“That’s not it. Sod and Mes have their own reasons.” Reysha muttered to herself as she walks towards the main hallway when suddenly, she felt hungry.
“Come to think of it, I woke up later than usual. Even though I dislike the idea eating food that comes from them, Teth’s food is undeniably the best in this world. Let’s see if he cooked some leftover.” She said as her feet take her towards the kitchen.
As she arrived at the kitchen, she spotted Teth and Furan. The two of them are prepping food for lunch while having a light chat.
“Oh, Miss Reysha, does the warmth the spring brought over made your sleep more comfortable?” Teth asked with a smile, something that’s natural to all of the bandits.
Though large and muscular in build, Teth has a gentle countenance and undeniably handsome looks. Furan who sits afar from Teth in a chair leaning his body on a table, waves at Reysha as a greeting.
Furan, on the other hand, is tall and lean. He has a sassy look that seemingly always seduces women. Among the bandits with Eiru as an exception, he is the only one who can use magic adeptly.
“I must admit, I did sleep well. Expensive bed seems one of the worthy of merit from all the things that Falikh bought. Anyway, Teth, is there any food left?” Reysha asked as she finds herself a sit which two chairs apart from Furan.
“Ah, sorry. Knowing Falikh, you should already know.” Teth apologized as he picks up an egg and shows it to Reysha. “Although I can set this dish aside and whip something quick for you. How about it? A simple omelet?” Teth waves the egg in which compelled Reysha to nod gently.
“As long as you cook it deliciously.” Reysha replied.
Teth then proceeded to whisk on the egg yolk and garnished it with a lot of herbs and spices. Reysha concluded that it won’t take long before Teth finishes the omelet.
“How cold, Miss Reysha. You purposely seat apart from me!~” Furan started talking to Reysha. His playful tone immediately induced Reysha’s irritation.
“I don’t want to have any connection with a man who does indecent things with older, married women.” Reysha bluntly said.
“Oh, but that’s what exciting! The thrill of immorality.” Furan exclaimed.
“A part of me wanted to deny that you are this broken but I shouldn’t deny reality.” Reysha looks at Furan with utter disgust. Furan is in the middle spectrum of adulthood so that’s why most of his actions are predictable but his taste of women is quite dangerous.
“Changing the topic, is there any significant reason why you lot are amassing a huge amount of wealth?” Reysha nonchalantly inserted another subject that surprised Furan.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“I think I am going to go around and ask the same question, after all, even if I do it discreetly, your leader got a good nose. I’d rather ask it bluntly too rather than being secretive with my action.” Reysha followed.
Furan and Teth look at each other. After a few seconds of seemingly wordless conversation, Teth returned to cooking and Furan returned his attention to Reysha.
“Haven’t you heard yet? Isn’t better if you ask leader himself? He might be able to answer the question in more detail.” Furan simply said.
“I have a feeling that all of you are going to pass me around for the whole day. Why not just answer it? In the first place, why are you guys even following Falikh?” Reysha barraged them with questions.
“It isn’t that simple, however, we got our reasons for it.” Furan said while averting his eyes.
CLANK
A plate was served in front of Reysha. The smell of seasoned omelet wafted in the air and her unsated hunger immediately craves for the food in front of her. The delicious, fluffy, and creamy omelet that even jiggles at the slight movement can induce salivation.
“Reason you ask, Miss Reysha…” Teth spoke as he pulled one chair and sat down too.
Reysha heard Teth spoke but the delicious omelet beckons her. She scoops a spoonful of the egg and immediately plops it into her mouth. The wiggly texture immediately tickles her taste buds. The explosion of spice inside her mouth made her loosen her cheeks and the creaminess left a satisfying chewiness.
“You like it? Is it delicious?” Teth asked Reysha.
“You never cease to amaze me, Teth. I wonder why this omelet is so tasty though.” Reysha singlemindedly asked as she took another scoop of the wiggly omelet and stares at it shakes.
“I want a place where I can cook for people. Truth to be told, I don’t know anything about my past.” Teth admitted to a something Reysha would never expect.
“What does that mean? Amnesia?” Reysha asked with a voice tinged with worry.
“It seems. I found myself all alone in a forest without remembering anything a few years ago. After that, an old man who owns a bar and restaurant picks me up. The old man was a great cook, the greatest I could ever imagine. Despite that, he never boasts, all his years of living, he wanted people to smile whenever they chew his dishes.” Teth told his past which seemingly lively despite not remembering a lot.
“So you aspire to be like him? How honorable and dignified.” Reysha said while she stares at the omelet. She now just realized that Teth’s every dishes are treasured memories he had with that old man. “But…what happened?” she followed.
“The old man passed away, I was left alone to take care of the bar and restaurant and I myself has grown as a cook. However, Mesola Kingdom was plunged into war. You should have heard about it, right? The war between the Beast Kingdom and the Mesola Kingdom. It didn’t take too long before the Mesola Kingdom won but, I can’t seem to open the bar again. That’s when Falikh came to me and ask me to help him.” Teth chuckled a little as he remembers some memories of the past.
“How comical in the end. That’s sounds very Falikh…” Furan muttered those words. Reysha nodded in agreement.
After that, Reysha finishes her food in peace.
Having no more clue of what the bandit's goal is, she left the kitchen after thanking Teth for the omelet.
As she left, Teth and Furan spark a conversation.
“I feel a little betrayed that I have to tell my life story but you got away from it.” Teth exclaimed as he scratches the back of his head. Furan smiled wryly.
“Hahaha! You suddenly started talking about it! I can’t help but use the opportunity to slip from Miss Reysha’s questioning.” Furan laughed happily.
“Sneaky.” Teth muttered as he continues with the food prep.
“Hey, do you really think I can just tell Miss Reysha that my wife and daughter…were…that night…” Furan words trailed off.
“You promised that you won’t talk about that.” Teth lightly scolded.
“Yeah! For the very purpose of achieving the place we long for, Leader will do his best, and so we will.” Furan said with another smile.
