Chapter 44 –Spell Incompatible

----------------------------------------

During the last days of summer, Ramiel asked the Lady about how spells work. Lady Aubrey was occupied with writing the legions of scrolls before her. But since she was bored enough about her constant writing in this dim room. Lady Aubrey expressionlessly narrated about the way of the mana.

At first, she demonstrated how mana is conceived. Ramiel carefully listened due to how interesting magic is to him. But throughout the explanation, he found that his mana is even below to the locals. The mana in the air isn’t compatible with his body so, in other words, his body has to filter out the mana that is present everywhere.

Unlike the people of this world that have the ability to manipulate mana efficiently. Ramiel’s body is not that capable simply because his body doesn’t belong to this world.

In other words, he doesn’t have the capability to master the spells of this world. It is not because he is incapable. But simply because of the difference of a modern world human, to a human that lives in this land.

Ramiel isn’t system compatible with this world. But even so, the world at least allows him to cast a healing spell. Lady Aubrey narrated that healing spells are considered miracles. So there is a good chance that Ramiel can learn healing spells.

Ramiel felt relief about that. At least he can learn the most basic important thing someone needs in a world of fantasy. But even so, he felt rather disappointed that throwing fireballs at people or casting lighting on his hands would be impossible now.

He thought. Maybe someone who started pathetically in this world wouldn’t be that lucky to suddenly get better in the magical arts. Ramiel sighs deeply. He then listened to Lady Aubrey’s explanation on how the spell is casted.

Ramiel remembered the chant needed for the spell. He was eager to remember it, so he was able to somehow cast the spell in about fifty tries. Light glowed on his palm, and it concentrated like a sphere. Pointing the sphere at his shoulder, he felt a milky-like substance coating his shoulder.

Lady Aubrey nodded at the way he learned the spell. Other than that, Lady Aubrey also told him about to produce just light on his palms. Ramiel was eager so he learned the spell too.

The Glow spell was quite easy to cast. But even with that, Ramiel felt his stamina drained just by the constant casting. So he went to the chair that he usually sits in the lady’s room and relaxed his tired body.

The Lady ignored Ramiel and just keeps on writing as usual. She wasn’t that bothered about Ramiel’s presence. She thought of him as someone that she doesn’t have to raise a barrier against. He is a laid back, talkative man. So there was no need to be on guard. Of course, she wasn’t foolish enough not to think of Ramiel as someone who would not be attracted to her. She knew her beauty, and the look Ramiel gave to her during that one time made her wary about him.

She trusts him enough not to raise her barrier. But even so, she will defend herself when she feels threatened. And even with that in mind, Lady Aubrey would look at Ramiel, wondering what this lost wanderer had to offer to this world.

...

When Ramiel was done resting in the chair, he went out of his way. He bothered the lady too much already. So he could not allow himself to annoy the lady in the room.

I wonder if the lady ever stops writing. Every time I see her, she is always inside that room. Writing with a blank face, trying to hide that lingering pain that she feels as that black mark on her legs struggles...I guess it is her curse.

Ramiel looked at the house of the lady. Then, he turned his eyes back to the Inn. He is needed there after all.

...

Ramiel arrived at the Inn. It was busy as usual.

Felli was making dishes. Desha was serving the tables as usual. Ramiel also went to work and served the customers until the bar had lesser customers. Since it was already near fall, the customers are getting lesser.

The Galleon ships would be leaving the Town. And the people who traveled into the town of Tal would go back to their homes in preparation for the winter. Fall is an important season and is the season where people are even busier.

The Orient Inn would be most busy in the winter too. Felli, who was in the kitchen, went out and patted her pet cat. She was quite thrilled with her pet, and when Ramiel looked at her deeply, there was a bit of sadness in her eyes.

Ramiel wanted to ask but he was still unable to express himself that well. Desha looks like he knows but chooses not to get involved in Felli’s trouble. Ramiel raises a brow and decided not to get involved with Felli’s dilemma.

After helping out, Ramiel went to his room. In there, he started practicing the healing spell and cast it right. So first, he concentrated the minimal energy on his body and strung it together in his palm to form a sphere.

Ramiel then discharged the spell and started experimenting with the healing spell and the glow spell he learned. Despite the spells being easy to learn, those who teach it is rather less. And one could say that despite Ramiel being unable to learn any offensive spells on this world. Making his palm glow is enough for Ramiel to excite is mind up.
