Chapter 128: Inland Skirmish 8

Chapter 128: Inland Skirmish 8

The land is ashen and cuts are smeared all over the place. Ersha Einhart, with a ragged body from her fight the homunculus proven to be fruitful, however, she failed to take it down.

Amidst her failure, Ries and Mirsha, who got a full view of Ersha’s new technique are both in awe. Ersha did as much as to give the homunculus open wounds fatal for a normal human, however, it’s resilient enough to keep standing, as if nothing is wrong with its body.

“This technique, the one that I plan on using on the Black Knight, failed. I must keep sharpening my fangs, huh. This is my limit for now…” Ersha said as she tried to stand on her own using her chipped sword as a post. The crested sword is reaching its lifespan as the keen and shine that it has now faded into a murky semblance and its pure silvery steel is now pervaded with cracks.

“Was that…an enhancement magic?” Ries asked in disbelief.

“Pretty much but I won’t tell any details yet.” Ersha replied in exhaustion all the while she stumbles on her back.

“Miss Ersha!” Ries runs up to the collapsed Ersha as the homunculus started walking towards her again with mechanical movements.

“Among my daughters, Reysha was the most stubborn but now, I am compelled to rectify that decision.” Mirsha shook her head as she immediately casts a protective enhancement of Ersha.

“That said, the homunculus is rather fearsome to withstand something like an onslaught. I don’t know who’s this Black Knight Ersha has been going on for but I am certain that Ersha really did her best for that end to defeat her nemesis.” Mirsha spoke inwardly trying to assess Ersha’s growth.

Ries stood in front of the Homunculus with a raised sword and face determined to fight. She, by no means, a weakling, however, Ries can also determine if her enemy is beyond her or not and this time around, she knows that enemy is beyond her.

“Even so, I shall not falter. I am first and foremost, a knight I don’t simply abandon comrades, I don’t simply turn my eyes away from misdeeds and evil, and I am to plunge into danger when the time calls for it.” Ries immediately engaged the homunculus in another flick of swords.

She barely dodges its sweep attacks. She barely parries its slashes. And most of all she barely passes as an enemy for it. But her feet never back down even once, her grip never once loosen, and her eyes barely had any hesitation.

However, determination alone won’t allow her to win. The only way she can fight like this is because of Mirsha body enhancement on her. Without it, hacking her in half would have been a cakewalk for the foe.

And into that end, she is a human who possesses limitations whether it’s exhaustion by physical or mental.

Her exchange of blow with the homunculus in attempt to defend the fallen Ersha is now becoming a tunnel with her demise as the light at the end. She used every form and play she knows.

She twists her body and turns around with a blow backed with centrifugal force to give her a little strength to just fend off her foe’s attacks. Despite her efforts, the majority of the homunculus’ attacks are slowly chipping at her armor. It will be just a matter of time before the enemy lands a fatal blow on her ruptured armor.

And that time has arrived.

A slip of an attack from her blind spot made its way to her sternum as the homunculus slithers its aim from her failed attempt in a feint.

But before that even happen, a gust of strong magic suddenly blew the homunculus away. The wind was followed by beaming light arrows that are aimed at the homunculus.

“Fire!” From east of the Einhart Manor comes Yrsha with a battalion of soldiers with bows and arrows and blinding magic circles.

It’s the Kerias Kingdom’s most famous rain of light arrows, a barrage of bullet-like attacks that can pulverize a city and turn it into a gigantic spread of cheese without abandon that even Reysha herself fears.

The battalion that Yrsha brought fired off the magic enchanted arrows and it soars through the sky like a paramount of sky dwells into the horizon.

Ries who is witnessing the spectacle can only sigh in relief because first, she escaped death narrowly and now they are saved by the forces of this kingdom. Second is that she is thankful once more that the war months and months ago didn’t actually happen.

The homunculus’ movement was immediately restricted and so, the arrows barraged it mercilessly. The flash of arrows pierced its body without resistance and considering its numbers, the homunculus’ survival is close to none.

And so, the first foe perish.

“Prepare for the second barrage! The target is the homunculus that my father is engaging.” Yrsha issued an order and the knight-mages prepared another circle of light to enhance the arrow, however…

“Stop, this is an order!” Ersha’s voice rang out while she stands with her sword as a cane as it broke in half.

“Miss Ersha, why?!” Ries immediately uttered in confusion.

“Miss D’Levierre, you are truly worth your title, the beacon of hope. While I’m at it, I shall call you a saint. You truly stood up for the weak and the poor despite everything.” Ersha said as she gently rubs Ries’ head.

“I’m not worthy of such! Wait, no, that’s not it! Your esteemed father, Miss Ersha!” Ries immediately points at Seran Einhart, however, Ersha only returned a grin.

“I can go all out now, Mirsha! Hand me that!” Seran’s voice rang out in joy as he kicked that homunculus he is fighting with and leaps to where Mirsha is.

“Let my father have his way with this one. Also, Yrsha doesn’t know that the mages have their limitations so successive barrage is impossible. In exchange, you shall witness a legend, the man called Seran the Starlight.” Ersha said with a smile showing her pure anticipation.

Ries stood up in anticipation as she heard a familiar legendary name, Seran the Starlight…

Mirsha drew out something from her dimensional storage and handed it to Seran. What Seran holds now is a bow. It is a majestic and ornate bow with a gleam of mixed pale blue and silver with a little glow of seven colors of the rainbow.

“Mithril…” Ries muttered upon the sight of the bow, however, it wasn’t the only thing that made her gapes her mouth.

The said bow is as tall as Ries herself and from how the bowstring gleam, she became aware that she can never ever pull it even an inch.

“It’s a bow that sacrifices all of the user’s magical energy. Mithril is the best conductor of magic. By doing so, the only playing factor here is the raw strength of the user.” Yrsha voiced out as she stood beside Ersha.

The homunculus immediately rebound from Seran’s earlier attack and started charging at him again. This time, Mirsha engages that it and tried to restrict its movement but to her surprise…

“It dodged?! It’s still learning?!” Mirsha shouted as the magical chain that shot up from the ground was evaded. Its fast movement was too much for Mirsha to cope up so Seran tried to intercept it once more.

But the homunculus immediately halted once more…

A metallic chain immediately sprang up somewhere. It was fast and precise that the homunculus had no way of knowing how it will catch it. From the shadow of the boulder, a figure soars into the air holding the chain.

It was Spoof who is wearing his formal attire he used in the party earlier.

As the chains entangles the homunculus, he slammed it to the ground and following that, a large chunk of ice suddenly rises from the ground that further held the homunculus.

This time, Eiru reveals himself and presses on the foes with his ice magic.

However, the homunculus’ strength proved to be overwhelming and started dismantling the chain and breaking that ice, however, it was just the right time for Mirsha to cast her magic again.

“You won’t get away now!” Mirsha shouted as sealing chains now bound that homunculus.

Be as it may, but the homunculus is stubborn enough that it can still struggle despite all of the obstruction.

CREAK

Ries’ head immediately went towards Seran and saw a scenery akin to a legend or more precisely, it is a legend himself.

The bow was fully drawn and the arrow that he holds on his grasps is nothing but an ephemeral power drained from his body. The air around him reverberates in intensity and gust of wind started howling all the while the faint light of energy kept swirling right into the arrowhead.

“Thus, Seran the Starlight…” Ries pushed those words from her lips in amazement.

The light arrow that the Kerias Kingdom is proud of is actually based on this one sole man. Seran Einhart releases the arrow of light and a surge of power zooms.

Like a railgun, the homunculus was blown towards the sky in a blink of an eye all the while the arrow drags it into the night sky. The shot was so quick and so lethal that one would think that the spectacle shown earlier was a dream.

In the next moment, the arrow reaches the atmosphere and explodes. It created myriads of bits in the sky that it looks like the stars are dancing with camaraderie together with the moon.

Starlight doesn’t refer to how strong Seran is but how beautiful this attack was. Ries realized that.

“That’s done. I would love it if my precious Reysha could see this.” Seran said as he took Mirsha in his cradle as the esteemed wife of his is quite exhausted.

The battle was spectacularly settled.

Seran was able to let off some steam and Ersha learned something from this battle. Ries was able to witness a lot and hardened herself to become stronger and Yrsha was able to see Spoof safely.

The reinforcement proved to be the most useful aspect of the battle as it didn’t let the battle drag.

BOOM!

However, within everyone’s earshot, a loud sound of an explosion echoed throughout the place.

“Wait…look at that.” Yrsha pointed at a certain direction and everyone in the place noticed it.

“Hmm? A…cloud of dust? It looks like a mushroom.” Seran said with a faint laugh.

Everyone wasn’t aware of it but, in the next moment, they found themselves getting blown away by the sheer power and the magnitude of the force that came to their faces.
