and Ramiel also expects for things to always go south when he gets involved. Not because he thinks he is unlucky, but because he learned that expecting good things to happen in this world is a big NO.
He knows it by experience and Ramiel doesn’t want to experience suffering, especially if he can prevent it.

...
Ramiel bid his goodbye and went back to his house.
Dall went on her way since her only reason was to bring the scroll to him. Ramiel feels like he could at least trust her. She doesn’t seem bad and Ramiel feels like, with her docile personality, she couldn’t be that bad.
I should learn this spell.
Ramiel thought. The barrier spell is something useful. He already has the protection spell but having a barrier plus the protection spell’s aura surrounding him would make for a better armor. He already witnessed the protection spell’s ability to deflect a bone arrow that could even rip through the wooden parts of the guild, so the barrier spell should be strong too.
He took out the spell scroll and read the following chants. It is quite long, but since learning the spell is quite something he is interested at. Ramiel quickly got into memorizing the spell. His focus was of that of a man who is staring in front of a screen for 24 hours.
He is super focused.
And with interest and focus working for him, he manages to remember the first parts of the spell quite well. The barrier spell work just like protection spell. There is some similarity that he could see, which he thinks he can somehow exploit.
He noticed that the protection spells is ‘casted’ and brought forth with the word ‘protection’ in mind. Just like how his healing spell’s logic is different from the other healers. While Ramiel’s healing spell works on accelerating regeneration process because that is how he thinks of it. The Healers who used their healing spells has the idea that through the spell, the flesh is healed. They think that it is through ‘miracle’ that the healing activates, while Ramiel thinks that the healing spell is just like a supplement that allows him to fasten the healing process.
So when he noticed the concept, Ramiel thought of how to use the barrier spell as for example, in a form of a shield. He also thought that maybe if he can conjure barrier spell and use it as a weapon. The barrier spell works on the idea of protection so Ramiel thought that he could just change his ‘idea’ of protection and make it work like that.
So he practiced this idea.
And as he does, he managed to succeed and instead of learning one spell, he found another pseudo-spell through failure.
His body cannot handle the energy of the world, and since he needs a conduit to perform offensive spells, he accidentally put an element on his casting and the sphere of light that usually is colored soft orange, turn gray and exploded.
It discharged with quite a bang on his palm.
Because of that discharge, Ramiel’s right palm got skinned.
Luckily no one heard him scream like a bitch.
But because of that accident that he managed to form an idea.
That would allow him to make use of that energy ‘discharge’ and make it work as point blank cannon.
So by casting a protection spell and a barrier spell on his arm, shaping it like a cannon’s barrel, Ramiel would then try to make a sphere of orange light which he would then intentionally add the world’s incompatible energy to it so it would then discharge and explode two inches away from his palm.
Allowing him to use it as an offensive spell.
