RING
Ivy’s phone rang that gathered everyone’s attention, especially Meriyal who is sitting in front of her. Beside Meriyal is Ries who is also staring at the phone, however, it was not a stare of curiosity anymore but a stare of tiredness.
“How many time does it make it now…?” Ivy muttered as she picks up the call. Like Ries and Meriyal, she also has eyes sick of it.
“This is the fifteenth times now…” Ries answered.
Upon confirming, Ivy made a deep sigh and put her ears beside the phone’s speaker.
“Ivy here…” She said with a monotonous voice.
“Hey, hey! How far do you think we are with each other?! Can you still hear my voice?!” Asked by the one on the other line of the phone, Aspara. Her tone is mixed with excitement and pure joy.
“Yes, Miss Aspara. May I ask of you to refrain from calling every twenty minutes? It’s a little overbearing…” Ivy kindly asked with a frigid smile.
“My apologies but…I really can’t help it! This is a really amazing device! Well, I’ll put it down now!” Aspara said as she cut off the call.
It was nothing sort of bizarre but Ivy, Meriyal, and Ries felt that Aspara is somewhat frolicked of her new device, or rather, a thing she could fiddle with if given a signal.
“What a child. She should act more of her age rather than being roused by a simple device. Anyway, Demon Lord Ivy, there are a lot of things I want to ask.” Meriyal proceeded that talk as she calmly stares at Ivy.
“So you say, won’t it just be a matter of our very own economic trade? I can give you all the details regarding the fare together with our written contract.” Ivy exclaimed.
“No, this has nothing in relation to it. I want to know about some knowledge that maybe only you could answer.” Meriyal replied that made Ries glances at her twice.
“What could you desire to know?” Perhaps her interest is piqued but Ivy made a creviced brow and leans closer to Meriyal.
“What are…gods?” Meriyal asked with a serious countenance.
Ivy realized that she should not answer the question foolishly. She knows that in this land, faith is deep but knowledge about the divines is shallow. She doesn't want to make any careless remark but she also wanted to answer everything from a standpoint of someone equal.
“Princess Meriyal, how deep do you revere the Gods?” Ivy asked to test the water.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“I see you considered such thing too. Worry not as I am a devout believer but at the same time, I am not narrowminded not to bend my knowledge to a more appropriate belief.” Meriyal assured.
Ivy let out a shallow sigh of relief upon hearing Meriyal’s answer. She sees Meriyal as an acquaintance and she hopes to have a deeper friendship with her in the future. She doesn’t want to stop as trading partners.
“In that case, Princess Meriyal, do you know about the meta-concept of alternate universe?” Ivy initiated the topic.
“That’s something new to me. Please further elaborate.” Meriyal’s eyes glitter with deep interest as she heard a new word.
“This world is tied to a myriad of other worlds. In fact, this dimension is just a grain in a dessert. We may have come from a single root of a tree but as a different act at a single moment diverts, a new path is made and a new possibility is opened.” Ivy explained while trying to find the appropriate words to explain it.
“I am not sure if I am following it correctly. In short, this time, this place, this moment, is diverging to many paths?” Meriyal affirmed.
“Not quite. You could say that our time right now is steady and flowing. I mean, in another world, we might not be talking peacefully like this.” Ivy followed up another explanation.
“That is a little hard to understand if we don’t have any prior knowledge about it. I can break down the information later. How does multiple existences of worlds relate to Gods?” Meriyal prompted the continuation of the topic about gods.
“Gods are omnipotent, omnipresence, and omniscience. A god that hold so much power can exist outside the limits of time and can live without restriction in life. However, they do not interfere with mortals such as us. Special cases are made but they just usually don’t.” Ivy explained with a strain in her eyes.
“It’s only a theory of my aunt but, gods may exist in multiple words at the same time. It is also said that they can stay in one world if they like to. Gods that exist in multiple worlds may have a different identity, different legend and stories, and different names. That’s why we can’t give them a definite explanation.” Ivy concluded.
“There are also cases where a mortal may ascend to godhood and the same could happen to the gods. There’s a story in our land where a girl that is in the boundary of a mortal and divines slew a full pledge God. And by that, I mean the god that was slain is Eresti.” Ivy said with a serious countenance.
From Ivy’s explanation, Meriyal and Ries showed a flabbergasted expression.
“Are you…certain about what you said? That Lord Eresti is dead?” Ries asked the question with a bewildered face.
Ries stared at Ivy intently together with Meriyal. They look at her like she just said something unbelievable. Most of the small sect and churches has several gods and goddesses that they revere, however, the biggest religion is fixated on God Eresti.
Like swallowing her words, Ivy looks at them in the eyes and said…
“I am certain that he is dead.” She said with a strained voice but a serious tone.
Meanwhile, Falikh, Reysha, and Victoria gathers in the guest room of Mousseux, however, there was no joyous or festive mood. The atmosphere reeks with heaviness that could be felt pressing on their shoulders.
Reysha was showing a face of bewilderment and pure shock. Victoria could only make a knitted eyebrows, and in front of the two, Falikh, is only making a default blank face.
“You…what did you just said? Your mother’s goal is…?!” Reysha asked with face unable to believe what she just heard.
“No mistaking it. The reason she was gathering faith and amassing divine power is for that sake…” Victoria nodded in affirmation.
“Yeah…it is just what I said. I was once a talented magic user too. My mother ripped out my magic nodes and replaced it with Divine Lining for that sole purpose.” Falikh said with dim eyes.
Silence looms over as Falikh made another sigh and continues…
“By using the Divine Lining inside my body, she wants to use me as a vessel for the revival of her god, Lord Eresti.”
