Chapter 311

Chapter 311

Mark couldn’t have imagined that the lazy feeling that he was experiencing earlier was a result of a sinister curse from a mage. He always thought that if somebody attacked him because of his things it would be a face-to-face attack, not some magic cast from afar. Then he focused on what Mentorra said about the attacker.

“You killed the mage? Isn’t that a bit severe of a punishment?”

“We tried to capture him so we could send him to the local government to be tried and judged but he fought us with all of his power fully intending to kill so we killed him. With the behavior that he was exhibiting, I’m quite sure that he was mad,” Mentorra said.

“Can I see the body? Maybe I will recognize him or something.”

They all went to the city hall where the body was relocated. When they arrived there, Mark saw a lot of guards swarming all over the place and Keder was already there with his cronies waiting for them.

“Sir Mark, you’re here. We’ve been expecting you since Hamil told us that you would be interested in seeing the corpse,” Keder said while shaking his hands.

Mark noticed a little girl about three years old beside a guard behind Keder, the village chief. He noticed the girl since the girl’s hair was long and its color was a brilliant silver that was almost glittering in the light and her eyes were large with different colors. One was golden and the other was purple.

“Who is that anime-looking little girl?” Mark asked.

The people from the circus all smiled when they heard Mark’s description of the girl since they were aware of what he meant when he described the girl as anime-looking since they had seen a few animated movies but Keder had a questioning look on his face.

Eilintraee was the one who answered.

“The little girl was sitting in the corner of the mage’s room when we tried talking to him. We were just glad that the girl didn’t get hit by stray magic when the battle started. We thought that she was the mage’s relative or something but when the mage died, she didn’t react and kept sitting in the corner of the room. We’re thinking that the little girl was some sort of captive by that dark mage.”

Mark nodded then they all went to the room where the corpse was located. He examined the dead mage carefully but he didn’t recognize the man and he told everyone so. When they went outside, the little girl was still waiting beside the guard with Keder.

“What will happen to the little girl?” He asked the village chief.

“Normally some kindhearted woman from the village would take her in if a village doesn’t have an orphanage but due to how she looked the villagers thought that she could be cursed. We will hire an adventurer to bring her to an orphanage in the city.”

“There’s a good chance that she may not reach the city. The road is very dangerous especially if a lone adventurer is traveling carrying a burden like that child and if the adventurer is particularly sinister, he may even kill her and then report that the girl was attacked by a wild animal or already in an orphanage.” Solinae said and since the others didn’t dispute it that meant that she was correct.

Mark gasped when he heard what could happen to the girl.

“I’ll take her in! I’m already taking care of the twins and a little sister is not going to be a burden,” He volunteered.

“Are you not wary of what the villagers were saying that she’s cursed or something because of the way she looked,” Hamil asked while smiling.

“It’s just some silly superstition, besides, you would have told me if there’s really something wrong with her,” Mark snorted.

The three elven sisters laughed when they heard what Mark had said and he saw that the other’s reaction looked like they were expecting him to react as he did.

“Were you expecting me to take in the child?” He asked everyone.

Everyone nodded and Hamil said to him that the circus would have taken in the child anyway since it’s been tradition that those who were outcast would be taken in.

“Do you still want to take in the girl or you can let us handle it?” Hamil asked.

“I’ll take in the girl and I’m sure Milena will be able to handle additional kid in the house.”

Mark asked Keder if they would allow him to take the girl and the village chief nodded. He then conjured a couple of colorful and big lollypops. He unwrapped the first one and began eating it while exclaiming exaggeratedly that it was so sweet and delicious.

“Hey, little princess. Do you see this lollypop? It’s so delicious do you want to have one?” Mark then unwrapped the second lollypop while feeling like a villain in a third-rate movie.

The little girl nodded so he gave the lollypop to the girl then she began licking it.

“Is it okay to allow her to eat candy? She hadn’t eaten yet since she was not accepting anything we gave her,” The guard looking after the child said.

Mark heard Norunta telling the guard they must first capture the child’s interest. They would handle the child’s nutrition so he didn’t need to worry about the girl.

“Is it delicious?” Mark asked the girl and the girl nodded.

“What’s your name little fairy?” he asked the girl and the girl just stared at him while licking the lollypop.

“Do you want to come with me? You can eat delicious food if you stay with me and I have a lot more lollypops.”

The girl nodded so Mark picked up the girl. He was glad that the girl didn’t show any issue when he picked her up.

Once they were outside the village hall, Mark wanted to entertain the girl so he summoned a Space Floating Disc and then conjured soft couches on top of it. He sat on the couch, putting the girl beside him then the others followed him and sat on the second couch that he conjured.

Mark commanded the Space Floating Disc to float to its maximum height and then moved the disc forward as fast as a man could walk. All the people in the surroundings were looking at them and they just ignored it.

When Mark checked the lollypop that the girl was eating, he was shocked to see that it was almost gone. After a while, the girl finished the lollypop and then slept beside him. Mark was sad to see that the little girl was hungry and tired and vowed that he would make her as lively as the twins.

When they arrived in the circus, Hamil and the others went on their way and Mark carried the girl inside the RV but then the girl woke up.

“Hi, little muffin. This is going to be your new home,” Mark said to the little girl.

When they entered the RV, Mark saw that it was empty since the twins were probably still playing outside and he didn’t know where Milena was. He brought the girl to the bathroom and washed her. Then he dressed her up in what of the twin’s clothes. He then wondered what to feed the girl so he thought of one of his favorite comfort foods from his mother’s country which was Champorado.

Mark replicated the chocolate rice porridge and then drowned it in milk just like what he always wanted his Champorado would be. He replicated two bowls and put them on the table. He sat the girl on the table then put the bowl beside her and he started eating his bowl of porridge. When the little girl saw that Mark was eating his Champorado saying that it was delicious while wearing an exaggerated expression, the girl looked at her bowl and started eating as well.
