“Hey, Dick, riding the carriage like you are some noble while we drive it, huh? Do you feel a little better about yourself?” Sod coquettishly asked Reld inside the carriage as they follow the trail of Meriyal’s carriage.
“I am not like some noble, I am noble!” Reld replied with twitching cheek while he fixes his foggy glasses.
“You WERE a noble, a lower one to boot.” Mes added a sour lemon to the wound that made Reld grit his teeth in vexation.
“Argh! Enough of my life falling from nobility! Tell me Miss Aspara’s instruction so I can act accordingly! Reld shouted with bloodshot eyes from being made fun of by the twins. Since they are following Princess Meriyal’s carriage, someone should be inside the carriage and Reld is the one chosen.
“Oh, that’s! Yeah…What was it again Mes?” Sod asked Mes beside him with a confused face.
“Ahhh! Yeah…that, right? It’s…holy cow…what…was it again?” Mes replied with a dumb and infuriating face.
Reld’s face flares in red and if someone is actually looking at him, it feels like his veins in his neck will pop from anger. To still the boiling anger inside him, Reld breathes in and out to calm his self.
“That’s a joke, a joke! Ahahaha! Dick, you are really a gullible guy! You think that we, Sod and Mes could forget information?” Sod said with a mocking tone accompanied with a laugh.
“We are people who specialize in causing trouble with misinformation. We have a sharper memory than your usual scum.” Mes added with confidence.
Sod and Mes are telling the truth. The two of them has an excellent memory to the point they can retell events vividly that happened five years ago. One could say that these two are annoying imps that can be a big or small bother to someone’s life.
And all more to it, the two love information and willing to listen to one, even if it is a lie or from a gossip…
“Just…tell me… and be over with.” Reld said tiredly as he leans his head to the seat of the carriage while massaging the bridge of his nose.
“Miss Aspara said that Princess Meriyal’s assassin could be a student from the Kerias Capital Magic Academy. The tracking magic that was used can only be taught by a woman named Yrsha Einhart.” Sod explained the first and foremost basic outline.
“She said that it may also have been sent from her own Princess Meriyal’s own kingdom in spite of her, however, since Miss Lala had the tracking magic and she just recently moved out of the Kerias Capital Magic Academy due to circumstances, the odds that a student from the Kerias Capital Academy might be the culprit,” Mes added with details.
From what Reld heard from Sod and Mes, he got himself thinking of what and why. Crossing his arms and delving deep into his thoughts, Reld started thinking why would anyone want Princess Meriyal dead, after all, he is also a former citizen of Breille Kingdom.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“She’s haughty…she’s very prideful…she often looks down on people…and most of all…she always make that annoying smug face…” Reld tried to think of some possibilities that one would aim for Princess Meriyal’s life…however…”That wench kind of deserve this…” he admitted.
“Hey, hey, Dick! That’s kind of dark whatever you say! Can’t let such beauty to die you know!” Sod shouted from outside.
“Shut up! I am not serious about that! Anyway, hearing those from the two of you, this plan could only be executed more than a year. It means that someone from the Breille Kingdom enrolled together with Miss Lala and learned from this Yrsha woman. With that train of thought, we could say that Miss Lala was been spied for her entirety of studying in Kerias Capital Magic Academy.” Reld said with a little worry and bit frantic of the situation.
“Then, won’t that crosses out any possibilities of Princess Meriyal’s assassination and direct that to Miss Lala since she was the one spied?” Mes asked Reld as the notion could also be a possibility.
“That won’t do Mes. If you think years of planning just to take down Miss Lala, a knight of the Princess, then it won’t make any sense. They could have just targeted her when she was in Kerias territory and worse, could pin the blame on them, however, that was not the case.” Sod countered Mes question.
“It is as Sod said, there’s no point waiting for years to assassinate Miss Lala. Princess Meriyal has been stuck in her own kingdom for years, deeply delve into agricultural research. It is safe to say that the culprit behind this scheme can’t do anything to Princess Meriyal because she is in her own territory.” Reld added information for the culprit’s motive.
“I see. Then, most likely, an attempt on her life could happen now where she is far away from the Breille Kingdom and guarded by limited people. This is the perfect chance for an assassination.” Mes said as he was able to connect the dots.
“Then…what’s the purpose of the tracker?” Sod inserted a new question.
“Indeed, why did they have to put a tracker on Miss Lala if they are targeting Princess Meriyal?” Reld tilted his head idiotically of that unsolved notion.
“Un…even without the tracker, they can observe Princess Meriyal or Miss Lala with spies…or else…nah…not a good one…” Mes was about to say something when he dismissed it.
“Hey…what are you about to say? Anything could help now…” Reld pushes Mes further to say something.
“Mes, are you thinking what I’m thinking? It is also a possibility…” Sod backed Mes’ assumption with their align thinking.
“Well, listen Dick. What if…the culprit…is actually alone? No allies, no one to rely on, just alone. She goes to the same Academy as Miss Lala and put a tracker on her to track down Princess Meriyal too if they ever leave The Breille Kingdom’s perimeter.” Mes said with timidity.
“…I guess if that someone is powerful enough to do all of this. Anyway, I think we won’t get anywhere with this discussion. I still have a question you guys haven’t answered yet.” Reld said as he shifted the topic to the most pressing one.
“Ah, like what Miss Aspara said, if ever we encounter any danger, especially to Princess Meriyal’s life, we should immediately escape or if we have the opportunity, find her.” Sod relayed why Aspara told them to do.
“Hmph, simple but reliable, that’s fine. Then we should continue as it is right now, follows them from behind. We got their permission…if we can call that. In the meantime too, you tw--!” Before Reld could finish his sentence, something loud rang throughout the city.
DONG!
“Ah…here it is…Guidance.” Sod muttered as he closes his eyes. Mes also did the same thing.
“Guidance, what is that?” Reld questioned the twins and observe his surrounding when suddenly… “Argh…this is…” Not a headache, but lightheadedness broods over his head.
The carriage in front where Princess Meriyal rides also stops as Guidance took effect. Lala and Ries who are riding horses alongside the carriage also felt the lightheadedness.
And, at that very moment, getting past their vulnerability, an arrow took off and hit Lala and Ries…
